>UNDER FALL JUSTICE announced a full-length album, Minikui Kyozetsu (醜い拒絶), to be released this year when they joined Starwaves Records in May. That in itself was some pretty exciting news coming from the band, but there’s something extra to look forward to, especially if you like collaborations; included in the album is a very cool sounding cover of La’Mule‘s 2000 hit, Knife (ナイフ), and the special guest collaborator is none other than Kon (紺) himself (the ex-vocalist of the now disbanded La’Mule)! He’ll be lending his vocals to the chorus of the song. Such a guest is fitting for a band who theatrically sings about depressing concepts such as, death, darkness, self-harm, suicide, and many other unpleasant things. You can get a feel for the album by listening to the preview the band recently published.

Absolute and utter hype.

Oshare is indeed the more fashionable, trendy side of visual kei.
Not necessarily happier or less depressed (and for that matter, not all VK bands are necessarily dark/depressive). They follow a more street style, so to speak, rather than a theatrical or exaggerated style like Mizer or DEG.
It started in early 00s and I think one of the first bands that was labeled as oshare was baroque.

Insanity Injection is definitely not mainstream...they're very niche gothic neo-kote. Nobody who doesn't remember Aliene Ma'riage doesn't really care about Insanity Injection (in the West at least).

First time seeing a VK thread here, and posting so idk if they have been discussed sometime before but: opinions on R-Shitei (R指定)? I always felt they were trying to be edgy with Japanese extreme right nationalism. But sound-wise, they're actually very nice, I have to admit. I remember reading somewhere that their live shows have a borderline creepy nationalist vibe too.

National Japanese WWII uniforms do bother me, the same way Nazi uniforms bother me, though. But it's kind of personal, as my grandparents experienced the war (and the asshole Japanese of the WWII along with it) in Southeast-Asia. I don't even mind the imperial flag, but man, you can't expect me to like you if you are dressed like that. So lol yes it does hurt people in 2016 if it's extreme right. But like I said, 'trying to be edgy', they do it because they think it looks cool it controversial. A type of ignorance that indeed isn't new to visual kei. The only difference is that most bands I know don't base their image around it, and with r-shitei I keep getting the feeling they push their nationalistic image to the border of extreme right nationalism. And with the WWII uniform shoot they just went straight over it, obviously.

Anyway, I don't have specific links besides the usual stuff on youtube. I'm not sure which songs you're already familiar with?

Context is key, my fellow anons. I'm not censoring anything, but I'm just not joining the edge train here. It's good to have healthy criticism, and not be biased all the time just because it's VK. Being biased seems more like living in a bluepill world, after all. I've been in the VK scene since 2004, so I know my likes and dislikes in the genre by now. That said, I do have to admit that generally the shock value in VK is getting more 'meh' to me these days. I guess I'm just getting too old. Still a fan of the sound, though. Also like I said with r-shitei, I think they are very good sound wise.

You act like costumes cannot hurt people's feelings. Go wear a KKK costume in an American black neighborhood. Or maybe just straight up wear a Nazi uniform in Europe (real Europe, not the UK). See what will happen. If you cannot understand that these kind of things provoke people, then you are the autistic one, dense anon.

And if someone finds something offensive, it's not in your right to tell them they aren't. I'll happily wreak havoc here if people think they can hush my rights on that. I already said, I don't like it, because it hurts ~feelings~ the nice way. You could have left it at that, but noooo....

And how the fuck is it even censoring anything? You act like any of us who speak ill of Axis Powers WWII uniforms have signed up some petition to make VK artists stop wearing that. We haven't, we just say that we don't like it. And that's what we call: an opinion.

Now stop being dense for crying out loud.

Im probably not the best person to give an answer but, when I started, I sort of just picked a style I liked. I love a lot of draped clothing. So I started from there and just sort of built onto that. You can also get brand clothes that will work well. I buy a lot of Sex Pot Revenge clothes. But there are a lot of other brands out there as well.
As for makeup, just practice. Its all about picking something and just playing around with it. Sit in front of a mirror and just apply makeup. Eventually you will get something you like. Just takes time.

You may have to let the staff know which band you were coming to see. Even if you don't have one in particular, just pick a band, as the band will get credit for you. You may stand in front for your band, but let other people stand in front for theirs. If you do not have a particular ban you're a fan of, then just enjoy somewhere in the middle or back. They will do all the furi too, so if you are in the front, it's wise to know the furi of your band. If you don't know it, then bluff by mimicing everyone around you.

And less but not least, if you are a girl and you want to get attention from a male VK artist: dress cute, rather than like one of them. They are still Japanese guys, and Japanese guys have a thing for cute girls. This is why all those other girls you'll see at the venue also look cute, rather than wearing the same cool VK fashion as their idols. When I went to the AREA for the first time back in 2008 to see some VK live show, I was so surprised btw that all the girls looked cute. My sister and I were totally dressed in cool VK style, and we totally looked like some outsider gaijins. Good times.

Sorry for the late response, but you're welcome! As for furi, I guess what >>9177232 mentioned works. To be honest, I bluffed my way through by mimicking so far. At least when I attended the AREA another time with my friend to a concert of her fave band (I was only moderately fan of them). The first time and second time of going, me and the person I was with actually didn't went for any band in particular, so we didn't stand in front/did furi. It is a nice way to get to know some new VK bands btw. I would always recommend VK fans to go there and see some bands, even if you don't know them.

Oh and yes some VK bands do crazy things hae, I know you have this front row for headbangers, and whilst this one fan was arching her back over to head bang, the vocalist just stood on her back with his foot. The fan seemed to like it, though.

>> No.9187774

The con staff talked shit about Versailles. Last time I ran into two staffers at a booth they had at my local con, they both groaned when they saw my shirt and talked about how Versailles were divas and difficult guests because the year they played there the concert got delayed until midnight due to technical issues.
Believe me, I suffered through being shuffled into an emergency stairwell with 50+ other people for HOURS without a single word as to what was going on and the only people that did anything to help us in that hot-ass stairwell was the promoter for the band and DJ SiSeN who personally visited each stairwell (there were three I think?) that they had herded us into to get us out of the way in the halls. The staff themselves didn't do shit but happily let Versailles take the blame for what turned out to be a miscommunication with THEIR staff that resulted in a piece of audio equipment not being there for the concert.
The staffers I spoke to over the years have all but turned it into Vic McDick levels of "These guests were so bad!" legends regarding Versailles but I had a friend on press who was in the concert room the entire time and confirmed afterwards that it had been due to AUSA's staff not having the equipment the band had specifically said they needed and my friend's boss who was an audio guy and ran his own radio station ended up stepping in to try and find a solution.
The concert was several hours late and when the doors opened the ravers thought it was for them and staff made no attempt to convince anyone otherwise so it was a shitshow until the concert started because ravers were shoving their way up front ahead of everyone who had waited.
The band themselves did the best they could but I was pretty tired and cranky by then so I didn't stick around past Kamijo having yet another issue with AUSA staff not telling them shit and nearly destroying a girl's camera because he was under the assumption that NO PHOTOGRAPHY was allowed as -c

>> No.9187778

Well the cancelled NYC show was caused by the Mexican Promoter. They cut contact with the American Promoter a week before the show. Then the Mexican Promoter just cancelled the show because apparently they didn't sell enough tickets. But from what I've heard from fans, plenty of tickets were sold, and there was no reason to cancel the shows.

>> No.9187783

>>9187774
the band had requested but once again AUSA decided otherwise and didn't tell the band that they were allowed press photography for the first few songs so Kamijo went into the audience and snatched a girl's camera from her within the first two songs. He was visibly pissed off since they filmed the whole thing on the big screen.
From what I heard later on from the promoter (that I knew casually) and my press friend, they had no idea photography had been allowed for short time and weren't told until after and they felt really bad and brought the girl back to their suite and apologized properly and did an interview for her since she had gotten a press badge for some sort of project she was working on? She confirmed later on that it had been a misunderstanding and she didn't blame them and had been super excited to meet everyone.
The band also stuck around after the concert which was well past 12-1am at that point and signed autographs even though they looked exhausted. I vividly remember it because it was just a bit before Jasmine You died and they looked so thrilled to meet everyone and shook everyone's hands despite how late it was. Makes me sad just thinking about it since no one knew they were probably in such pain even at that point.

But yeah, AUSA doesn't really have the best track record back then with Jrock acts since a year or two after that I walked into a 12012 concert and saw maybe a grand total of 35 teen girls in there that didn't even cover 1/3 of the space that Versailles had filled before. This was also after what's his name in the group had been arrested for choking a woman.

Forgot to mention that after AUSA staff let Versailles take the blame for the rest of the con due to rumors for everything from "Versailles is refusing to play!" to "Kamijo says he won't sing until everything is perfect!" (which was sort of true, the band didn't want to put on a half-assed show where you couldn't hear the guitars) AUSA finally printed an online apology saying it was their fault after the band got shittalked online until the truth came out.

Kamijo snatching the camera from someone in the audience seems to be a thing already. I have seen him doing it and it was both hilarious and terrifying at the same time. The fact they apologized to the girl is really sweet though.
Thanks for sharing the story.

>>9187778
Maybe they weren't expecting to sell that many tickets and didn't have the place reserved in advance?
That one happened to them in Chile for the 2011 World Tour,
Chilean promoter announced a nice theater for the live, and changed it to a small discoteque a few weeks before the show. Turns out they never talked with the theater's staff before. At least the show wasn't cancelled that time, but yeah, fans were pretty andgry and dissapointed and the band probably felt the same way too.

I have heard that Kamijo can get a little annoying for the staff sometimes, he seems to be a little bit of a diva and wants everything to be perfect even in the smallest details, but you have to give the guy the credit he deserves, their shows are amazing exactly because of how much of a perfectionist he is.

So when con goers asked where the concerts, signings, panels, or VIP event was the staff would have no clue who the fuck they were talking about. I had to help several people find the right places to go. Hell some people missed the concert entirely because they changed concert times. But in the end Kaya was so happy to meet his fans. I just hope he comes back to the East Coast sometime soon.

So is there like an English language blog/website that posts tour info of loads of bands and does the legwork for you?

Im trying to do the same thing. I have a few friends who are interested in joining me.

Im just so sick of promoters not doing enough at a con to sell the band. Like, have the damn band at the booth to sell merch. Make con exclusive merch, and make sure everything gets done on time. I think almost anything would be better than what we get with VK bands now a day's.

The second furi is so cute. I hope I come across them at a live now. Are they Tokyo based?

I'm trying to learn Avanchick's furi now since I have a ticket to an upcoming show. I also have a ticket for Nocturnal Bloodlust, but I get the feeling they're not a furi kind of band.

They're absolutely fantastic and known for their charity work as well. They're constantly traveling being the love warriors from outer space as they are but it looks like they performed last month in Tokyo a lot. Here's their live information: >http://uchusentainoiz.com/live/ and they're headed to Osaka and Nagoya soon? Google translate is messing up the page for me, sorry.

I'd love to see them perform in Japan since the audience already knows the furi and it's a completely different atmosphere but they've performed a TON at a con I go to frequently (and now am a minor staffer at) and they've wanted to go back so I'm hoping they'll invite them again since it's been a few years since their last appearance. Aah, it'll be hard to be professional though because one of the rules is we're not allowed to interact with guests and NOIZ is an amazing set of guests who routinely just wander off in the hotel and hang out in the lobby and talk to fans and everything without hesitation. They also bring their own fans from Japan with them as part of a tour package? and there's always the same two hardcore girls with them that are sweet as they can be and gifted some NOIZ cosplayers autographed polaroids of the band that the band had given them.
The best part is during concerts the band's faces absolutely light up if you know the furi at their convention concerts. My friend and I learned the furi from the third video (Sentimental Dropkick) the first time they came and the leader, Angel Taka, got so excited and kept pointing at us the entire time and dancing with us.

If you have the chance to go see them, I 1000% recommend it because they are utterly fantastic. They tour their asses off going to the Philippines and a lot of other places like rural villages to bring charity funds and supplies to village children. They even had a song/PV about their toothbrush charity where fans could bring toothbrushes for children who had no access to dental health facilities.

Got a part of it translated (credit goes to Wandering Fox from -scape- forums):

Interviewer: And Malice Mizer?

Tetsu: Oh yeah, Malice Mizer. (Hahaha) One of the guys from my part time job was in it. He’s the kind of guy who cares a lot about his image so I can’t say where we worked. I was 18 and we used to hang out before that job. When he started working on a new band, he asked me, “Want to come sing?” I said “Yeah, sure.” and that world was created. It was fun, kind of like a culture fair. We made our own plans, because it was a completely unknown world to me. They wrote the music, and I wrote the lyrics and the melodies. It was interesting, like working a puzzle. We members were all good friends. Each concert was like a culture festival and I thought it was fun, but as we got more popular and when we decided on our major debut, I thought, “Is this the face I want to show the world?” On the verge of that debut, I ended up quitting, but pictures from back then keep popping up on the net… (hahahaha) So I guess the world is seeing that face anyway.

Interviewer: And rise of the age of the internet…

Tetsu: I didn’t think this would happen. I might not have wanted to quit. (Hahahaha)

Interviewer: And if you hadn't quit, Gackt wouldn't have entered into this world.

Tetsu: I guess so. I had a feeling that I really couldn’t go on, though. The debut was this huge thing, but I was starting to think that the makeup thing was getting more and more shallow. Speaking to the extreme, there’s a band called KISS, but when they want to return to normal, they have to lose their makeup. When I looked at the other members of Malice Mizer, they were absolutely just like that (hahahaha) and I remember thinking, “I’m just so different from them.” I talked about it with the members and it was like, “You can sell well if you’re like this, but I think I’ve got to separate from you guys, and I should do it sooner rather than later.” That was 20 years ago. I haven’t really brought that up in interviews before. This might be the first time. It probably easier to just do it.

I remember reading an even sadder interview where Tetsu remembered when Malice Mizer was doing their first Budokan (I think for Merveilles), and he was working a night shift on some food place or something, getting wet outside because of the rain.

At least he's still doing music though, and the music he likes since he's the main composer for nil and junejulyaugust, but indeed would have been nice to have had Tetsu record the other Malice Mizer songs before he left. We got some of them san by Gackt (Ma cherie, Shi no butou), but there are a lot of other songs that are really amazing and I consider MM classics, but were never recorded professionally. At least we have a lot of bootleg recordings.

What a hivemind. I was listening to Never Ending Story yesterday and whas wondering if Fumihiko counts as VK.

I've seen King-Show featured on magazines like Fool's Mate and what not. But they seem to be from around the time VK was still in diapers.
Early King-Show was more punk/new wave/post-punk, then when Fumihiko joined they went for a more heavy metal route (while still maintaining their quirks thanks to Kenji). Fumihiko seems to be influenced by hair metal bands and glam.
Another band that has a glam virtuoso guitarist is The Alfee, an even older band from the 70s.

Also, King-Show was and still is a great influence for the angura scene. Bands like Mucc, cali=gari, metronome, etc are all King-Show fans.

I think the real label for King-Show would be "nagomu kei", since they were part of the legendary Nagomu label when they started. In general nagomu bands were the main influence for the angura scene. And is also said that nagomu gals are the predecessors of the lolita fashion. So it's all connected.

I'd say Kenji is one of the most visual guys I've seen.

I had some friends who went. They were telling me it should of been called "We are Yoshiki" rather than "We are X".

>I had some friends who went. They were telling me it should of been called "We are Yoshiki" rather than "We are X".

It is true though. A good majority of the focus was on Yoshiki. Everyone else was in too, but not to the extent of Yoshiki. Toshi talked about his childhood with Yoshiki, his leaving & return from the cult. I really would've wished that Pata & Heath spoke more since they only talked about hide & how long they've know Yoshiki for.

>mfw hearing Pata & Heath speaking a bit English & Japanese in movie
>HOLY SHIT THEY CAN TALK?!

With how Kozi and Yu~Ki have reunited with Mana for some of his shows, it makes me hope they reunite MM with Tetsu back as the vocalist.

>> No.9233325

Lol, there are people who were hoping Kamijo to be the next vocalist of MM because he performed with them also. MM isn't coming back.

>> No.9233360

>>9233325
You're right that they'll probably never put a new album, but MM has come back for live shows, but they're always missing an original vocalist. I wouldn't mind seeing Kamijo perform with Kozi, Yu-ki, and Mana. I'm jealous I missed out.

Same, he would work great for a neo-merveilles era Malize Mizer.
Not sure if that's what Mana would aim for though.

Just to make it clear, Kamijo never actually performed with Malice Mizer.
He did, however, participe on a session band o the first Dis Inferno (or maybe it was the 2nd), where Mana played drums and they did MM's Baroque. Kamijo sang along with Sanaka (ex-fatima/Moran), the reason being both Kamijo and Sanaka were MM roadies during Tetsu times.

That would be cool to see. I remember seeing MM live and there was a sign with information about Kamijo and MDM featured at the venue, but for the life of my I couldn't decipher the kanji fast enough to know what it meant.

They aren't really popular. I know they have an ok overseas following. They are signed to V-Star promotions so there is hope they might come over someday. Also V-Star makes it really easy to get their merch

Surprisingly they are! They held a free show recently, but you had to reserve so they knew how many people were coming. They sold out! I'd love to see them perform, but their interviews are kind of hard to watch sometimes.
