This might sound kind of obvious, but most of the pictures I've seen with hime cuts that were styled looked a lot like standard j-fash hairdos. The only difference was that instead of having the thin long pieces next framing the face they had thick long pieces framing the face.

Can your hair "heal"?
I went blonde two years ago, so the lower part of my hair got to see some bleach in its lifetime.
If I now try to dye my hair (which looks okay on the outside and feels soft enough at this point), that lower part wont absorb the color.
It's not too much of a hassle to grow it out but I'd like to know if anyone had a similar experience and then managed to get their hair to be able to be dyed again by treating it well for another year or so.

I'm trying to get subtle-pink ash blonde hair, pretty much exactly the same as pic. I bleached my hair to a very pale yellow, like the inside of a banana, and will tone to ash blonde over the weekend. Could I just dilute the hell out of pravana vivid's magenta or is there too much purple in there?

In my experience, you'll want to go with a peachier color, because toning your hair will usually make it silver/grey and have cool undertones, and you need something with warmer undertones to get the pink/ash effect.
Ion has a pretty good peach, and I would really look into getting some silver lights shampoo for help with toning.

So after one to many bleach sessions my hair is now severely fucked up. I've done coconut masks and I've bought repairing shampoo and conditioner etc but of course it can only do so much.
My hair is about the same length and style as pic related (only its layered a bit) and I'm trying grow it out, but I'm thinking I'll have to just cut it because it looks really bad atm
Could anyone suggest any hairstyles shorter than this, that preferably takes little to no styling (don't want to damage it even more) and would work for J-fashion?

Not really. Hair is dead, all you can do is force it to soak up oils so it seems a little livelier. It probably won't ever act the same as the rest of your hair again. I just lost 4 inches for this reason, rip.
>>9092577
Probably don't fuck with it, especially not with dye. If it's already at two inches, it might look a little more intentional. Have you tried braiding it away from your face?
But you should probably just have it bleached again. Is it a medical concern or a money concern? If it's a money concern, the local cosmetology school here bleaches and tones regrowth for $30.

Hey, I would love any advice on what I should do with my hair. I've asked a lot of my friends and such for opinions but I'm not getting any good answers. At the moment, my hair is dyed a copper-blonde colour (on the left, which was done a good 6 months ago) so it's safe to say m regrowth is pretty bad (honestly, really bad). My natural colour is a dark brown (the right). I also haven't cut it since I dyed it.

Anyway, I need an opinion. Should I bother bleaching my hair again or should I dye it back to my natural colour? My bad if I posted this wrong, I don't post here often!

Personally, If I had your hair but didn't feel like bleaching again, I would have some fun with it and dye it a dark but interesting colour, so that the roots don't look so obvious. I'd use a box dye like palty or prettia in one of the darker ash, purple or pink shades. I just feel like having all that lightened hair and dyeing it back to its normal colour is like a waste. Similar to >>9092911, except I'd just go straight for Manic Panic's brighter colours. You won't be able to avoid the regrowth look, but at least having a purple/green/blue head of hair looks more intentional. Choose a darker colour to further camouflage how dark your roots are, and be sure to match the colour to your wardrobe. If your normie wardrobe can take it you can even try multiple colours.

I'd side part it and undercut one side (possibly plus the back) depending on how thick your hair is, get long side bangs and face framing layers so you can go back to a middle part and hide the undercut if you want for girly stuff but then expose it for more androgynous and edgy styles. I wouldn't put too many layers in it though, and if you have thin and/or fine hair then just do a small undercut and maybe focus on doing one side or something so it looks intentional and not like hair loss

I have an undercut since 6 months Even if I love it and love the feeling to have super short hair on the back, I'm considering to let it grow back to normal. My mom who I thought was supportive, said something not that great about my hair to my aunty. It made me sad. She's one of the few people who's opinion count to me. People said not so pleasant things to me before and I didn't give a fuck.
I have a question, is it difficult to grow an undercut? A bang it's quite easy but I don't know what to expect here. I'm afraid having a short layer of hair underneath is gonna be super weird. Should I do a pixie cut or something?

Solidarity mate. I deal with mine by only washing it a couple times a week, and soaking it in coconut oil on the weekend before I shower. I've also taken to using coconut oil as a leave in rather than conditioner. Works better, and is actually cheaper than the conditioner I was using. Hydration seems to be the best cure. But what works for my hair might not work for yours. Experiment with different oils, argan was the devil for mine, camellia was ok, olive was too heavy, but coconut and my hair get along fine.

I'm not home right now so I can't look up the brand but I'm pretty sure it's some salon brand mousse like redken or whatever. My mom was a stylist so she hooks me up. The pomade is gatsby but I've also used redken which is a little stiffer. You just apply mousse when your hair is damp to the areas you are going to roll. I put a little pomade on my fingertips and work them into the ends and roots for a little extra oomph and staying power. Then you roll it and let it air dry. It's not a "fast" style, I do this to get my hair to dry correctly instead of in wacky directions. It makes any further maintenance easier. When I'm going out I still rely on my flat iron to curl my hair nicely, but for regular day stuff this suffices and is much less damaging.

I'm assuming your natural hair is dark. You could look up what people do when growing out bleached hair. I think coloring your virgin hair a darker shade of the pastel would look nice but that of course involves doing this on your own unless you want to wait a month til your appointment, and will also make it harder for your hairdresser to re-color/bleach (if that's what you plan on doing). I've seen people use hair chalk on the bleached part closest to their roots, it's louder but still looks nice and helps soften the contrast IMO.

I'm in the process of growing out my hair, like the 20th time. It's almost shoulder length now, and I feel like giving up already..

I feel like I just look really ugly with semi long hair, and that actual long hair will look just as bad, so I don't feel like waiting like one or two years more to get it to where I want and then just hate it..

If your hair is shoulder length right now then you probably have an idea of how you will look with longer hair: basically, the same thing except your hair will be a little flatter (less voluminous) looking closer to your scalp due to the weight of your hair, and of course the length will be longer.

I have a feeling that you don't like how longer hair looks because you haven't figured out what hairstyle suits your face best. I had this issue when I got a pixiecut and it took a lot of messing around before I found a style that looked good on me. Try experimenting by parting your hair differently, adding layers, straightening or curling your hair, etc. Look up celebs that have your face shape and see what hairstyles look good on them.

Oh, you have thin hair? Your current hair length is actually around where you want to be for thin hair so I wouldn't grow it out anymore. Long hair usually does not look as good because it makes it more apparent that your hair is fine. My roomies in college have fine hair and things they did to give it more oomph was to use mousse after showering and blowdry upside down. Before we went out, they'd use larger rollers at the top of their head to give it a little extra lift.

Giving your hair texture also helps it look more voluminous - there are texturizing sprays, you can also rock waves. Avoid really wispy ends/layers since it can make your hair look sparser - blunter cuts tend to make hair look fuller. Cameron Diaz has thin hair and if you look at her pictures, styles where her ends are blunter make her hair look full, whereas styles that are really choppy on the ends make her hair look more sparse. You will also notice that she almost always has some kind of curl or wave to her hair to make it look fuller, and a deep part with the thinner side tucked behind her ear.

Here is what happens. I can get it passable for 10-15 minutes and then it goes to shit instantly. Like, just dry as fuck and frizzy and the waves/curls get destroyed :(

I have tried letting the natural oils work and try not to wash it with shampoo/conditioner EVERY day but that didn't help. I've tried a little bit of conditioner and water before I sleep and that kinda helped but not really. I have tried "anti-frizz" spray but that dries out within minutes. I have seen "hair oils" but I don't even know what to do with any of these products.

I don't want straight hair, just the curls and waves to stay together ya know? I have been growing it for only a year and have had short hair my whole life but I like pretty lady hair. If I don't shave I get things like "you girls like a table?" or "welcome ladies" or "maam" all the time. Tickles the fuck out of me.

Dish soap & dandruff shampoo both work fine, they are designed to be very stripping so they will remove at least some color. Haven't tried the Vit C method. If you really need the green to be gone, use a VERY diluted red semi dye as a toner (stressing the "very" because this happened to me and I didn't dilute it enough, it just went red). So, I really like palty hair colors, but according to the internet they're really harsh for white people hair. How can I get the same effect without going to a salon or destroying my hair?
>>9099194
Luckily for you, it's a lot easier to transition from normie to jfash bangs than vice versa. Just draw a triangle with your comb from the sides of your bangs to the center of your scalp. Part so that all of the hair in that triangle is in one cluster and cut it all so it's the length of your current bangs. If your bangs are to thick now, just stop trimming the outer segments of your bangs and let them frame your face instead.
I hope that made sense. My English is shit today.

Palty is as you said very harsh on hair, even on asian hair. If you're going light to dark it should be no problem. The other way round will need lightening. It's best to get it done at a salon or with someone who knows what they're doing because some of those tones won't show if you haven't lightened your hair properly. It's currently pretty long after growing it out (I cut it into a bob last year - it was pink, I spent a weekend partying and TL;DR: it dreaded). this would be considered a himecut at least modern day. Many of us on here have it. I would show them a photo, i brought a few photos in, but i would make sure you kind of have an idea how thick or thin you want them. I think generally you get them cut to your jaw or a bit longer and youll likely have to strighten and curl them daily. Ive gotten a lot of "are you sure you want to (re)cut them" from younger hair dressers especially if youre not near any major cities, so be prepared for them to challenge you.
I looked on instagram for himecut and found a few photos that i liked that weren't model shots.

I have hair down to my lower back. Ive always had a bit of an issue with lack of moisture (my hair will like suck up all water and conditioner when applied so i often need a lot as said by a hairdresser) and it never looking silky or shiny.
Since im wanting to keep it long and healthy ive stopped dying it three years ago and only wash/condition it about twice a week. I dont get my hair wet when i dont wash it. Ive read not washing was better for your hair but my hair just takes so long (4-6 hours) to air dry that its such a burden to wash it more often. If i exercise or sweat heavily Ill wash it more often. I dont blowdry it as well because i heard it damages hair but i noticed when i do my hair feels much much soft and silkier.

I usually will use a salon shampoo and conditioner until it runs out, use a bottle set of store brand and then go back to a salon set of products. I read it was good to switch up products every few months. Usually ill use Paul mitchel tea tree or redkin from salons and change up the store brands. I would go back to redkin (in the green bottle) but to me it started smelling like hemp or something weird.
Does anyone have any suggestions on new salon products i should try?
Ive recently been using argon oil on my damp hair but not every time.

I just want it to be soft and silky like i see other girls hair looking. Also how do girls get their hair to smell nice all day? Ill see girls walk by or flip their hair and get a wiff of it and im sure my hair never does it.

>oily roots, dry ends
I have this problem sometimes and what I found really helps is actually making sure you apply conditioner to only your ends. I flip my hair upside-down in the shower and grab the ends to work the conditioner in. After working it into your ends, with the remaining conditioner that's stuck to your fingers/palms, kinda scrunch at your roots a few times then rinse it all while still upside-down. I also mostly wash my hair with warm/cool water - I'll give it a quick run under hot water (like a couple seconds) then finish rinsing with cool/lukewarm.
Switch up brands every now and then too, I rotate between 3.

If it helps, my usual shower routine is clip up my hair and keep it out of water while I do my shower business, then wet my hair, shampoo, do a quick rinse with hot water then finish with cool, conditioner, quick hot rinse then finish with cool again. My hair is bleached and colored so I basically don't let it touch water unless it needs to.

>>9105867
Try to deep condition your hair every now and then, it sounds like your hair is prone to dryness so a deep condition should help get it feeling silky soft. Paul Mitchell and Redken are good brands, I use those at home along with TIGI. Your hair smells good too right after a wash, you're just "blind" to it because you got used to the smell. My friend and I took a smelly cab once, he picked me up after I had showered. When we got out I commented that it really stunk in there and he told me it was fine after I got in because all he could smell was me.

>>9106110 again, for frizz control here are some tips:
>t-shirt toweling
Apparently the looped fibers from your towel aid to frizz (since they catch onto strands and pull at them), so you should actually use a t-shirt to dry your hair instead. I have not personally tried this but it sounds plausible.

>braid drying
When airdrying, braid your hair first as this helps flatten the cuticle and keeps everything neat. You will obviously have a wave in your hair afterwards, and it takes longer than usual to dry this way.

>cold water washing
Heat opens the cuticle, cold closes it. You want strands to be nice and smooth with closed cuticles for silky hair.

>mousse
Apply while hair is damp. Helps hold everything together.

>blowdry aimed downwards
When blowdrying, point the nozzle downwards. Work slowly, in sections, and use a round boar (bristle) brush. It pushes air in the same direction as the cuticle (so it flattens) and a stiffer bristle helps keep your hair from flying in every direction.

>regular trims
Shouldn't have to explain this. Keep your hair healthy by getting it trimmed regularly.

1) Oily at the top dry at the ends usually means you're shampooing wrong/using the wrong products. Do your hair a favor and get some high-quality clarifying shampoo (I alternate between a clarifying and another high-end shampoo). I've used both Paul Mitchell and Kenra clarifying shampoo (I like Kenra better, it made my scalp feel cleaner).

2) Alterna's Caviar line is an absolute fucking godsend. It's been over a month and I'm still using the shampoo/conditioner samples Sephora gave me and my hair is just perfect. Try to find a good clarifier first because I have a gut feeling you have some gunk from using drugstore (hence, dry ends). I also like Phyto.

3) for a more -ahem- affordable conditioner, I highly recommend Shea Moisture. If I condition first/shampoo the roots with the stuff it gives me a feeling close to the Caviar line; but since you have frizz issues you might need all the conditioning that you can get.

To add what you said, you want to really stress out to them specifically what you want. I went to a salon recently for a hime cut, showed pictures and everything but she cut too much on the sides and more on one side then the other.. You'd think they can work with simple instructions but that's simply not the case and it's definitely not the first time a salon messed up on a haircut I asked for.

I think we have similar hair, i wouldn't say my hair is super silky and shiny but its a lot better than it used to be.
I wash only twice a week, shampoo only my roots and when you wash it out, let it rinse through the rest of your hair. My hair is coloured so i wash in cold water/slightly lukewarm depending on how cold the weather is.
I have also tried frizz-ease and tresemme but i find that the toni & guy reconstructing hair mask works as a conditioner far better. Use a lot extra on your roots and leave it in your hair for as long as you can be patient for, generally i try for 10+ minutes.
On days you want your hair to be nicer, i use Kiehl's silk groom serum. Depending on how thick/long your hair is, you will likely need to use more than the 1 pump they recommend which can be a bit pricey. I find that its very non greasy and leaves my hair just the bit more smooth and silky on the ends.

ok seagulls, I am going to a color consultation this weekend, and I'm getting anxious thinking about the price. Now I know she is going to give me an estimate, but I don't want to go in unaware.
I have virgin ass length hair that I am going to have them cut about a foot off and then dye into a lavender ombre. My hair is currently a light brown (lighter then pic related) and I will see if she thinks it will be more flattering with the roots darker because I'm undecided.
How long on average do you think it will take? They charge by the hour, and I'm budgeting for 2-3 but is that realistic?

>> No.9113960

>>9113881
Nope, I think you're looking at more like 4-5 for that length of hair. Cut alone will probably be half an hour, then they'll probably need to lighten your hair to get the lavender in (unless you're naturally pale blonde, most hair needs lightening for lavender), and then do the ombre and wait for that processing time, plus or minus darkening your roots. So you're looking at 2 dye jobs in one rather than one which is the usual 2-3 hours.

Cool, thank you for the info.
That pushes it a bit out of my price range...but they do offer a free haircut if you donate the hair, and I want to cut it so much anyway I may as well cut off the few extra inches and rock a bob for a bit if it will save me cash haha. Though I feel that may be exploiting the system I will have to see if they are down with it.

I got my hair colored for the first time from black/dark brown to brown. I thought I would have it bleached first but it was a one-step process where she just applied the product on and washed it out. Avoid hair above your shoulders or full larme style bangs; I don't think they'd frame your face well. If you want to add texture to your hair, stick to "beachy" waves or just keep it straight. Your current color is pretty flattering, so if you 2ant to dye it, try an ombre or subtle highlights or keep it warm and about the same level of darkness.

It will fade a little bit lighter, but watch out make sure this fade is even and that you don't get too brassy. She probably applied a color which has a 10volume developer in it. (This is the strength that most box dyes have.) For most hair colors this strength won't give you "lift" to a lighter color shade, but it does remove some of your natural color and makes the hair more receptive to dye. Give it a week or two of showers and see if you like it. If it's still too dark or strange, complain.

It depends. Dandruff can be caused by a few different things: oily scalp, dry scalp, or a skin infection (I think it's fungal?). Most dandruff shampoos are designed to treat the fungus, so if you've tried multiple dandruff shampoos and they haven't worked, it's probably something else. I used to have dandruff because of a dry scalp and cowashing helped a lot.

anyone have cute inspo pics or suggestions for hair cuts that can be worn down that are low key cute (still kinda normie)
i recently got a new job and my hair has to be down at all times with no extra hair clips or bobby pins and for the past few years ive been wearing my hair up or with bows/clips pretty much everyday so im really out of my element
(ive already saved all the medium hair pics, thank you anon!)

second question: slightly related
how do you cut the rest of your hair when you have bangs? do you layer it or leave it long or just try not to touch it? should your face shape have any bearing on the decision?

>> No.9121253

>>9121241
to answer your second question, I would say it's all up to preference. Do you think your heir looks better long, layered, short, etc...? What looks best on you/makes you feel good? Face shape does change the aesthetics, but you should be able to tell yourself what is most appealing. If you're going to have a job where you can only wear your hair down, also consider how much effort you put into your hair. If you don't do anything with long hair, it can look messy whereas short hair can be easily cool and casual. Although, if you have long hair you can do more things with it (like curling, pulling off a more sophisticated look, etc) when short hair is already limited enough as it is with the use of hair clips, pins, and so on.

It really just comes down to: What fits your face best? What makes you feel best? And, to what extent are you willing to put effort/time into your hair?

(also, how long is your hair now?)

ultimately, i think straight or slightly curved bangs with no layering looks the cutest regardless of the texture of the rest of the hair (straight, wavy, curly, w/e) however a lot of articles ive read about oval face shapes suggest layering it to break up the length of your face
i also think bangs with no layers look a lot better on hair longer then mine, so it can balance out how heavy the bangs are with the length of the rest (which is why im considering extensions)

ill sell my soul to anyone who has a trick they swear by to give hair volume when it refuses to hold a curl.
currently it only curls at the ends on its own. upwards for whatever fucking reason
pic related was straightened before i left for work ~2 hours before photo was taken
its a little bit below shoulder length right now but i plan on growing it out/possibly getting extensions soon for the sake of the job, though the curling at the ends has me worried about how well it would work with extensions

should i let it be till i try extensions? ive never had extensions before but im assuming i'd have to layer my hair so they would blend in and it would probably be easier for the stylist to start with a "fresh slate"

any other tips, styling or haircut ideas would be super appreciated!

Yes! I have a round face as well as a hime cut, and the short strands fall at chin length. It doesn't exaggerate the roundness at all. (Which was pleasantly surprising to me, it's the best haircut I've ever had.)

What type of hairbrush is suitable for a sensitive scalp, with long, fine hair that tangles easily? I'm currently using a paddle brush, that has lots of plastic bristles. Would a boar bristle brush be more suitable, or would my hair benefit from a wooden brush?

I'd just like to say thank you; I have tried an oil massage treatment in the past, but as it didn't work for me, and therefore I never thought to revisit using an oil again. After reading your suggestion I was prompted to try this method again, and after a little bit of research I realised the first time round I used the incorrect oil. I've since tried massaging oil into my scalp a further two times, and I've managed to remove quite a bit of my dandruff. I've been using a rosemary hair rinse after each wash too, and whilst my dandruff is still visible, I can definitely see a reduction.

I'm also looking into hair masques too. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for all your help!

I have straight bangs and straight but thick hair.
Is it possible to make my hair thinner with scissors? It's like a wall on my forehead which makes my face look very harsh.

Post a pic? Depending on how severe you layers are, just some strategic curling and the hair drawn up from the sides with bobby pins could work. That was my favorite look when my hair was that short. Added a pic that's a bit longer than shoulders, but might still work.
>>9124201
Check out the bangs guide at the top of the thread, but tl;dr is that your bangs need to be a smaller section is of hair fanned out more. Put down the scissors for now. You need grow them out a little, re-establish your bangs section, and then start cutting.

I have cut my bangs according to the guide, but the hair just falls straight down instead of fanning out.

Has anyone ever used John Frieda's Frizz Ease - Air Dry Waves? I'm trying to cut out heat styling products but I'm at a bit of a loss for where to start with air drying products.

Anon, go to a hair salon and have them cut your bangs. Watch what they do, and then go from there on your own when they grow out again. You will notice most likely they will use a razor or thinning shears to take out some of the bulk, and give your bangs shape.

I have shoulder-length, heavily layered hair. Is there anything I can do with it aside from pigtails/ponytail? I tried curling my hair and my hair wouldn't hold the curls.

I've secretly loved the scene kid hair fashion since 2007, and it took an ugly, jealous, poorfag phase to let go of my pride and admit it.

I think the scene hairstyle would look so cute with goth/pastel goth/ menhera type fashion.

Does anyone know who the girl in the picture I posted is? I've reverse image searched but can't locate her on any social media and I want to stalk her profile and follow her style so badly that it hurts.

If no one knows her, then can anyone recommend another scene person to stalk online? Ever since MCR played me like a fiddle with their anniversarial shenanigans, my inner emo is shamelessly itching to be released again. Please and thank you in advance, seagulls.

color stripper uses developer, which damages hair. Head and shoulders only helps so much; I'm was asking specifically for people who had Pravana Blue in their hair, which seems to be harder to remove than many other dyes that I've used.

Oh hey I actually have this hairstyle right now. I didn't really know it was going to turn out like Mirai's hair, but I just asked for a layered bob because it's been so hot out. My layers are kind of long, like in >>9121473
My hair stylist also cuts based on people's facial structure and personal style, so she said she thought the haircut suited me so that's why she gave it to me.

those are your only options. you're just going to have to wait it out if you don't want to bleach it. in my experience prell works way better than head and shoulders if you go that route.

What would be good bangs to go with this cut? My hair is pretty much that texture naturally and I don't mind straightening my bangs every day, but I don't know what would go well with it.

I'm type V.
Can anyone offer suggestions for cute, everyday wear that isn't pulled up into a ponytail slathered with gel?
I'm really envious of all you gals with straight hair. All I can do is wear a limit number of select styles without spending 60+ dollars at a salon.
Thinking of getting a wig also, but being mixed with brown skin makes me feel really ashamed of considering one.

Yeah, the darkest shade of black I can find while also appearing real and natural I guess. I'd rather save the wig as a last resort type thing.

My hair is around III here, I pretty much ruined it all a few years ago but the progress has been quite amazing. I stopped bleaching the shit out of my poor fried hair and just put some random brown on top of it so I could grow my natural color back. My hair has been growing like crazy and even more when I stopped using heat on everything else but my bangs. I also got a nice ombre on top of that. I have been cutting my own bangs for a long time now and my face shape could definitely profit from hime cut. Would the classic one work with my hair type or would it look odd? Should I just stick to shorter side pieces?

You could also use very dark shades of red and brown.

I'm not so sure about brown, there. Wouldn't it look a tad bit off being similar in color to mine?
