Hello Gulls, as requested I have created a form where everyone can submit their favourite (web)stores for all /cgl/ related items. The entries received on this form will be turned into a list and posted in future OP's. You can find the form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeXr1RV9XvBYHrXEZfvBBGNvpOjfzXXENx877hia7OU6zjqHQ/viewform

Is there a way too find (normal-acting) people who want to go to cons together? I don't mean it in a "tfw no bf ;-;"-way, but just like assemble a group of people who normally have to go alone for whatever reason. Maybe I overdid it with the dry brushing.

>> No.9293764

Maybe, but the biggest trouble you have is that round PVC pipe doesn't pick up detail as well as an angled steel crowbar. Try taping off (lightly) the silver ends, add some 'marker' blots (removable stuff?) and go over it with the red again. Then remove the marker blots (which should now have a bit of the silver weathering) and it could look a little closer to what you're trying to achieve.

Am I making any sense?

>> No.9294240

>>9293751
The only thing I can see "wrong" is that your red paint doesn't stop with a straight edge, like on the real one. As other anon recommends, maybe tape off the silver and go over it again with red so you create the straight edge?
Aside from that, I'd say you can add a little more black grime, actually.

I never talk to other people, even if I can obviously see they're gonna go to the con. But I do use the 'carefully watch where cosplayers are walking towards' trick a lot. I do remember this one time, however, when no one knew where the con was lol. We had to find it out together (I think that was Nishicon?). I also remember this other time that I was actually the only one knowing where to go (Tsunacon), and people seemed to take the hint of following me. It's pretty hilarious to see how we all kind of try to rely of each other in this situation.

How do your normie family/friends/coworkers feel about cosplay?

I've been a weeb since I was like 10 so my family is used to it, and I met most of my friends through anime-related interests. You could say I'm in a kind of weeaboo social bubble. But a good friend of mine is getting really serious with a normie guy and when I was having lunch with her, her normie bf and his sister someone mentioned cosplay, and the guy and his sister said it's a fetish/porn thing. Like they were totally convinced cosplay is a kind of nerdy public sex play and I couldn't convince them otherwise. Now they probably think I'm a slut or something.
This is literally the first time I've had this kind of talk with normies so I didn't expect this...

Not cosplay but LARP for me and it's kinda weird. I really don't do anything to help their stance on it, since I never really mention it. Kind of a shameful thing for me to be honest.
But well dealing with people's public opinions of really nerdy hobbies is kinda hard I guess. Esp. if you have a lot of non-nerd hobbies too, or normie friends.

The best way I found to deal with it is just kinda not mention it. And when it does come up that I do it, treat more like a weird hobby rather than something I really care about.
Now that I read back on this, it's terrible advice.

Best is to just ignore it (I mean, how many times are you going to see them). But if you really want to say something back: "isn't it just sad people rather believe their own ungrounded fantasy, than to believe someone who has actually knowledge about the subject. But hé, pornhub is the new google.

And if you're a sadist like me, you could always laugh at their face and ridicul them for have stupid, ungrounded idea's and treat them like children.

I don't know, fighting back some times just ain't worth it.
I accept it's a strange hobby and people will treat it as such, I mean I could start and explain to my rugby team, or people at a night club that "No I swear I'm not a weirdo, you guys just don't know enough about it" but that'll only make you look like a bigger weirdo.

Instead I just sorta accept it's a weird thing to do and try to joke about it, even if it feels a little painful sometimes.

If it ain't worth it for you, then it's not worth it for you.

my guess would be, that if you're bisexual or gay you probably are a tad bit more open minded then most people. Which would lead to first of all, being interested in more than just the normal activities and be more accepting towards hobbies not seen as normal. And second of all, normal hobbies, activities etc would be more likely to be filled with close minded, heterosexuals in which a bisexual of gay person would possibly not feel comfortable.

Also adding to this, it are not only woman in the cosplay/anime community who has a higher percentage of bisexual, gays and pansexuals.

crappy con or not.

>> No.9295755

Problem is that with a crappy con, the atmosphere tend to get bad as well. The reason why I like Animecon and Abunai is that people are less bored and have something to do. This mean they are in higher spirit, which means the con is in higher spirit.
There is a hugh difference between a con with wrestling show and a whisky tasting, and a con with a bouncy "the-papers-are-in-order-so-if-you-break-your-neck-its-not-our-problem" castle.

As for rock groups, the thing with Avex is, that the label itself is super electronic orientated. Back-on is maybe one of the few rock groups? But I'm seeing that Monkey Majik and Nightmare are with Avex too, so that could be some good choices on that for the future.

Not entirely, Animecon is more event oriented, so you will find more workshops, lectures and all that stuff. Then again, Animecon of its type. Other conventions, like Abunai or Nishicon have a program as well, just a little less solid (quality in that order). On the same level you have Firstlook and DCC, which is on setup probably most comparable with an indoor version of Elfia. Many shops, less events.
On the lowest part you have Tomocrap, Terracon, formula cosplay and such. They have barely anything and the workshops they have are usually given by second or third tier cosplayers. Avoid if possible.

But once it's the second time, the attitude totally changes.. Idk why. Maybe they care more about events that are new, so if there's something new to book they just ditch the non new ones?

What >>9298675 said. I honestly have never been to a Tomo event and I never will be. But I've got quite some experience with international conventions and Animecon is handsdown the best con I know, in terms of organisation, schedule and things to offer.
I guess it depends on what you define as 'good'or 'enjoyable' on a con then. If you like massive dealer rooms with thousands of people where you can barely move, then yes, there are international cons that do it better. But personally, that's not really what I like to see, nor do they end up being organised very well.

>>9298680
They have rather high rated international cosplay guests. Reika, Yaya Han, Kamui, Wirru, and have had professionals in anime etc. That you don't know them doesn't mean they're not 'great'. Anon, are you by any chance either bitter for a personal reason or are you just not looking?

The problem with Dutch cons is that they try to be everything and appeal to everything and also try to appeal to normies. They just end up being overpriced cringey shit.

What do I have to be bitter about? It's shit. If you focus mainly on cosplay then World Cosplay Summit costs about $20 but animecon is more like $50 at the door.

I don't know why Dutch cons are always so terrible, even France gets big name guest directors and famous lolita designers and models. I'm embarrassed by how bad the cons are here.

Living abroad with a load of cons here, but I'm genuinely not enjoying them as much as I enjoy Animecon, and that's the only con in NL I go to.

I don't love celebrities but the point is a con with guest list and no good guests might as well not have guests. All the cons share many of the same groups and panels and games.

Sorry I don't think $50 to play stupid games at a con is worth it when I could just play games with friends for no money.

The Abunai con trailers gave me literal cancer I'm suing them for damages. That con has always been awful too. Yeah lets not talk about how weird it is if someone asks you to come to the hentai watching event with sweating fat men.

Comicon costs about as much as Animecon and obviously there is a world of difference between the two even if you don't like comics. Then Comiket is always free to attend if you like anime, manga, cosplay, and all sorts of fan creator stores. UK and France and even Germany are all better too.

>I don't think $50 to play stupid games at a con is worth it when I could just play games with friends for no money
You are aware both Animecon and Abunai have a lot more to offer than just games, right? You have legit whiskey and sake tastings, lectures, workshops and international competitions as well. Best part of all? With the exception of the (imho extremely well priced) tastings and certain workshops all of these things are included in the ticket price. You don't see that at Comic Con where you get to wait in a line for hours and have to pay for pretty much every single panel you want to attend. But maybe you're right and this just isn't for you, in which case it's a good thing nobody is forcing you to go.

Yeah random celebrities is totally the same thing as guests. Derp.

Wow legit whisky tasting at an anime con that's so cool and anime and proves they don't try to appeal to everything and end up shit. Oh wait nevermind.

"lectures and workshops" pfffff hahahaha, baby's first *insert* tutorial, oh dear poor anon. Worst part is they recycle some of them between different cons.

You don't see all that random stuff at other cons because it's garbage. A huge pile of shit is still shit no matter how much of it you have.

I was halfway I'm writing a response, with many examples of good stuff at Dutch conventios, but I realized it does not matter. For some reason you want Dutch conventions to suck, so you try to make everything around them sound bad. It does not matter that many here show you examples of why it is not like that, it does not matter that many here who go to many conventions abroad, tell you differently: In you mind the conventions abroad must all be better, no matter if is true or not. In your mind, Dashcon is way better than anything the Netherlands has to offer.

That there is an increased presence of foreigners at Dutch conventions and many of the people I meet at conventions in Germany, Belgium France or the U.K. know about AnimeCon does not mean a thing to you. You just want our conversations to be bad. And therefore you are disqualified to give any opinion about conventions at all.

my scale goes like this:

Genious
marvellous
Brilliant
Great <- animecon
Good
OK <- tomo
Mediocre <- abunai

bad <- otakucon

It also depends on the glue sticks as you have various kinds. the one I have right now is stronger than the foam itself. It holds straps all right, and it needs quite the force to be pulled loose. If you do however, you pull a part of the foam with it and your part is ruined.

True, but the fast majority will just assume a cheap glue gun and sticks from the Action will cut it. Then after having their project disintegrate in front of their eyes they'll follow your advice to get proper sticks, only to find out their cheap glue gun doesn't get hot enough to melt the good/strong sticks. Like my grandpa always used to say, when it comes to tools "goedkoop is duurkoop".

It was a DR meetup, some girls started yelling slurs at the cosplayers/fans. They tried to ignore it, girls ended up spitting on a few cosplayers and started punching. It ended up in a small fistfight, but the cosplayers called secuirity and the meet was saved when they removed themselves from the location.

Plans for this eve? I'm on the bus with a bottle of alcohol in my bag, I wish blurred lines would stop playing inside my head.

For the first time in years I've decided to stay home rather than going out or attending a house party. While I regret being alone it's probably for the best, I'm no fun when I'm depressed anyway.

You know you want it...

I never mentioned a race. You just assume I do. But in reality, the girls I'm talking about do not have a specific race, more like a specific 'educational level'. From personal experience as an ex-Eindhovenaar.

I got 3 tips for you:
1. Set reachable goals 0.5 kg per week and such.
2. Start slow. 10 min walking 10 min bikeing and 10 min rowing. Add 2 min per session till you reach 1 hour pp.
3. Make a meal plan. Start at 2000 cal and remove 100 kcal a week till you reach 1500 kcal fatsecret has a great app to calorie count that has most dutch products.

You can do it!,
