Don't see a lot of mori kei on this board, what's the general consensus? It's something I'm getting into as I try to move away from cosplaying and want to have more special coords for conventions but I don't think it's as popular as it used to be.

Having just really started to dig into the mori style myself it seems popular - just a less vocal or organized community compared to Lolitas. There doesn't seem to be much by way of local communities with events just for mori girls.

Most the mori people must be too busy sketching in the woods to fuss with being online. :p

(Pic related kind of. I love old hairstyles with mori)

There used to be active mori threads some time ago, but now the fashion seems to be dead together with the discussion of it.

There are still some mori comms on facebook but most are not very active. I think in general those who wear it are more inclined to solitary hobbies and don't seek out big community events like lolitas. Which I kinda dislike because it makes finding new inspo and coordination advice trickier.

Does anybody have a good guide to mori acceptable hair products? I've been trying the baking soda and apple cider vinegar shampoo routine, and it's working good as a base but I'd like to add more. I've seen people recommend Honey and Lemon to add to the vinegar, using some carrier oils like jojoba and Argan as moisturizer, salt and glycerin for volume, as well as many other things that seemed ridiculous. Anybody got a reliable source or actual experience?

The honey for me has a weird effect that I can't fully explain. I guess I'd call it structure, it gives my hair more structure, makes it wavier and stand up a bit more.

I'm a guy, but here's what I have been using on myself and on a friend of mine who I am a caretaker for for years - we both love it, it's gentle on the hair and cost-effective.

shampoo: mason jar filled half way with raw honey (we use nature nate) and halfway with liquid castile soap (unscented dr. bronner's). Incredible lather. You can scent it with essential oils, or you can use a scented dr. bronner soap (or make your own soap - I make my own liquid castile soap now but we're trying to use up the leftover before we try using my soap on hair and not just on the body).

This soap is alkali, so you have to use something a little acidic as a 'conditioner' to smooth your hair out again. Here's what we use:

2 cups of distilled water, bring it to a simmer, remove from heat and add 1.25 teaspoons of citric acid and 4 bags of chamomile tea. Let steep for 30 minutes. When it's cooled completely, add .25 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin and .25 teaspoon of vitamin e oil (optional). Add essential oil for scent: we do 20 drops of orange, 10 of ylang ylang. Put in a spray bottle and spritz wet, shampooed hair. Leave in for a few minutes and dry as normal.

Seems like most blogs stopped updating around 2012 or 2013 so it's been quiet for a while now. Wonder Rocket switched out from having mori to larme(?) or whatever back in 2014 or so too, cawaii moved onto otona in the last two years and favorite's been sort of holding the torch but has had otona creep in as well.

Mentioning those brands in particular because they were the cheapest points of entry aside from thrifting to get a mori-styled outfit together very quickly.

Even the taobao brands seem to have stalled as a result of the shift in the japanese brands since things like slxi were basically factory direct sellers of the things that favorite and cawaii would put out.

I don't think there are any mori exclusive brands anymore now, so it has become more difficult to generate new inspo as you mentioned. Pretty sure people are still wearing it, they're probably just not the type to take outfit shots or post them since there's no supporting community/brand/media system like lolita has.

What do you guys think about this sort of fairy-tale-oppulent style with Mori? Mori tends to fall more simple...but I love the idea of details and pieces growing with wear as you find a new bit of lace or have an hour to do some extra embroidery...
