i cycle through my clothes depending on the season, so during spring/summer my winter clothes go into vacuum bags underneath my bed, and vice versa. i've recently had a giant cull of my entire wardrobe which has been very helpful! you just have to be ruthless when you're short on space, it's hard but it's necessary. I keep my knit wear folded in a big, vintage looking box which also serves as my bedside table.

my uni things live in my backpack which stays next to my desk. i have a small shelf for my textbooks, but luckily most of my resources are online. cute pen/pencil cups are always nice as decor though.

my teapot collection lives on my kitchen window sill and then i use them for storage for little things like spare keys, spare change, screws etc.

>>9411253

Enormous clean-out and condensing of paper work after each semester. Coursework gets bound together, textbooks are either online or on the bookshelf and anything else stays in my bag

I do this too, anon. Under bed storage is best for small spaces, and Konmari is great for getting rid of useless crap cramping your style.

My dilemma is that I like my room to be in bright colours, white, light wood, pastel, flower prints, but most of my wardrobe and lolita stuff is rather dark, not punk or OTT gothic, but black, navy, jewel colors, grey and some muted pastels (mauve and old rose). I also like to display coords under construction on my dress form. Any inspo for rooms like that?

I desperately need organizing solutions to stuffies.
I want to get one of those corner hammock things but they all seem to hang kind of low? I want to put mine up and away near the ceiling and not have it droop down too low

something like pic related wouldnt really work for me because the stuffies Im trying to organize are way too big to be placed on a shelf.

Similar to >>9411264, although I only cycle a handful of obviously off-season items out into storage and tend to keep the rest in rotation and just adjust how many layers I'm wearing. I'd also add that I have a really terrible tendency to forget what I own, so I've started doing a personal wardrobe post/list of my normie clothes (works better if you have a smaller wardrobe - my normie wardrobe was a capsule collection with only 30 items a couple of years ago, and it still hasn't grown beyond 60 or so). Otherwise I end up kicking myself because anything that's not stored in the couple of drawers I use every day gets forgotten about even if it's useful and versatile (I went out without a jacket the other day because I thought I didn't have any that matched my outfit that day, even though I actually did). I looked into wardrobe organising apps but all the non-iOS options were pretty shit so I ended up doing it manually.

For that price you might as well get a new or second-hand wardrobe, it's really not good to store your stuff out in the open. The tops of your dresses will get dusty, and so will your bags/shoes (which are at least easy to clean), never mind the potential sun fading issues.

If you're using it to just lay out your clothes for the week ahead and are regularly swapping out what's on it I don't see the harm, but long-term storage on an exposed rail is a bad move IMO. I have a £6.50 rail from IKEA I was using for wardrobe overspill and I'm amazed at how well it's held up (6 months so far with like 15 dresses and 5 blouses on it) - they have a £30-something one but when I saw it instore it actually seemed weaker and wobblier?

At first glance I thought it was a mirror reflecting back the bed, but if you look the "bed" seems to be sitting on top of the dresses....so is the "mirror" a hole in the wall with a little sleeping nook?

But then compare the bed size to the size of the tsum tsums....that would have to be one seriously tiny bed...

Oh wow, this room has a lot of potential! I would suggest some light sweepy curtains, like tulle or thin cotton, and then you can take so many routes, like, maybe hanging fabric on the walls, kinda like fabric canopies? Or you could go for white framed pictures. I have that same TV stand but in black, and we have plain black frames in our living room, but I think solid white but more ornate frames could change the feeling of the space a lot.

You could also organise your books, if you don't need them alphabetically you can sort by colour and lenght, it always looks really stylish, and put up decorations there, like plushies and stuff.

I'm moving into a new, hopefully semi-permanent apartment soon. I was thinking of instead of painting the bedroom and living room walls, hanging up colored tulle instead?

It looks really cute, and it would be so much easier when I do eventually decide to move (plus might be able to reuse it). I want my apartment to feel really whimsical, and figured this might be a cost effective way to do it.

Good idea? Bad idea?

Well, if you use candles, too. Theoretically, if a candle tipped over or caught fire, having fabric all around the room would spread the fire faster.

That being said though, tulle tends to just melt when heated anyway, not burn, so I think it's fine.

I'm thinking of buying Marie Kondo's Konmari books. I feel very at peace when things are clean and tidy at my apartment, so I think they will be a very good investment for me.

Has anyone else gone through the konmari method? What are your thoughts or experiences?

>Has anyone else gone through the konmari method? What are your thoughts or experiences?

I did it to my closet last spring. I threw out EVERYTHING that didn't spark joy. I felt so so so much better. It was light a weight was taken off my back. It took me about 2 months to go through it all and I filled up 2 big bags for charity.
It also allowed me to see where there were holes in my wardrobe like not enough nice shirts, lack of color, and lack of interesting pieces.
I'm in the middle of filling out my closet so it reflects me and not 15 years ago. Picking out new clothing has been great. I like shopping more than I did when I was young and I can sew anything I can't find in stores.

Do it Anon. It's worth the effort. Tossing out shit until you only have what you truly like is wonderful. I cannot emphasize that enough.

doesn't it just come down to "just keep the stuff you really like"? i feel like there's no need to buy a book for that. buying books on that topic just adds to your collection of useless stuff, unless they're ebooks i guess.

For me, I ended up keeping my work clothes and normal/fun clothes in separate wardrobes/a separate rail. It meant I could open my wardrobe and feel happy to see all the cute stuff inside, and my work stuff was still easy to access because it was all in the same place. I also tried to gradually update some of my work pieces into things I hated a bit less, but you can't do it when you have a uniform.

>> No.9462844

I keep mine separate too but do you not konmari the work stuff if none of it really sparks joy?
Also idk if this is weird but I have a ton of (non Lolita) brand clothes but I'm not sure that too many of them actually do the spark joy thing - they're really JUST clothes. I like them a lot but they don't invoke joy. Does that mean I just get rid of all of it?

>> No.9462897

>>9462844
She explains in her books that there are items that don't spark joy but you need to keep due to their usefulness. Cleaning products don't spark joy, so you keep them, however you don't need 5 different types of glass cleaners so get rid of the ones you don't need.

I've done it with both me and my partners wardrobes. He's not really into it, so i helped him thorugh displaying his clothes properly on our bed and doing all the folding for him. That way he gets a neat, clean drawer and I don't get stressed out like >>9462502 is. I don't fold his socks or underwear though, because it would just get too messy, too fast.

I think they are referring to the picture you posted. Tulle on it's own isn't really a fire hazard anymore then old furniture or 10,000 posters hanging on the wall. However, those Christmas lights do get really hot hence why they come with huge warnings. It could potentially catch fire if you were to leave Christmas lights on too long under a sheet of tulle. I think most those images are for show though. I don't think anyone actually leaves the lights on for hours at a time.
