Though I like Sakizou's illustrations I feel like some of the designs will never look good when translated into real life and honestly why has she become such a trend anyway?

It's a technical challenge. The level of detail and the use of corsets and high level materials mean doing one of her costumes is a lot more work than the average school uniform, but without doing armor. I've done two and just liked how they looked and wanted something challenging.

I'm impressed by the number of decent to good corsets in this thread. I'm disappointed in the poor ruffling and/or trimming skills on a number of these, however.

I feel like Sakizo is the new Trinity Blood.
Like I get it you have a lot of time on your hands to do all the meticulous details no one will ever notice outside of other cosplayers. Like I feel like Sakizo photo shoots are one big circle jerk of "oh you spend 300 hours heading your corset? Well I spend 500 hours beading mine"

That being said, they're pretty as shit and I would rather see a million Sakizo cosplays than Homestuck.

I'm primarily a lolita seamstress and never really considered cosplaying until it dawned on me that art book cosplays are a thing, and now I'm working on my first Sakizou costume. It interests me because of the challenge and chance to improve my skills, the ~aesthetic~ and the fact that it's not actually a character from a game or series because I'm a picky bitch and don't enjoy 99% of series out there (the ones I do enjoy often have boring/unrecognisable outfits or characters I don't resemble). I'm also not creative enough to design a good detailporn outfit myself.
Plus I fucking love desserts. Walking dessert? Yes please.

Some people are into cosplay for the craftsmanship aspect, and Sakizou's designs are both visually impressive and require a high level of skill. I've worn Sakizou outfits to lots of cons and never once have I ever felt like people were trying to one-up each other or shit talk someone else's outfit for being less elaborate. Usually it turns into a gush fest about someone's detailwork because many people who pull off Sakizou well are very interested in sewing in general.

Right this has been tagged as Sakizo cosplay but would anyone have the original illustration that this is based on?

to be fair, people gush so much over sakizo cosplays because of all the gorgeous detail work that goes into it. it makes or breaks a sakizo cosplay. if not for the details, a lot of them would just be a basic corset + ruffly skirt.

Both Noflutter and Sakizo create overdesigned art that people like to emulate because they think more detail = good. There's nothing wrong with wanting a technical challenge and if you can pull it off, all the more power to you. But there's also nothing wrong with not liking it.
