I'm moving this summer and might be getting a home with an extra room to deck out and make mine. I'm really excited ! I think I'm going to make it entirely my lolita/vanity room plus put my cute collectibles in there (nendoroids magical girl stuff, other toys,)
I live with my husband so I've never been able to make my bedroom a pink paradise like I've wanted.

Sorry, I made my post as /r9k/ as possible to see what the responses were like to get a better grasp of what people are like around here.

I actually have a gf who is into lolita dresses but she is very self-conscious about it to the point that without encouragement she will never wear her dresses. I think I could show her this board for her to browse, since cosplay and lolita stuff is her passion.

Thanks for your time, and pardon my deception.

Gosh.

I remember being mocked and hated for liking Sailor Moon when I was younger. To the point that if people found I had merchandise from it, they stole it and destroyed it. Then again, small towns are like that. Just visiting my parents a few months ago, some guy called me Tinkerbell and yanked at my hair to see if it was a wig. I was removed from the public bus for giving him a black eye.

Anyone else wary of exposing their interests in small towns?

I wanna get a loft bed. me and my boyfriends appartment is pretty small, so it would give a lot of needed space for storage and stuff
Only problem is that my boyfriend doesn't really want one. He's a bit chubby, and really tall, so he weighs quite a bit, and he's afraid that the bed wont hold and whatever
Does anyone have experience with similar problems? Like, how durable is loft beds usually? What models would work best? Are there any ways to make the bed more "safe"?

They are usually rated for a safe weight limit so you + boyfriend + bedding, pillows etc = under the limit. But if his feet usually stick out on a normal bed (many tall guys hang their feet over) then he won't like a loft bed because you usually can't.
Also one person has to sleep on the inside and climb over the other if they want to get out of bed.
Why not get a wall bed instead if you need to save space?

You need white furniture! I wonder if you could get taller, thinner bookshelves as well (not sure how tall your ceilings are, but start by measuring the entire space). There are LOTS of tutorials on how best to utilize tight spaces on Pinterest.
The black shelves are constricting your space. If they were white, it would open the room up a bit further. Maybe some mirrors and fairy lights?

Makoto is my husbando. I love that pillow. The banana pillow looks so comfy!

>> No.9092187

>>9091858
Not sure how amenable you are to the idea but I always felt like figures look better in a "work" area (e.g. office or game room) because those spaces tend to lend themselves better to displays, whereas a bedroom is a more active space. If you have an area like that then perhaps consider migrating the majority of your figures there? If not, you could store some of them and rotate as desired. I do this with my posters whenever I have the urge to redecorate

>>9092160
I have that banana pillow and it is indeed very comfy thanks to its shape, and wonderfully cool (temperature) as well.

You can build up support with lofts. The great thing about them is that they are versatile. Reinforce your loft with planks. Go on Pinterest and explore! For example, I quite liked this idea as reinforcement which also works as a ladder: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/350366045989807789/

This is what I'm thinking. It's more like a "grown-up" bunk bed but put it right up against the wall, paint it white, bam. Those beams are pretty thick. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/341710690456518359/

Well, first of all we can't drill or anything, second of all, I'd like to maybe have my desk or an extra closet or something under the loft bed, and that would obviously not work if you have to fold the bed down every night

Moving into uni halls in the summer, does anyone have any cute pics or ideas of decorating such a tiny space? Pic is what my room will be

>> No.9092435

I really admire these rooms a lot, but I find myself wondering how these people live in them. Especially for very clutterrd sweet lolita rooms, it just doesn't seem like there's enough room for anything else practical.

I've tried to make my room as cute as I can with my terrible decorating skills, but I still can't manage to make it look fully ~aesthetic~. Like I have a cluttered desk with documents in folders and shit, a full rolling rack with non lolita sewing projects, and general household items that just aren't cute. I wish I could get rid of all this clutter (the desk space bugs me the most) but it's probably better to just be practical, right?

I would assume that some of these people just do their sewing/work in another room, like an office or a study space. Though I'm not sure how that works in small Japanese apartments and the like... Maybe they just have a "cute corner" where its clean and they sleep there and the rest of the room is a mess.

There's also looking into storage solutions/"lifehacks" to try and organize your space better to make it look nicer. It'd also make it easier for you to find stuff at the snap of your fingers. Get some nice shelves, cute-ify it with some lace and heck, maybe even some stickers or some custom painted-on designs if you're brave/artistic enough.

I don't have any tips myself but since they're so popular finding a few articles on good organization ideas couldn't really be hard to find, right? (Honestly I just kind of shove all my stuff into drawers until I deal with it all at a later date so I'm not the person to ask about that stuff lol)

Nah, you just gotta reimagine the rest of your room. Clear out one side of your room, fill it with clothes racks and turn your entire bedroom into one giant wall-to-wall sleep-in closet.

Now that your clothes are out of your tiny closet you can turn your tiny closet into a book nook and enjoy spiders.

It really depends whether you want pastel cute, matching the chair cute, more shabby chic etc. I would do lining paper/removable vinyl sticker/contact paper rather than paint so you can change it. I have a vintage (but mdf, not real wood) sewing cabinet the same colour as your desk and although it kinda matches the rental house which has horrible cream walls, I'm planning to wallpaper or something to make it fit my gothic dreams.

Not that anon but the striped wallpaper would be cute. I don't think the blackboard is a good idea for a number of reasons, one of which being anytime you wanted to draw on it you would have to remove everything on the shelf first, and more importantly, chalk dust would get all over your stuff.

You have a single? It looks like your furniture is built in. I'd get a rug and storage cubes for the top shelf on your desk to help with organization. It looks like you have a lot of desk space so you could even get get a cube on your desk for more shelving if needed. Since your bed is against the wall, you could decorate it with some pillows/plushes so it acts like a couch during the daytime. Not sure if the bedframe will allow it but you might be able to store stuff under your bed as well. Take advantage of adhesive wall hooks to give you more storage space - purses and cute clothes can be hung from them as storage as well as be displayed that way. You could also string some lights up for ambiance. I'd get one of those over the door shoe racks. Get a little rug for the entrance so you're not tracking stuff into your room when you enter.

if you're storing fabric at your desk then perhaps put them in baskets and stack them on the very top shelf, you could store a lot of fabric that way and it's not something you would be accessing frequently (as compared to sewing supplies like scissors and needles) so putting it in a harder to reach place would be OK. My bf and I just moved into our new apartment and surprise surprise we got ugly brown carpet instead of nice white carpet like the apartment unit that we were shown. It totally ruined my plans on how I was going to paint the room and decorate it; our master bedroom is smaller than we thought as well. I want to do one of those nice stylish weeb otaku rooms. Me and my bf are sharing the bedroom obviously and he doesn't want anything pink or purple (He wouldn't mind if it we didn't have his semi-normie guy friends coming over on a regular basis). Don't mind how gloomy the room looks, it's just the lighting. We plan on switching out all of the light bulbs with some nice bright white lighting to make the room less gloomy and depressing. Any ideas what I can work around with this ugly carpet to make it not seem so bad? I mean it's not too bad, but it's just hard to work with such a color.

Was wanting to do this nice green with white shelves and desk like this pic; but the carpet would make it look ugly. I found a tutorial on installing wood on apartment rental carpet but it might cost me a pretty penny. Idk how long we plan to lease this apartment for but I'm pretty sure we'll be staying her for maybe 3 or 3 years so it would be worth $200-$300 for me to spend if we are leasing here that long.

It sounds like you are renting the apartment. I'd be very careful with painting and laying down additional flooring; these might not be allowed per your lease so you'd either have to intentionally violate the terms of your lease (and risk eviction and/or heavy fees) or try to convince your landlord to make an allowance and add a sub-clause or something stating you can make these alterations.

I'm in the area rug camp like >>9097376 and >>9097501. If you want complete floor coverage just so you don't have to look at the brown carpet then you could feasibly get away with a couple smaller area rugs (instead of one huge rug) similar to bottom right in pic.

I think you can make the brown carpet work if you set your mind to it! Try to keep lighter, cool-toned colored furniture and decorations to help offset the dark floor. The nice thing about dark flooring is that it can really make colors pop, so you can use colors strategically to create focal points. Pic is some examples on how colors can look especially pleasing with dark flooring (dropped pic from previous post is included in this one).

Thank you! Surely going to look into the laminated flooring, and hopefully after it's all done be able to finally get this room together. Do you remember the estimate of how much you payed for? I'd have to measure the room, but it's pretty small for a master bedroom. I really love that color green in that pic, it goes really well with all sorts of different lighting.

>>9097806
We talked to the landlord before we moved in about painting and she said it's totally fine, just at the end of our lease we have to paint it back to white. We are still of course going to notify her how and when we plan to do it with the flooring and painting. It's just going to be for our master bedroom really.

Of course if the desk is antique or valuable, don't reprint it.
