Discuss things that grind your gears at cons and in cosplay in general.

Mine is friends who are too afraid to make their own decisions at cons so they keep following you around and don't come up with their own ideas.

Also shoes not at all matching with the character.

For me at cons its people who

Had a friend with a degenerative disease - at the point of the con she was ok at standing and walking (she could walk far enough at the time for her not to be considered disabled so not get any help) but never for extended amount of times so we'd called in advance to book at wheelchair for her, just to make it easier.

Fortunately we did so, cause so many people took them for their wheelchair based cosplays.

This is why I don't room with people anymore. Bless her heart, but this one year this stupid bitch hadn't finished any of her cosplays and insisted she would add 'finishing touches' when we got to our hotel room. She proceeded to fling cos-shit all over the room and go spray paint a shitty accessory in the bathroom. THE BATHROOM. And don't tell me one shower fan is proper ventilation when the door is shut. I had just set out my cosmetic bag and lens cases so I had to scramble back in there before they got blasted with aerosol'd paint particles.
Then the stupid accessory she fussed over so much just wound up breaking at the con anyway because the hot glue she used last minute didn't hold.

If costumes aren't done, then they're not done. Take it as a lesson to not do as many next time...

Had a friend that only wore three cosplays, and try as I may would fight tooth and nail to find issues with any new projects. She wanted to be a big name cosplayer yet would only wear her bought cosplays. We'd have a idea set up, she'd be all for it. Then as time went on she'd slowly would push to wear the same old bought shit from when she was in High school. Using everything and anything as an excuse of why she had to wear them (being poor, bills working etc). To top it off she'd get very butthurt when my new stuff would be better received then her same old cosplay. Drove me nuts, became my biggest cosplay pet peeve.

Hot yaoi pornz are so sugoi, nee?
As someone who was part of the cringy dmmd wave and also cosplayed Clear I feel partly responsible. Sorry for incoming blog post.
Luckily I wasn't 15, but 17 (oh gee what a difference it makes I know) but I still know first hand how fascinating that porn was to puberty riddled girls. Like >>9337192 points out young people do have sex drives and enjoy porn. Dmmd was that "cool" porn that you heard about on Tumblr which was only a recorded play through away. Some of the guro and truly fucked up shit had me wincing pretty hard, but you still watched it all to be part of the cool fandom. Peer pressure online, pretty much. I enjoyed the more vanilla scenes a lot though, I can't talk around that.
But is this really all that odd? Young teens have been fascinated by edgy "forbidden" stuff in most of recorded history. It's a dann shame that standards and boundaries have been pushed so hard-core gay porn is now available and encouraged among 15 year olds...

If it's distinctive music and goes with your cosplay and it's a good sound system, then by all means. But don't blare it in the hallways ALL THE TIME, if you know what I mean? Cheers. Ugly/Red noses on every character.
Beady eyes.
Lack of understanding of/effort on body proportions and perspective under the crutch of "it's my style" or "it's cartoony".
In the last 3 years, aping Steven Universe style.

No, a "hug space" in this case is just a figurative way to refer to "safe space". It's facetious and intentionally misleading. Is English a second language for you? I can understand how internet lingo is often confusing. On second thought, >>9336829 may have intended "hugbox" as the meaning.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hugbox

A "safe space" on its own can be a physical place or it can be used to refer to an overall atmosphere or an online or offline social group.
For example, a convention as a whole is a "safe space" where people can cosplay and be weeaboos without fear of getting negative attention like you would if you wore the same thing in a normal city street.
A safe space might be a private group on socail media where a group of people who share the same views get together to
A specific safe space within a convention is usually a quiet room or just a curtained off area where people can relax if they get overwhelmed with the noise and crowds.
However, "safe spaces" have gained a notoriety for being set up in universities as places where college students go to hide from controversial facts and opinions, containing activities like coloring books, suffed toys and children's snacks. Places for self-infantilization.

I feel this one hard. I have two sorta friends that seem really sweet and can sew. But they got invited to a little local con as guests/masquerade judges even though their costumes aren't that good. They both went to judging in their slutty store bought goth versions of Zelda and Peach. If you're judging costume making at a small, local, family con then why the fuck would you wear something revealing, store bought, and out of character/not at all canon? They don't even look good and you can't tell the characters but for the wigs. I have one cosplay that I wear over and over because I love it and it's very well coordinated, looks good and is easy and comfortable to wear but I also do new ones with my cosplay friends and I don't expect anyone else to like or accommodate my old favorite, I just wear it for myself. Usually it's my late night or Sunday thing to wear.

It can also just be unauthorized sudden hugs. People somehow feel the need to do this to some cute girls, especially short ones. It really just makes us want to punch you in the nuts, we are not flattered by the attention. Last time I was glomped, I got con crud too. No touching!

I really, really hate the general ~nerd sexy~ aesthetic that pops up at cons. Cheap corsets and shit tons of rouge do not a burlesque dancer make.

>>9337366
As a filthy progressive, these confuse me. The people doing this nasty shit at cons aren't going to stop when someone politely points out that their actions are wrong, and they're certainly not gonna drag their own assess into these panels.
Honestly they need to face immediate, permanent consequences.

>COSPLAY IS NOT CONSENT
I'd like it if people could stop saying this and people would stop acting like imbeciles but it is something that does still happen. And I agree that the people guilty of committing this crime (and yes, it is actually a crime) aren't likely to got to a panel on the matter but there is a better way to deal with it from the con side.

>At a con a few years back
>Person gets accused of groping cosplayers when taking photos with them
>Security waits and video tapes him doing it.
>Detains person
>Gets girl's ID, she's 16
>Hand groper over to police with video
>Groper is 22 and is charged with sexually assaulting minors
>Groper is banned for life from the con and is now a registered sex offender

And that is how you deal with the problem. You don't give them a warning. You don't take their badge. You hand them over to the police to be charged with the crime they committed. If this was the standard procedure, it would stop the problem very quickly.

>People who refuse to wear makeup because they think its not needed for cosplay...

THIS.

There's this bitch in our con scene who always cosplays Nami from One Piece and never wears any makeup or styles their wigs. In fact, when she does cosplay something else, she doesn't use makeup either and she looks like a dead fish

My problem with Cosplay is not consent is also this.

But oh lord, the best thing is that small conventions in other countries than the US also have panels about this?? Even thought it's not a problem there at all. It's like demonstrating against something silently on the other side of the world. Yikes.

I love pokémon gijinkas - IF DONE RIGHT.
Bikini version of a goddamn Abomasnow makes no fucking sense.

Pokémon gijinka checklist:
- Look at the most prominent details of the creature and include them to your costume somehow (Ears, tail, patterns etc.)
- Make sure your colours match the original character!
- Water pokémon might wear a swimsuit as a human, BUT NOT A BIKINI. They'd practically be athletes, not beach whales.
Do you see olympic swimmers in a bikini? No. The new seal mermaid shit is an exception.
- Take your time to actually look at the source material and think how different aspects could be inerpreted in human form.
- If it's just clothes you design to look like the pokémon, that's not a gijinka, make the goddamn eevee ears and tail, otherwise it's just pokémon bound shit
- Ditch any evening gown/mahou shoujo/lingerie/arabic/punk/warrior/slave/disney princess ideas and actually come up with an original design for your chosen pokémon that actually looks like it.

Don't you know that a lot of the world has started thinking that problems in American society is happening in their own society as well? Like there are black lives matter and anti-cop oppression protests in Europe where the percentage of the population that is black is over thirty times lower than in America and the amount of deaths by police violence doesn't reach 20 each year in some countries.
The obsession with America and its news is a cancer to European societies.

Excuse my off topicness.
Oh lord, tell me about it.
Our country has around 200,000 immigrants living in here which 7300 are black who are scattered all over the country. For example we might have few thousand in the big city and only 7 living in rural areas.

There is no police brutality in our country and yet there was march consisting of white people screaming BLACK LIVES MATTER and other shit. I, myself am a black person and it was awkward to watch them. Like do you want a cookie or something? Do you know exactly what you are marching for? Why are you copying America's political movements when there is no similiar issues regarding police brutality in our country? I would never have to fear here to get shot by a police.

And in cosplay scene people look down on tans (that they have gotten from being outside or on holidays or whatever), because for some dumb reason it's seen as a black face? Or if you cosplay a character that has darker complexion you can't do it because you are white and by doing so you are white washing the character?

I don't understand what these people who project these beliefs are doing other than causing segreration (we even had a no whites-area (not my cup of tea, why would you need a time out from white people) and unnecessary drama. I thought cons where a place where we all could share same interest and fondness of liking the same things together, but even there you can't escape politics.

Genderbending a character. I don't see the need to force a character design of the opposite gender to fit your own, when the same series might have equally good characters of your same sex.
This triggers me even more when a girl thinks genderbending means just wearing a miniskirt or bikini of the same colors as the original character, or a skinny fukboi that go shirtless or almost, because he wants to show his nonexistent abs.

This is stupid?? The reason why most people get a short wig with a clip on is because it is fucking impossible to get all of your hair into one of those tied up wigs. I think they looks pretty shit honestly, I'd rather wear a short one with a flip on and have a decent amount of volume than wear a tied up one with my hair sticking out everywhere.
