All these posts make me weep for my subpar wardrobe. I need more sweet!

Besides the fantasy coulored wigs and pastel tones, what are the main differences from nowadays sweet? (I wear mostly goth, so I can't really spot the differences)

High waist silhouettes became a lot more popular, as are different items and materials like underskirts, chiffon pieces (veils, overlays, etc.), glittery/metallic shoes, printed (not patterned) OTKs and tights that match the print on the dress, things like that.

Agreed. I know looking back fondly on OTT clown sweet is the cool thing to do now but as someone who was around way before that, I still think it was the worst lolita has ever looked. It's like those babies on tumblr who act like 90s fashion is something to strive for rather than a huge mistake. I'm not a fan of the current chiffon-with-crosses sweet either, but it's still infinitely better than the Milky Planet OTT vomit era.

definitely different shades of the colours we used to see, everythings toned down and the themes are more about stories (like swan princess) than toys and more about "classier" desserts instead of candies

I agree with you! I've also seen a bit of a decline in quality...? No custom lace, prints that repeat way too much with little variation (Milky Swan is the WORST for this), less removable pieces (like chiffon overlays that obstruct the print entirely and can't be taken off), etc.

It's not more elegant, it's more flashy and OTT now. I'm a big AP fan, but their releases the last two years were lacking. Too many trends, too busy prints, the art isn't their iconic style anymore.

They used to habe dresses with a very simple background pattern and then a nice border print (f.e. Honey Cake. Fantastic Dolly, Cinema Doll, Melty Chocolate). Now the background print is really busy and then they top is off with a photograph-like art on the border. Just look at True Rose Story or Chandelier Holic.

Prints are huge, often covering half the dress as opposed to being st the border. It's less versatile to me? Like you could, in theory, wear the sugary carnival JSK or Skirt in a toned down or casual coordinate but these dresses seem to only be worn in OTT Elegant Sweet Classic coordinates. It also seems like there is even less originality and coordination options than with OTT Sweet, even more pressure to get the whole set and look like everyone else. A lot more OPs are long sleeved now, and high waisted (which I hate, it looks awful on me), plus what other anons said before about more use of chiffon. The prints themselves are less food based and more based on either chocolate, things like books, or horses and religious imagery. More fantasy and less sweet.

I know people insist that the style today is still Sweet but it still looks like some bastard intersection of OTT classic with sweet colors.

Oh and like >>9353742 said, the dresses themselves are more elaborately designed which also lends to less versatility. No more cotton print dress + back waist now and front bow, way more hanging ribbons, chiffon overlays, collars, weird bodice designs, belts, etc
