There was Thug Nagisa's guide to dating at Kaizokucon last year, so a bit different. I went to it, it was a tad cringy desu. But they made a good effort in fairness, they just seemed a bit nervous, and you'd really want to be into Free to appreciate it. Not something I'd go to again.
But yeah, timetable seems pretty boring. Seems like most people go to bear con for the craic and drinking afterwards.

They need more charismatic speakers. Eric Stewart and that Team 4 Star lad are good but you're only going to see them if you care about their work. If they could get more random cool speakers that everyone gets hyped about more people would show up

I'm stupidly close to trying to found a con. I've mentioned it to people - then completely overslept on a day when I wanted to meet people about it - and I'd have an idea of what I'd end up running, nd a basic roadmap to achieving it.

If only to keep an active convention going, to give people a place to meet up, and maybe show some older classic anime - because everyone has crunchyroll.

I'd be aiming for 300, with a max capacity of 500. No guests because we've no money at year zero. But maybe, we'll give 3-400 people a good enough time that they'll recommend us for next year.

Failcon was probably bigger, but it's not a failure if it hits its targets and everybody agrees it delivered what they paid for.

Do it right, rather than do it impressive. Do it next year. Do it the year after that. Grow in steps, rather than blast onto the scene with all the big-con trappings and then grenade after 1 year with unpaid debts.

The downside is that I know I'm the worst person for it. I have a dreadful tendancy to flake, and if I was to do something like this, I'd be genuinely afraid of blowing it and dissapointing a lot of people.

But it's also the first time I've ever looked at a challenge that genuinely excited me. And I've been around the con scene for... well, a long fucking time.

I'll be at Kaizokukon, so maybe I'll be around sounding out interest. But does that sound like something people'll be interested in?

It doesn't sound like you know anything about running a business at all and it'll flop in the first year if you don't. It's about running a business, not solely about how passionate you are unfortunately.

Look, I've had fantasies about running a con myself but they're just that- fantasies. I don't have any skills in business or marketing or budgeting and I sure as hell don't have a group of people I trust enough to run it with me, I don't have actual contacts in those fields.

If you're serious about this, you'd be out doing surveys and market research, not asking people on an anonymous forum or asking random con-goers if they'd help you out, that sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

That being said, if you are serious about this and you genuinely do your research (idk seems unlikely due to how unmotivated you said you were to do any actual hard work but just in case anyone serious about starting a con sees this) I would suggest plenty of +18s events in the pub (where ids are checked, the +18s at Akuma were full of edgy 14 year olds), some screenings that people actually care about since nobody ever goes to them, interesting panels (Akuma's this year were repetitive and just pointless) cheaper food to encourage people to stay in the venue rather than leave and have to skip events, good trade hall is crucial imo and I get so bored of seeing the usual Sub-City funko pop shit and bootlegs, some creative events (I thought the pokemon go might have been interesting if it were held half a year ago...), some genuine cosplay panels (you can only sit through so many "cosplay 101" panels).

The corporate cons are soulless due to the fact that they have no panels or events in which you meet other people and have a laugh, also I could watch a Q&A online where I'd have a better view and be able to hear better too so what's the incentive? They're just a money making mess. You spend a lot for entry just to walk around the trade hall where they hope you'll spend MORE money and in top of that there's no point in going to meet and greets unless you're prepared to spend even more money again.

I've never been to a con outside of Ireland because I never felt the need to. I've always had good craic at our small cons, they've always been so full of personality and creativity. If someone were to consider making a new one, it would need to upkeep that standard. I've always felt like I've gotten what I paid for at the smaller cons.

I've been to nearly all the Man of Action panels at the last few cons and though the format of doing dramatic readings of fan-fiction has been done to death, I've rarely if ever at all come out of a Man of Action panel feeling jaded.

The guys involved seem to be having a lot of fun and are actually keen on making sure that those who come along actually have fun as well.

They all come across as being really genuinely nice fellows as well. No airs or graces just a bunch of dudes having a bit of craic. Don't think I'd ever get sick of going along to see them at cons.

I believe at birth, a baby is capable of independent life which isn't possible until the advanced stages of pregnancy. But the term is subjective which is why it should be the mother's prerogative to define the transition herself based on her own moral outlook.

Saying a 3 month pregnancy features a "baby" and you're wrong to think otherwise is ignorant and disrespectful.

I put it to you that at the moment of conception we are dealing with if not a human life, a candidate for the human race. What are you and I, but a small collection of cells in the vast scheme of things, and if you're going to mention the number of cells that make up the baby, in our guts we have almost 3 times more bacterial cells than every other cell in our body!
