オタサーの姫 or "Princess of the Anime Club" style is something that was recently brought up by a helpful Anon in Japan as an actual thing.

It's basically what the Japanese term as "otome-kei" (no relation to the Western term) with brands like Axes Femme, Liz Lisa, and other generally cutesy styles often worn by college girls as daily fashion.

The fashion is seen as being mostly worn by college girls in anime clubs/male-nerd dominated fields where cute girls are a rarity, hence the Princess title. To put it bluntly, cute geek girl style, both fashionable and fandom.

The focal points of this fashion are:

>OTK / thigh-highs
>fandom/cute accessories
>cutesy attractive style without being too childish

I'm the translator anon and I think it's more complex than that. It's true the term "otasa no hime" is derogatory, but I think most of these memes are otaku poking fun at each other. There aren't too many normies drawing manga memes on Twitter.

Another anon in the last thread pointed out how odotte mita-type girls wear these kind of clothes as well, and it's true. Girls obsessed with Nico Nico Douga or girls pandering to it also tend to wear this kind of stuff. It's a girly otaku style. One of my coworkers in Japan was a "twitter idol" and wore stuff like this too.

I translated the pictures because their descriptions included fashion tidbits, not because of beta orbiter memes (though I do enjoy those too). I don't think "otasa no hime" is a great name for the fashion. I think if we're going to make this a thing, otahime is better, because it just means otaku princess and more or less makes sense in Japanese (you can Google "otahime-kei" オタ姫系 and Google is smart enough to figure out what you mean) which is better than a name completely made up like otome-kei. You could also call it Japanese girly geek casual or something but that doesn't sound so great.

I knew a girl like this who was in an anime club; frumpy as fuck, hair filled with split ends, orange foundation but wore those cat thigh highs and pleated skirts constantly. When I searched for 乙女 on coordisnap I actually got the results of pic related that spanned a few pages. So maybe otome kei is really a thing that is a less nerdy version of otahime style. Although when I typed that keyword into Wear's search, I got normie fashion results so idk.

Searching 乙女スタイル (maiden style) on google images results in pics of vintage clothing and a polished girly style.
Searching 乙女ファッション (maiden fashion) got me lolita and some himekaji-ish results. So if otome kei is a thing in Japan it might be even more niche than dolly kei was.

Yes, this is basically neckbeard fashion, but for women (so, legbeard fashion?) except I'm not actually surprised that girls on /cgl/ are all over it in a non-ironic, non-nostalgic way.

Asides from the cringy and insulting connotations, this fashion seems to rely heavily on cheap materials (polyester blouses and skirts) and unflattering details (too many ruffles, high-waisted corset skirts rarely look good outside of an anime, etc). Combined with the limp, thinning and greasy-looking black hair and zero makeup, it's pretty horrendous. Why dress yourself up in elaborate frills if you're not going to even put some mascara on? It's so weird.

Someone in the last thread compared it to taking diagrams of "basic white girl dress" and turning it into "White Girl Kei~~~" and say "They usually wear Victoria's Secret and drink Starbucks! And prep or preppy is a style that emulates that seen in a preparatory school.

No wild hair, no wild makeup, cute toned down look, button ups and cardigans, simple ribbons, the little logos typical of say... a private school combined with a casual pair of jeans or a pleated/tennis skirt.

Some stores specialize in a surf or hippie style while other stores specialize in clubwear with short skirts, high heels, and daring graphic patterns...

Kei is "style" as far as I'm aware, not fashion. And both words, to me, have a specific connotation. I would not called jeans and a t-shirt a fashion or style. I don't know that's it's necessarily dressing "the way they think men would like" but the premise here is "girl who is the only non-male member of an otaku club". To me that implies a girl who doesn't compete with other girls, explaining the no-color makeup and hair, and also a girl influenced by male otaku culture, as opposed to fujoshi culture, which makes the twintails and kneesocks the defining features of the style, with a pinch of ruffles and lace.

For example, a girl who wants to dress like the anime characters she likes but doesn't wear makeup because it normally isn't explicitly drawn unless a character is an older female or a man cross-dressing, and she has no frame of reference from not hanging out with other girls.

In the end it's still half cutesy-casual-look half punchline-to-a-joke. Cat faced kneesocks aren't THAT far removed from Naruto headbands.

Really though, I think it'd be good just to have a separate thread for this, both to be nostalgic and to set it up as the daily fashion equivalent of the ita. Because we all know someone that needs it.

To all the people saying "It's not a fashion!" well.. it sort of is? A fashion is a distinct look that can be identified by a glance and this is distinctive enough that a ton of people can make actual diagrams to describe each aspect of it.

Is it a major thing? No.
Is it a distinct look a certain type of person wears? Yes.
Is it popular within a certain group? Yes.
Is it accepted? Eh.. depends.

Yes, people do mock the style and the type of girl who wears it but on the flip side, some people love it and think it's cute/attractive and the girls who wear it feel good about themselves. It's meant to be a comfy fashion though. A daily easy to wear style. It's primarily worn by college students so this makes a lot of sense. I actually wear lolita to my own classes every other week or so, but when I'm running short on time, the weather is extreme, or I just feel like being comfy, I wear something cute and easy to wear instead. I laugh about it because it does point out many things that first appeal to people about japanese fashion in high school. I personally fell in love with fluffy skirts, knee high socks, and updo styles.

Depends on height - 90lb with high body fat percentage on someone 5 feet or shorter with a small frame could still be someone with C cup boobs, because cup is proportional to underbust. I've never been sub 100lb since I started lifting weights so I'm not sure what would happen to my boobs currently, but as a 5'0 90lb 16 year old I had small C cup boobs - 28C, which is basically flat and would look smaller than your 32B.

It depends. Medically speaking there is not "thin" or "thick" but underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese. While normal weight being best of them, I wouldn't say underweight people look better than overweight, especially unclothed.
Also while 100 lbs has possiblity being in normal weight range, 90 lbs is most definately underweight.
