So that's basically what steam lolita is: a (probably brown) lolita coord with some gears. Then they call it gear lolita themselves instead of waiting for true steampunks to use the term against them. The Western steampunk community is so annoying and embarrassing tough, I wouldn't want to be associated with them.

This thread was inspiring, thanks op and to all the non-contrarians.

When I first got into lolita, my boyfriend saw steam punk in it because I was looking at military coords and he wanted me to do one. I had seen how much cgl hated it though so I acted like I wasn't interested.
I feel like there's definitely a distinct group of people here who will call certain substyles ita just because they don't like it personally or they've only seen it coorded poorly.

Substyles can't be automatic ita.

>> No.9307712

Steampunk seems to be gaining steam (pun intended) in Japan. It usually looks absolutely horrid in the west. There is hope it could look decent but I think the style should just stay strictly in steam punk, and shed the word "lolita". You can still wear it but don't call it Steampunk Lolita. Attempts at making new X lolita usually often end up ita.

I heard in the Western steampunk community people even make up personality's and names for their steampunk character, it's like cosplay/role-playing to them?
