Had a friend with a degenerative disease - at the point of the con she was ok at standing and walking (she could walk far enough at the time for her not to be considered disabled so not get any help) but never for extended amount of times so we'd called in advance to book at wheelchair for her, just to make it easier.

Fortunately we did so, cause so many people took them for their wheelchair based cosplays.

This is why I don't room with people anymore. Bless her heart, but this one year this stupid bitch hadn't finished any of her cosplays and insisted she would add 'finishing touches' when we got to our hotel room. She proceeded to fling cos-shit all over the room and go spray paint a shitty accessory in the bathroom. THE BATHROOM. And don't tell me one shower fan is proper ventilation when the door is shut. I had just set out my cosmetic bag and lens cases so I had to scramble back in there before they got blasted with aerosol'd paint particles.
Then the stupid accessory she fussed over so much just wound up breaking at the con anyway because the hot glue she used last minute didn't hold.

If costumes aren't done, then they're not done. Take it as a lesson to not do as many next time...

Had a friend that only wore three cosplays, and try as I may would fight tooth and nail to find issues with any new projects. She wanted to be a big name cosplayer yet would only wear her bought cosplays. We'd have a idea set up, she'd be all for it. Then as time went on she'd slowly would push to wear the same old bought shit from when she was in High school. Using everything and anything as an excuse of why she had to wear them (being poor, bills working etc). To top it off she'd get very butthurt when my new stuff would be better received then her same old cosplay. Drove me nuts, became my biggest cosplay pet peeve.

As someone who was part of the cringy dmmd wave and also cosplayed Clear I feel partly responsible. Sorry for incoming blog post.
Luckily I wasn't 15, but 17 (oh gee what a difference it makes I know) but I still know first hand how fascinating that porn was to puberty riddled girls. Like >>9337192 points out young people do have sex drives and enjoy porn. Dmmd was that "cool" porn that you heard about on Tumblr which was only a recorded play through away. Some of the guro and truly fucked up shit had me wincing pretty hard, but you still watched it all to be part of the cool fandom. Peer pressure online, pretty much. I enjoyed the more vanilla scenes a lot though, I can't talk around that.
But is this really all that odd? Young teens have been fascinated by edgy "forbidden" stuff in most of recorded history. It's a dann shame that standards and boundaries have been pushed so hard-core gay porn is now available and encouraged among 15 year olds...

The trick is to find that sweet spot of distance from the booth: close enough that you can identify what they're selling, but far enough away that eye contact and conversation won't happen. One of the best con-related things I ever learned.

Honestly with this one, some piercings (like nose piercings) aren't meant to be taken out for more then 20 minutes at a time without them healing up.

I feel this one hard. I have two sorta friends that seem really sweet and can sew. But they got invited to a little local con as guests/masquerade judges even though their costumes aren't that good. They both went to judging in their slutty store bought goth versions of Zelda and Peach. If you're judging costume making at a small, local, family con then why the fuck would you wear something revealing, store bought, and out of character/not at all canon? They don't even look good and you can't tell the characters but for the wigs. It annoys me when someone is judging a cosplay competition and is in bought/casual cosplay. I feel like a judge should be the crème de la crème of handmade cosplays but more and more I'm seeing cosplayers becoming judges because they're pretty.

What gets me is when people cosplay characters who have their hair in a ponytail and their wig is just a short one with a clip on piece like???? If the character has a ponytail that's past your butt I can understand still having it as a clip on BC putting something that long into a ponytail is goddamn hell, and you can get away with it for long pigtails or thick ones (eg. Miku, Luna, etc) but for characters like Eli or whatever, it drives me mad. If your character has a ponytail then have your wig in a goddamn ponytail. You can make exceptions for the really high maintenance wigs but oh my god

Maki cosplayers that don't bother to style their wigs properly. It's such a slight curl it would be simple to do but I barely ever see any decent wigs for her.

I'd like it if people could stop saying this and people would stop acting like imbeciles but it is something that does still happen. And I agree that the people guilty of committing this crime (and yes, it is actually a crime) aren't likely to got to a panel on the matter but there is a better way to deal with it from the con side.

Pokémon gijinka checklist:
- Look at the most prominent details of the creature and include them to your costume somehow (Ears, tail, patterns etc.)
- Make sure your colours match the original character!
- Water pokémon might wear a swimsuit as a human, BUT NOT A BIKINI. They'd practically be athletes, not beach whales.
Do you see olympic swimmers in a bikini? No. The new seal mermaid shit is an exception.
- Take your time to actually look at the source material and think how different aspects could be inerpreted in human form.
- If it's just clothes you design to look like the pokémon, that's not a gijinka, make the goddamn eevee ears and tail, otherwise it's just pokémon bound shit
- Ditch any evening gown/mahou shoujo/lingerie/arabic/punk/warrior/slave/disney princess ideas and actually come up with an original design for your chosen pokémon that actually looks like it.

Genderbending a character. I don't see the need to force a character design of the opposite gender to fit your own, when the same series might have equally good characters of your same sex.
This triggers me even more when a girl thinks genderbending means just wearing a miniskirt or bikini of the same colors as the original character, or a skinny fukboi that go shirtless or almost, because he wants to show his nonexistent abs.
