No seifuku thread up? Now there is!

Selfposts, magazine scans, hauls and questions all okay. Idol inspo (uniform inspired stage costumes) are alright.

Some discussion questions to start us off:

> What type of legwear do you like with your uniform?
> Are you a student? When do you wear this style and why?
> Have you worn a uniform in the past? Why do you like nanchatte/kogal/etc?

Anybody got any verticals striped blazer coord pics? I've been hitting jackpot at thrift stores and found a great fitting medium gray blazer with lighter gray stripes about an inch apart, but I can't shake the old school gangster look from it. > it's almost summer! What are your warm weather days tips and tricks?
100% cotton blouses.

> What type of legwear do you like with your uniform?
Short white socks, mostly, since they are cute with athletic shoes.

> Are you a student? When do you wear this style and why?
1. No
2. I wear it as casual daywear, especially if I'm going somewhere fun with my bf.

> Have you worn a uniform in the past? Why do you like nanchatte/kogal/etc?
1. No
2. It's flattering, classy, and feminine while somehow still being casual enough to wear regularly. And it's subdued enough that I don't feel bad for wearing the same outfit often.

> What's your favorite item that you own? Favorite item that you don't own?
1. It's a tie between my super-convenient schoolbag and my favorite skirt which reminds me of the blue interior of my bf's old corolla.
2. Pic related, I want an oversized version of this hoodie to wear on cool nights instead of a cardigan this summer.

Silk bra-camisoles under blouses to catch sweat while being breathable.
> What type of legwear do you like with your uniform?
OTKs. I like knitted tights too.
> Are you a student? When do you wear this style and why?
I am a student, and I just wear it casually. Just because it's cute and sweet.
> Have you worn a uniform in the past? Why do you like nanchatte/kogal/etc?
Nope. I just like plaids a lot, as well as pleated skirts.
> What's your favorite item that you own? Favorite item that you don't own?
A pink/grey plaid skirt just because I love the pattern.

Anon, please do yourself a favor and buy a longer skirt. The one you have is doing your body no favors and that makes me sad.

There are a lot of longer skirts for cheap on Yahoo Japan since many schools have modest cuts. Search チェックスカート ("chekku skirt") to specifically find plaid ones.

>> No.9444113

>>9444110
I do have some longer ones but I think it's the fit of this one that's the issue. It's one of those tennis skirt designs so it's pretty form fitting until the pleats. Sad though because I thought it was so cute but I'm self-conscious about too-short stuff so me tugging it down didn't do me any favors, I know.

You think if I tugged it up where it's supposed to be it'll look better or is it the style that's the issue?

>> No.9444168

>>9444113
Whether the pleats are sewn down or not, the issue is that skirts like this are designed to sit on your natural waist. They are tailored to draw the eye in onto the smallest part of you. But by wearing it lower, your natural waist is concealed by the shirt bagging around it and the skirt itself minimizes/conceals your hips.

It would look better tugged up to where it's supposed to be from the perspective above, but then you have the issue of it being really short, which creates a different problem. I think the length it's hitting your legs at right now is flattering, you just need to find one that hits you there while sitting at your natural waist.

Eh, don't worry about it. I buy bigger sized skirts all the time that hang on my hips for the sake of modesty and most of the time you can't tell if you wear a cardigan or vest over it. The skirt in this one is at my hips and you can't tell but it'd be different if I hadn't added the vest over it.

is one and it was really nice quality with heavy fabric and the pattern was woven in. I don't think I've seen any of their skirts that just have the pattern on top because when you flip the skirts inside out the pattern is still there. Thickness is the variable though depending on which skirt you get. Some are thick and hold pleats well while others are super thin and costumey.

I stick to bows for neckwear because tying ties is a pain and I haven't gotten the hang of those cord bows yet.

I have always loved the look of seifuku. I blame watching Sailor Moon when I was a little kid. I would never feel comfortable wearing one, even if it was a real, nice uniform. But they look so damn cute. I have no idea what it even is that appeals to me so much. I always loved seeing retro pictures of ladies in sailor uniform dresses too, so maybe I just have a thing for naval themed clothing.

>>9464250
Good to know that covering the waistband helps. I know the look is a lot sharper and neater with the blouse tucked in, but maybe wearing it untucked would hide the low waist as well then? I know I've seen a few pictures of girls with their blouses untucked before.

I'm like 80% sure that the sets that come with blouses where the skirts are super short are thin and flimsy as they look like shit in photographs. Does anyone knows a webshop that sells skirts that are just a little bit longer than the standard onces on Aliexpress?
I'm quite tall and those skirts hardly cover my butt. So I've been looking for short skirts that are just a little bit longer.

Good to know the fabric is truly sturdy. Like I said, I know people said they were wearable, but nobody ever mentions the actual quality of the fabric. I'm torn between which one I like best. There's a couple that are pretty cute.

I was hoping I could wait for Bodyline to either have a sale or do a shipping promotion to order a few things, but it seems like everything I wanted is now sold out. They still have the pleated skirts I like, but I'm nervous that Bodyline is either going to sell out of those too or just finally shut down before they have another promotion. It really looks like they are done with Lolita and probably also done selling to the overseas market.

Pic is Kyary in nanchatte. I love her outfits so much.

Hi everyone, I'm a complete newbie to this look, so please excuse what are probably very basic questions.

I'm in Japan currently and only recently got into this style, but I have no idea where to start on buying my own outfit for it. I saw what looked to be the makings of an entire outfit at Don Quixote, but each piece was around $30 each. Is that a reasonable price? I'm also unsure if DQ's quality would hold up well or not. Does anyone have any experience with their skirts/sweaters/etc? Should I try looking somewhere else? If so, then where? I would appreciate any recommendations you might have!

I'm also interested in the sailor fuku look, but the only place I know to find those is Bodyline. I've heard mixed reviews on those, however.

Sorry again for very simple questions... I honestly haven't the slightest idea where to begin though.

I'd look where girls actually get their uniforms. For Bodyline since you're in Japan you can go to the shops and see the quality for yourself before you buy so I'd definitely go there just to see if you find any bargains.

>>9467780
My recommendations are to check out bodyline, ar conomi and any second-hand shops you can find.

Conomi is more on the expensive side because they're closer to real school uniform. Bodyline's physical store has good finds imo, lots of nice vest, blouses and cheap bows/ties. The seifuku are a bit costume-y though. DQ is popular for their nanchatte pieces and they seem pretty decent.

I'm not 100% on the location anymore, but there's a second-hand cosplay shop in akiba on the backstreet near one of the SEGA buildings that had some decent seifuku. It's called mitsubado!

I think it can look really cute as long as it looks purposeful. Here, the same colors means that it just looks off. An example of socks-over-tights done right would be those fake thigh-high tights where the top is sheer and the "thigh highs" are opaque. I can't find any nanchatte examples but I think it'd work really well for the look.

I've been in Japan since the end of April and haven't browsed cgl since leaving, but I went to Conomi in Harajuku and bought a cardigan. Stupid little dream come true.
Back then it was right before Golden Week and I saw a shitton of school uniformed girls in shopping areas. Could they have been nanchatte? It was before school let out and they looked really cute, likely too cute for school. But yeah there was a shitton. Way more than I expected. I looked like shit compared to them lol closer hip to waist ratio and stick legs just look so much better in this fashion.

Baggier cardi and probably shoes with a bit of a smaller heel, as your are giving me jfash vibes that are on the sexier side (I really can't think of a better word. sorry.) As a guy, are there any good references for this style to go off of? The one boy I've seen in this thread (>>9466924) looks a lot like he's just wearing girls' style but with pants, and looks latently gay as a result. It might be the hair, pose, and the filter, but it's also definitely the fact that his sweater's too long in the sleeve

Outside of the delinquent looks, no. They're not really that fashionable when it comes to actual students hanging out after school. I can't remember what documentary it was but one show did a little thing on schoolgirl fashion and one girl wasn't even allowed to wear makeup and had strict dress code so she packed an entire new set of uniform in her bag to change into after school. That's probably what gakuran girls do because the 'western' uniforms seem to be a lot more popular.
