the guy and the girl looked really fucking awesome. Their cloths worth more then all of my kit, armour included. Silk and brocade everywhere. Although they only wore those cloths at the first day where most people were still arriving, the rest of the days they changed into different cloths when fighting were involved and stuff so the nice ones won't get dirty (I think the nice cloths were the ones they wore when they married)
But their change cloths were awesome too.
Basically they were styling on everyone in the most stylish camp.

>>9135979
polearm is a must have for everyone, even for the sappers. The only exception is for the shield users and some officers can get away with two handed swords.
Other camps doesn't really have that much polearms and especially not on a group level.
There is/was a spanish tercio on the blue camp but in 2017 they will join us and will bring arabesques allegedly

It's the correct way sometimes but you absolutely give no clue about what kind of vampire you want to play on what larp, what do you want to do with it, what are your crossbow and pistol options, etc.
It's like just asking "Red or Blue?" without any more pointers.
Do you honestly think this will give you any meaningful answer?
And if you just can't decide and it's all the same, then you might as well just throw a coin

Well its pretty simple to make torso armor for a greek and there are many nice helmets out there. Helmets really help distinguish your character.

On the shield topic I want to let you know that a real hoplite shield is not the very best for one on one. A smaller shield with the grips more central works better.

Alright so there are a couple trains of thought.

First buying one will never turn out well. You cant really get it to your measurements(which is super important for how you can move in it) you cant decorate it how you wish. Also you cant really tell the quality online.

Now making one is a bit difficult. You can go the historic route and make one out of quilted linen. Which takes a lot of time.

You can also make one out of leather. Which might be expensive.

Or you can just get something that looks historical but isnt actually. For that I use glued pieces of muslin. A very cheap fabric. You can buy a whole roll of it for about 40 bucks and make 2/3 sets of armor.

Here is it layed out. Its pretty simple. You have the base which is the part that wraps around you. The first layer with the pteruges(dangly bits), second layer of them behind the first, and the shoulder piece that covers your neck and is the part that holds it up.

Now you dont need the second layer. Examples have been found with only one row and the pteruges can also be different styles.

So before we get into the actual building how much can you spend?

>> No.9138081

>>9137956
I'm not too worried about price, since I can just take longer and save up. So really anywhere from $300 - $500 is perfectly do able

Well thats good.
-Scales can cost extra
-rings can cost extra
-material changes cost as well
-then you have dyes and paint

So first lets talk about design.

The tube part which goes around your body is pretty standard. You can either have a double breasted model. Where there is an extra panel in the front(#3) but that isnt really usefull since you wont actually be attacked with real weapons. So you can just have a simple lighter version if you want.

Next are the pteruges (dangly bits)
These can be very different depending on what you want. To be historical looking you can have one or two layers of them. Two layers looks better and you get a short and long protection that overlaps. If you choose one layer you can have thick ones (#3) or thin ones like (1,2 ,4,5,6). Thick ones are easier to make and take less time. Now how many you make depends on how wide. 1-1.5 inches is good for thin strips and 4-5 are good for larger ones, but you can do what feels comfy. Now you can make them floppy (less fabric) or stiff (more fabric). Either is historical. Now on every historical depiction I can find they only go right past the genitals or above. Not longer. Now reasons for this vary but the main one you should know is that you cant sit down properly if they are too long. But if you make them longer you get more protection for your genitals and upper thighs. Now for the shape you can make them square at the bottom or rounded, your choice.

The next part is the yoke or the part that goes over your shoulder and holds it up. The end that ties to the tube can be different shapes. This can be rounded (#5) or square (#1,2,4,) or pointed (#6). This can go lower (#1) or high (#4)

Now the neck can go unguarded or you can make a gorget (#3).

You may also put scales anywhere on it. They be square(#4) or rounded (#2,6). They can be only on the sides (#4) or all around (#2) or a only off on the middle (#6). You can even put them on the yoke(pic not represented)

P1/many

9138168

>>9138131
Another important part is where you will tie it. You make the open side where you tie it the side where you hold your shield so the unbroken part shows. Historically its only fastened with two points but you can use three if you dont care all that much since it will be more secure.

Next you will need the points where you fasten it on the front. You can choose one central point for both arms (#1)or one for each (the bottom two on this picture). To fasten them you can use something fancy like ring pulls used for drawers or just plain steel rings like I did.
You can place these either high or low depending on whatchu want.

Now the second set of pteruges will be sewn on and that is why there is a border at the bottom. You can forgo this but it doesnt look as nice and the upper border is to hide the ring pulls.

The yoke part also usually has some design strip to hide sewing marks. I just used a staple gun to put it together and it works great.

Now for the actual design of the body tube. You can have either simple straight edges or curved ones. The curved fit the body better and the straight are just easier to make. Your choice. Now for the yoke you can make the arms straight or curved. Curved sits better but straight works just fine.

Now all you need to do is get measurements and make a cardboard rough draft.

The tube part is from your collarbones to your waist. The pteruges are from there down as far as you want. Its pretty simple to cut out.

Now here are the pieces to cut out of cardboard. 3 pieces. The yoke, tube, and pteruges. You can put one row of pteruges (the shorter row) on the bottom of the tube and make one piece or not. The measurements will be hard for me to help with since its for your body. But i hope you dont have too much trouble. Just play around with the cardboard till you find what works

No problem man. If you have anymore quesitons ask away.

https://www.uwgb.edu/aldreteg/Linothorax.html

This site has a little video on it about making it.

So if you want it out of leather you just get leather pieces the sizes you need and if you want it out of fabric just buy a bunch of fabric. Cut the fabric to the right shape and glue a bunch of layers together. Too thick wont bend easily and too thin will be flimsy.

If this slacker (me) at 17 can make this then you definitely can.

Panaltoke's swords have a really good quality/price value imo

I wish i got a blowjob behind a dumpster when i was a hobo for 2 weeks last month.
(The marvelous misadventures of Frenadian) a.k.a. That time when i had 2 week to kill time before moving and decided to see how it was to live in the streets.

Funfact: i now live at a 30min ride from all my larps, it wasnt planned its just an added bonus.
So instead of a 3h ride its a 30min one.
That makes larping waaaay more fun.

(Concerning the hobo ride)
It may sound weird but if you have an extra week try it, dont ask anyone for money. Live with your own but just what you brougth. Get hungry, get scared at nigth, talk to the people you dont feel comfortable looking at.
You learn a lot about the real you when you push yourself to some limits.

But at the same time im probably just a drugged up dude with a deathwish on 4chan so you probably should never do what i tell you to.

I hate to break this down to you but that's way to common in hungary.
Me and a few of my friends still has the viewpoint that some really douchbag people just needs one month in their life when they don't have money for even food, that would be probably a life changing experience for them, hopefully for the better

Took my brother three years to wear his first palnatoke set of swords out, with a good amount of sparring in between larps.

Can't really get any better than those.

I hope this isn't off topic for thread but I was hoping someone who has been involved with or knows of the Warhammer 40 larps could tell me how people make such nice lasguns. I've seen a couple guides for turning nerf guns into something that looks like a lasgun but nothing I really want. I also don't want to turn to etsy.
