Is this the new thing or will it stay a japanese meme?

Discuss.

This is not really a style... It's on par with stereotypical neckbeard/fedora wear, something to be ridiculed. More of a meme/stereotype than anything so I'd be incredibly reluctant to call this j-fash.

You could have made a better opening post..anyway I'll dump some stuff.

Info from last thread:

オタサーの姫 or "Princess of the Anime Club" style is something that was recently brought up by a helpful Anon in Japan as an actual thing.

It's basically what the Japanese term as "otome-kei" (no relation to the Western term) with brands like Axes Femme, Liz Lisa, and other generally cutesy styles often worn by college girls as daily fashion.

The fashion is seen as being mostly worn by college girls in anime clubs/male-nerd dominated fields where cute girls are a rarity, hence the Princess title. To put it bluntly, cute geek girl style, both fashionable and fandom.

The focal points of this fashion are:
>fashionable skirts/dresses
>OTK / thigh-highs
>fandom/cute accessories
>cutesy attractive style without being too childish

>Note: this is basically what the Japanese consider to be "otome-kei" but since there's an issue with that name being taken by a different style in the West, we're using the less flattering name of Otasa-no-Hime for it.

Pic related is the discussion that started the last thread before it got ruined.

I'm the translator anon and I think it's more complex than that. It's true the term "otasa no hime" is derogatory, but I think most of these memes are otaku poking fun at each other. There aren't too many normies drawing manga memes on Twitter.

Another anon in the last thread pointed out how odotte mita-type girls wear these kind of clothes as well, and it's true. Girls obsessed with Nico Nico Douga or girls pandering to it also tend to wear this kind of stuff. It's a girly otaku style. One of my coworkers in Japan was a "twitter idol" and wore stuff like this too.

I translated the pictures because their descriptions included fashion tidbits, not because of beta orbiter memes (though I do enjoy those too). I don't think "otasa no hime" is a great name for the fashion. I think if we're going to make this a thing, otahime is better, because it just means otaku princess and more or less makes sense in Japanese (you can Google "otahime-kei" オタ姫系 and Google is smart enough to figure out what you mean) which is better than a name completely made up like otome-kei. You could also call it Japanese girly geek casual or something but that doesn't sound so great.

When I searched for 乙女 on coordisnap I actually got the results of pic related that spanned a few pages. So maybe otome kei is really a thing that is a less nerdy version of otahime style. Although when I typed that keyword into Wear's search, I got normie fashion results so idk.

Searching 乙女スタイル (maiden style) on google images results in pics of vintage clothing and a polished girly style.
Searching 乙女ファッション (maiden fashion) got me lolita and some himekaji-ish results. So if otome kei is a thing in Japan it might be even more niche than dolly kei was.

Yes, this is basically neckbeard fashion, but for women (so, legbeard fashion?) except I'm not actually surprised that girls on /cgl/ are all over it in a non-ironic, non-nostalgic way.

Asides from the cringy and insulting connotations, this fashion seems to rely heavily on cheap materials (polyester blouses and skirts) and unflattering details (too many ruffles, high-waisted corset skirts rarely look good outside of an anime, etc). Combined with the limp, thinning and greasy-looking black hair and zero makeup, it's pretty horrendous. Why dress yourself up in elaborate frills if you're not going to even put some mascara on? It's so weird.

OP of the last topic here, thanks to new OP for this one and I tried to rewrite the opening post for the topic for whenever (hopefully!) we get a third general.

If I don't get to it before anyone else, please use this as the opening for the next one!

>Otahime or Otasa no Hime / オタサーの姫 meaning "Princess of the Anime Club" is a twist on generally fashionable Japanese style by adding otaku touches to it.
This fashion can be seen worn by college girls in anime clubs, odottemita dancers,Nico Nico Douga girls, and other Japanese girls trying to look more like girls from anime/generally moe.
Generally it's a cute geek girl fashion but it has style points like:
>fashionable skirts/dresses (often ruffled!)
>OTK / thigh highs (cute animal themed is common)
>fandom/mascot accessories (often anime character bag or phone charms)
>hair is undyed
>makeup is subtle/natural looking

>The style, while poked fun of by outsiders, is not to be taken seriously but it is popular with otaku girls of all kind.

Someone in the last thread compared it to taking diagrams of "basic white girl dress" and turning it into "White Girl Kei~~~" and say "They usually wear Victoria's Secret and drink Starbucks! The fashion rules involve having a bun and wearing uggs!" and going into the #VictoriasSecret tag on instagram and insisting that everyone in it is consciously following a universal style called White Girl Kei.

The previous thread even mentions how other Japanese girls don't want to be associated with this style. It's an insult. I get that it's a cute little meme for non-Japanese weeaboos on this board who like to compartmentalize every aspect of their wardrobe, but this isn't a new style for you to fangirl over and discuss, this isn't a new label to slap on yourself.

The pictures post here range from just cutesy daily wear, borderline larme outfits, anyone wearing Liz Lisa and Akiba-idol style. If some random Japanese chick likes Liz Lisa and has an anime keychain, is she now an Otasa no Hime? Maybe she's just...*gasp* wearing clothes?

This isn't fashionable, this doesn't even have a community attached to it, it's an insult, these diagram memes are insulting the girls in them, calling them fat and ugly and saying they don't take care of themselves/don't wear makeup.

No, it's not. We don't consider what random girls wear in a mall a fashion. We don't consider what lazy college student wear a fashion.

We can stereotype how certain groups of people dress. We can sterotype hipster wear, and "preppy" wear and geek wear, and picture something when someone mentions those groups of people, but that doesn't make what they wear specific fashions.

And prep or preppy is a style that emulates that seen in a preparatory school.

No wild hair, no wild makeup, cute toned down look, button ups and cardigans, simple ribbons, the little logos typical of say... a private school combined with a casual pair of jeans or a pleated/tennis skirt.

Some stores specialize in a surf or hippie style while other stores specialize in clubwear with short skirts, high heels, and daring graphic patterns...

I don't know that's it's necessarily dressing "the way they think men would like" but the premise here is "girl who is the only non-male member of an otaku club". To me that implies a girl who doesn't compete with other girls, explaining the no-color makeup and hair, and also a girl influenced by male otaku culture, as opposed to fujoshi culture, which makes the twintails and kneesocks the defining features of the style, with a pinch of ruffles and lace.

For example, a girl who wants to dress like the anime characters she likes but doesn't wear makeup because it normally isn't explicitly drawn unless a character is an older female or a man cross-dressing, and she has no frame of reference from not hanging out with other girls.

In the end it's still half cutesy-casual-look half punchline-to-a-joke. Cat faced kneesocks aren't THAT far removed from Naruto headbands.

To all the people saying "It's not a fashion!" well.. it sort of is? A fashion is a distinct look that can be identified by a glance and this is distinctive enough that a ton of people can make actual diagrams to describe each aspect of it.

Is it a major thing? No.
Is it a distinct look a certain type of person wears? Yes.
Is it popular within a certain group? Yes.
Is it accepted? Eh.. depends.

Yes, people do mock the style and the type of girl who wears it but on the flip side, some people love it and think it's cute/attractive and the girls who wear it feel good about themselves. To me, that's no different than something like sweet lolita where some people mock it for being babyish/ageplay while others think it's the best substyle of lolita ever and the people who wear it don't give a fuck, they just think they look cute.

It's meant to be a comfy fashion though. A daily easy to wear style. It's primarily worn by college students so this makes a lot of sense. I actually wear lolita to my own classes every other week or so, but when I'm running short on time, the weather is extreme, or I just feel like being comfy, I wear something cute and easy to wear instead. Just like this. Of course you can't say that every girl tried to look their best in each of their outfits, but that's because looking good isn't the main point. and you're being too salty and taking it too seriously. You are the one making the assumption that these girls are wearing this kind of stuff simply for otaku guys. Some may be like that but you can't generalize all of them. Some girls can be too fujo to be interested in guys or want to emulate anime as close as they can or just have fun representing their fandom with their clothes. You can't just assume why they wear what they wear. That's like when people assume lolitas wear the fashion for attention or for fetish wear. That can be true for some attentionwhores or sissies in lolitas but not true for all. The common element here is that something is geeky, whether it's a weeby accessory, in a geeky environment, or looking unrefined due to not having makeup, contacts, or styled hair.

Also you're being contradictory. First you say that they look like they didn't even try, and now you're saying they're trying to get attention. Which is it then? Are they being too lazy to dress up or are trying to cater to otaku guys?

Look, most of the memes came from otaku drawings from twitter. So we can assume its otakus making fun of these girls. It could possibly even be these girls poking fun at themselves. Especially with asian standards today, it wouldn't be surprising some of these people are just being hypercritical, including the girls towards themselves. Plus shitposters come in here and ask why most lolitas look so ugly are fat, but obviously lolitas aren't dressing for those shit posters, theyre dressing for themselves so it doesn't matter to them. The people who fit into these stereotypes don't care how they appear to others, they enjoy what they're wearing because its fun for them.

Lastly, you're entitled to your opinion. But when will you stop acting like we have to listen to yours and think it's the right one? There's nothing special about yours and if these trends bothers you so much, go hide the thread.

It may be distasteful af but I don't care. The same way I don't care what people think of me in lolita. However, I also laugh because I know people who fit the mentality as well. I'll never forget sitting around with a childhood friend when she exclaimed, 'I'm the CUTEST girl there is in the world. I think this is where I'm getting confused.

I reread this. There's a style that exists in Japan that features frilly blouses or cute sweaters and cardigans, 'no makeup' makeup, over the knee socks, cute and/or fandom accessories, cute hairstyles, and short skirts popular among Japanese college students and it's 'otome'.

However, there also exists what's called 'princess of the anime club' which is a derogatory term toward those who don't dress themselves well. These people are often girls who are in anime/geek clubs and can't match/lay it on too thick, but think they are the cutest thing ever.

But you are using the derogatory term for what would be the equivilant an 'ita' in lolita because 'otome-kei' was already taken?

Even though this shouldn't be considered a style as much as a meme, I think it would be nice to have a space to discuss a type of dress like that which a lot of female otaku/fujoshi are known to wear.
You can't really call it a specific style, like you would himekaji, otome, lolita, whatever, since those have rules and involve a full look. Talking about casual J-fashion also doesn't necessarily mean it's girly like the ones we see the girls that this meme refers to wear.
I guess what what other anons who are interested in this would like, is to have a casual girly/feminine J-Fashion thread, with cute frilly outfits that don't necessarily make a co-ord, just a little dressier than normie casual clothes. Outfits that are Himekaji but even more toned down, with black tights or knee highs instead of bare legs, minimum makeup, natural hair, etc...
Kinda like Himekaji but just the base clothes. If that makes sense.

I've never been sub 100lb since I started lifting weights so I'm not sure what would happen to my boobs currently, but as a 5'0 90lb 16 year old I had small C cup boobs - 28C, which is basically flat and would look smaller than your 32B.

It depends. Medically speaking there is not "thin" or "thick" but underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese. While normal weight being best of them, I wouldn't say underweight people look better than overweight, especially unclothed.
Also while 100 lbs has possiblity being in normal weight range, 90 lbs is most definately underweight.
