I browse both. End up at /fa/ a little more frequently, even if it reeks of testosterone. Wish they had better threads about women's fashion other than posting modelfus and the same inspo pictures over and over but it is what it is.

I respect their worship of Karl Lagerfeld. Other than that, their women's fashion threads are terrible.

We share the same passion for clothing, but the styles we like are wildly different. Plus, they're anonymous boards with each their own distinct culture.

So while there is mutual understanding of why we spend hundreds of dollars/hours on aesthetics, it's REALLY hard to keep a thread alive: the majority of people will decide to ignore the thread because the aesthetic is too boring/extreme, the bored trolls will shitpost, and the people who should know better will fling shit back to the trolls.

There is definitely potential on /cgl/ and /fa/ sharing threads on a few specific topics, such as art/animation/etc. that have intersectionality with fashion, or substyles where there is some shared aesthetic — for example, military lolita and gothic lolita seem to be "closest" to what the user base of /fa/ would like, and frankly I would like to see those threads more frequently on /cgl/.

I'm also sure there's some /fa/ people who would like more quality threads on androgynous/feminine wear. And there are definitely some gulls who appreciate when pieces of normie fashion advice get dropped, like learning their color season (here's a link: http://galadarling.com/article/fashion-help-for-recovering-goths/).).

I have an friendship with an /fa/ guy and we frequently share links about our recent purchases, talk about the agony of buy-or-not for specific items, and a few times convince the other party to just buy the damn thing if you're so obsessed (the most recent purchases being men's mesh underwear and a blouse). A few gulls in past threads disclosed that they had a relationship with an effay IRL and reported it as very enjoyable.

I think this is a case where an IRL meeting one-on-one has huge potential for productive discussion and sharing notes. But for two anonymous online boards each set in their own culture, it's ripe for shitposting.

I had a friend from /fa/ once, I don't remember how we began talking about 4chan, but he was chill. He would tease me from time-to-time for being a seagull.

Other than that, cgl x fit x fa threads are almost always cringe worthy.

/fa/ made me realize I should just crossdress, male fashion is boring as fuck.

Now I wear a sweater-dress and tights around the house and it looks cute as fuck, and tights are now my favorite thing for how comfy they are.

And somehow it ain't a men's thing, screw that. Pretty sure they don't even like cargo pants/shorts, which is the thing I do like about guy clothes.

Yes. There is a definite difference in quality with designer clothing compared to H&M or Levi's for example. It's not the durability that accounts for its cost so much as it is the design, material, fit, craftsmanship, etc. which is always better than what you'd find at chain store shops. The limited (seasonal) availability and unique style is also another factor contributing to the relatively high costs.

There are many reasons for the high markup of designer brands. Materials, construction, the design itself, availability, the name, a lot of factors go into the MSRP of an item. These prices become a lot more justifiable imo when you look at artisanal designers and the amount of work that goes into what they produce.

Thankfully sales are a thing; not many people on /fa/ pay retail for their items.

So there's literally no reason to get those. Durability and the materials are the only qualities that you should be paying for as long as you look good. Paying 100-150 bucks for a quality made cashmere sweater is perfectly fine. Paying 1500 for essentially the same sweater with a brand name glued to it and some minor meme design alterations made is not.

The only "fashion" item that I find to have any fucking sane relation of cost vs quality is boots, and very often functional boots for hiking, the cold or mountaineering. If you pay north of 100 bucks for one of those, often times they'll last so long that you'll have to get them resoled up to thrice before throwing them away; ten years down the line!

Price means quality, to a point. I recommend applying the 20-80 rule. 20 percent of X is responsible for 80 percent of Y. In this case, 20% of the effort gets you 80% of the quality. And since I just said that the 200 bucks Lowas already would survive the next ice age, I don't see the point to pay an extra 800 bucks to get those extra 20% of quality.
