Old thread is kill: >>8982629

ITT: We talk about anything related to crossplaying (males cosplaying as females & females cosplaying as males) and crossdressing
- help /questions / seeking advice to improve
- pictures of good crossplays
- selfposts
- your personal story of crossplaying

To help this thread to start off some anon asked:
>Not op, but how did you guys realize you don't mind cute dresses? I'm sure you didn't just wake up one day and decide you're okay with wearingwedding dresses looking kawaii as fuck.

So, what was your personal reason to start crossplaying/crossdressing?

Just to get things back on track... if you are need of more curves you can try a padded undergarment. Else anything will probably serve you fine as long as it isn't too visible (black may show through sheer light colored fabrics).

I'm a little concerned the dress for megumin is really short though and not in a flattering way.

Don't you just shave your legs before you crossplay?

>> No.9070530

>>9070527
That'll also work, but not as well. It all kinda depends on your hair chemistry but epilation is more hardcore but still (IMHO) reasonable. But if you're just going to wear tights over them it's probably totally unnecessary.

Actually now that you brought that up I think waxing probably better if this is just a once in a while sort of thing for cosplay purposes. However if you're trying to keep bare regularly then epilating is the way to go.

The first time you epilate will be the most painful.

>> No.9072481

This is probably a basic question, but I'm having a hard time figuring out sizing. I'm debating getting some cospatio stuff, and I don't want to mess it up by getting something that doesn't fit.

There are a bunch of measurements listed: bust, waist, hip, length, shoulder width, and sleeve length. The hip and waist measurements seem to indicate it will fit okay, but the shoulder width has me a bit worried. It's not a circumference, so is it supposed to be max width? Width when flat? Something else?

I'm never quite sure what to trust when it comes to sizes because I'm pretty skinny, but I guess I have broader shoulders.

>> No.9072506

>>9072481
In my experience, if it's not the circumference being used for measurements it's the width of the garment at that spot when it's laid flat.
For these measurements I usually find something I own that fits nicely, lay it flat and measure that, instead of measuring across my body

Brolita is definitely crossdressing, yes. Some guys pass better than others and it's okay if you're not perfectly girly looking or androgynous but you should put an effort into looking good and following the feminine aesthetic of the style.

Never cosplayed, but i crossplayed once
I was at the scouts, and we decided to make a sort of bingo party to get some money (yeah, in my country we don't simply sell bkscuits to make money)
I was The leader of the animation: wy job was to make some sketches to entertain The pubblic.
Someone as a joke saied:"wouldn't be funny if we put some guy in a girly dress?"
Everybody was staring at me.
They put on me a full dress and made on me a lot of makekup.
My parents were there, i've never seen them laughing that much, I still don't know if they found my performance (i was acting as a parody of a Disney Princess, so in a really feminine way) or because they were really ashamed of me.
That Story was to make fun of me, but I would like to crossdress again, just for fun.
My problem is that I have really masculine traits, so I don't think I'll ever do that again.
Hope that Someone here liked my Story and laufghed at me (i still giggle when i think about it).

So I plan on crossplaying for AX and using make-up for the first time. I plan on using concealer for sure, but do I need foundation too? And is it easy to use? Because I need to learn how to apply it and shit in about 4 days.

>> No.9073700

>>9073045
Brolita is just a male that does lolita, so all the regular lolita rules apply. Lolita is hyper feminine and is meant to look very good/elegant so it requires effort. A dude just wearing a frilly dress will come off as a creepy sissy, and/or if no effort is put into it you'll just look like an ita (see the ita thread).

Even if you don't pass or anything, if you put in serious effort you should be fine. Otherwise you can do oujia/aristocrat, but you should still put in some effort regardless.

>>9073555
Use foundation and get a tone match at sephora or something. Go do it right now and start practicing a lot. Shitty makeup jobs will most likely make you look worse. Read the makeup threads and watch youtube videos on how to apply, or ask the sephora staff while you're there.

>> No.9076901

>>9076867
I'm a casual makeup grill so my advice may not be the best but if you want to start off simple here's how I do my "I just need to leave the house not looking like shit" look.

1. Primer. I use ELF's $6 Mineral Face Primer. It's in a clear/white bottle and it goes on like a gel and dries to a powdery soft finish that kind of blurs your face to look nicer. It's cheap and highly effective.

2. Liquid Foundation / BB Cream. Your choice which but for a lighter look I use BB Cream. If you've got stubble/shadow going on, I'd use a thicker foundation or a BB Cream that's recommended for covering blemishes.

3. Powder. Get either a powder to match your skin tone or get one of the translucent powders that's meant to go with everything and just make sure your liquid layer is covered to finish the look and avoid having a sticky face.

4. Blush. Don't get something super bright and tacky. Just go for a nice subtle color or a light pink and when you apply, make a fish face by sucking your cheeks in so you can see where your cheekbones are. You're going to swipe up along your cheekbone and along that line to highlight your cheekbones instead of just making two circles on your cheeks and calling it a day.

5. Mascara. It's probably intimidating but it's not that hard. You just carefully apply along the underside of your eyelashes from root to tip and kinda slightly jiggle the applicator from side to side to make your eyelashes not clump together. No one wants spider leg lashes. You will make derpy faces and it's surprisingly easier to apply mascara with your mouth open than anything else. No idea why but most people do it.

Optional: Makeup Sealer. It's a spray you can use to minimize the chance of smudging or sweating off your makeup. Don't bother unless you really want to preserve a lot of hard detailed work. If you're going more natural looking then you'll just be spraying your face for nothing and that stuff is sticky. Not worth the hassle.

>> No.9076922

>>9076901
Really appreciate this post. So dumb question, whats the benefit of opting for the expensive stuff when cheaper options work?

>> No.9076972

>>9076922
Not >>9076901 but I've noticed that makeup is kinda one of those things where you pay for what you get. Cheaper stuff will look and feel cheap in comparison, especially things like foundation/concealer. But I definitely recommend getting cheap stuff first to learn and practice. Later on it depends on what it is you want to do, like just a con here or there might not be worth spending $40+ on a single item. Go to youtube and watch a ton of videos.

>>9076845
I suggest you look at yourself or take pics in the sun and then adjust. Bathroom mirror lights might not look the same.

Another anon here.
I'm also pretty clueless when it comes to make up. How stable or sturdy is my face make up after putting it on? Can I touch my face at all after putting it on without ruining it and having sticky/dusty fingers? Sure I shouldn't stand in the rain or rub my face in a towel, but how sensitive is make up in daily life? Any do's and don't I need to follow once I'm done?

>> No.9077132

>>9076922
It's basically what >>9076972 said where most of the time you get what you pay for. Personally I use ELF and LA Color (aka cheap shit) most days because I'm not trying to impress anyone and I just need to cover up my obvious stubble shadow or whatever you dudes call it. Since I'm using it every time I go out I don't want to cash out for expensive Sephora. However, when I cosplay/crossplay at conventions I have some high end Asian cosmetics that I don't otherwise touch unless it's special occasion because it's expensive but it looks a LOT better than what I wear daily.

>>9077109
Diff anon than you quoted but I just put on my makeup to go out so I can answer real quick. Right now I've got primer + BB Cream + powder and my face is pretty dang sturdy. You can touch your face without ruining anything just don't go rubbing your fingers all over. If you poke your face it'll feel a little.. what's the word, dewy? Like it's not sticky/oily or anything if you've got powder on over your liquid but your skin doesn't feel dry and you can tell you've got something akin to lotion on in some places while others will feel completely normal. I think it just depends on your skin since my T-zone (forehead and nose) feels ordinary while my cheeks have that lotiony feel.

Like I told an anon further up, if you're worried get a barrier spray. I think there are some for ordinary makeup but I got Mehron for my more detailed cosplay makeup and I'll use that and aside from the first rush of "Oh jesus fuck this is sticky!" once you spray it directly into your facial region, it does an AMAZING job at preserving your makeup. Just avoid getting it near your eyelashes because they will stick together if coated too much. I made that mistake the first time I used it.

Impressive! I think you've got a strong base to work off already so passing is not much of an issue. Contouring to fit the aesthetic really depends on which character you intend to pull off, since make characters can range from the slender Bishounen type characters to more muscular and built characters. If you want a good starting contour palette try the one by sleek. I quite like the effect.

Thanks so much! In the past I've just applied my regular makeup minus the blush and mascara/eyeshadow but with everyone going above and beyond with crossplay makeup these days I really want to step up my game.
For the palette you linked, should I just stick with the first two shades and avoid the pink entirely? I'm pretty much ginger pale so that's my biggest problem with makeup because any dark/bright colors pop against my skin and bright pinks or dark bronzers look really bad.

Funny how related the OP pic is, I need some help here.

A friend of mine, a girl, wants to make a bunnysuit for cosplay, and she'd like to do one for me as well, since they're my favorite things in the world. I believe I can pass in most regards, but I'd like to ask some necessary things.

One, and I cannot seem to find what I'm looking for on Google, do there exist elbow gloves that are practically the same material as stockings, dark and translucent, but on the arms? Everything I see looks silky or leather, which wouldn't work. I need these because those close to me would get suspicious if I shaved, but my upper arm area and shoulders are completely bare. Second, she says she'll have to take my measurements later on, but are there steps I can take preemptively to make things easier for when the time comes?

The third question was gonna be about flattening my bulge, but it seems it might have already been answered here >>9081534. Still, are there any specifics I should figure out or measurement conversions, or do those things come in men's sizes?

I leave my beard to grow out at least 1-2 mm before a con, shaving in the morning right before I apply makeup. According to others in this thread, epilating will hurt most the first time, but as long as you epilate regularly it should be fine.
I don't know much about shapewear, but many people recommends it to help with tummy and hips.

for bra sizing: get a flexible tape measure, loop it under your nipples, read where it meets, that is your band size. Pick a cup that you want, that is your cup size.
for shopping: online, or man the fuck up and go to a store that sells bras in person.

An epilator will leave you looking like a feathered chicken if your skin is very fair toned and depending on the thickness of your hair. In that case you would be better off trimming with a bikini trimmer and wearing nude colored leggings.

Shapewear works only if a) you're trying to hide a buldge and/or b) you have fat with which the shapewear can shape (i.e. you're not a skeleton like me). If you want added shape, use a cincher or wear padding.

If you're wearing nylons, they'd be easy to hide, especially if you layer up and wear two or three pairs at once. That would also help hide not only leg hair, but slightly smooth out the musculature on the legs and make them look a bit more feminine.

An old roommate of mine used to be a female impersonator, not the clownish looking drag queen type but the classy type, and that was a something I learned from him. He also used to make his own hip and butt pads from foam chair cushions, and when used with layered nylons they created amazing looking fake hips.

Every trap should cosplay as a maid and be my slave pet. He would greet me at the door after I got home, he just cleaned the house and had been waiting for my arrival. I sit on the floor at the coffee table and he runs off to get tea. After he's got it and he's leaving the kitchen, he trips and spills it all over him (it doesn't burn him tho). He's shocked! All over his expensive dress! Now he's nervous because he knows he's going to be in big trouble with master. Those clothes were expensive, and now he has to earn back that money. I ask him to take off the dress so I can examine the damage. He tells me that he's uncomfortable with taking it off in front of me and I tell him too bad, that's part of his punishment. He's very uncomfortable with being seen naked, he can't even undress in front of the other guys in the locker room. He's a very scrawny, skinny young boy with some slight breast development from his HRP. And on top of that, his penis size is not so impressive. The idea of a woman seeing him brought up the insecurities that have hindered him all his life. But, he did it anyways, trembling and looking down. He handed me the clothes, still without making eye contact while his small, developing nipple stood on end from the breeze. I take the clothes from him, but pause to slowly look his body over for a long time. He can feel my eyes on him, but doesn't know what to do. He looks down in discomfort, fearing my judgment of his unmasculine figure and pretending not to notice.

"You're forgetting something"

I say, pointing to his bloomers.

"W-wha? Nothing spilled on them! They're clean!"

"This is a punishment, don't you remember?"

Mortified, he slowly begins to pull down his bloomers. As he let the bloomers drop down beneath his lacy socks, it became apparent that his little penis was hard. I stared at it in astonishment.

I don't mean to be insensitive but *are* you a man? your answer will genuinely help me with what advice I can offer.
Look on Pinterest/Google for articles like "how to create the illusion of curves," etc.

I do agree about the spaghetti straps; I'd avoid them with your body type. This dress is really doing nothing for you- something with shape (like a circle skirt, whether half, 3/4, or full) or something that creates an illusion of curves will help a lot imo.
Flouncier tops. A push-up bra/ bra with inserts.Trumpet sleeves will be your pretty little slim arms' friend and IMO looks very girly. show off that collarbone but try to not wear very tight tops. Generally things like peplums, off the shoulder dresses/tops, etc. You can do all of this just with some basic clothes and you don't have to cinch your waist (which is dangerous and unhealthy and I don't recommend it).

If you'd like I can reply with some photo examples of this. My other main thought was makeup. False eyelashes and blush always make me feel really feminine.

You really look great, though, I just think better-fitting clothes will really do the trick! :)

Get a haircut that hides your manchin and ears. Do not put your hair behind your ears, they're too big to be feminine. Your body is fine, you look like a skinny lanky girl at best, but like the other anon said you need a corset to define your waist. Don't wear dresses that reveal your cleavage like that. Wear something that's still cute but preferably covers your chest entirely. Maybe something with a peter pan collar? Wear makeup, learn how to contour for ladies. You don't need glasses because your eyes are pretty cute and doe-like from what I can see. Just use eyeliner etc. to make them stand out more. Your lips are pretty small/thin so a nice shade of lipstick and a lipliner matching your lip color will help. Youtube tutorials are out there in abundance.

Lower necklines are actually better for passing purposes because they draw attention away from the base of the neck. What OP needs is thicker straps or something that breaks up the shoulders more.

The character I'm crossplaying next wears sheer black pantyhose. That's cool and all but I'm starting to develop serious quads from working out/martial arts and they're starting to become visible through the semi-transparent fabric. When I wear totally opaque leggings or kneesocks it just looks like I have t h i c c thighs, though of course they don't have the shiny texture/finish of sheer that I want. Should I wear them as a compromise, or is there an alternative? Would wearing two pairs of black pantyhose make it dark enough to not notice my underlying muscle, while maintaining the effect?

As for why my first project is crossplay, I've been crossdressing as a hobby for years anyway. I used to have a much more feminine body type and skirts and lots of girls clothes were basically just comfy as fuck. So I decided I'd jump in at the deep end and make my first cosplay a female character, since I like them more and maybe I'd learn faster. She also wears a mask, is 5'8 and has a high-button collar that covers the adam's apple so there's a lot less pressure about passing.

Shame we couldn't go as a pair. The gessen blazer is a bitch btw. Can't find any school uniforms that look like it so I'm very likely going to have to buy a double breasted coat or something like this and modify it, which is gonna set me back a crap ton, or really work on my sewing skills. And that's assuming I can even find one in the right shade of grey. This one's almost perfect for example but there's no way I can lighten the navy to a pale grey.

All the other schools in this game have really basic sailor fukus and blazers that you can get from anywhere... it's just Gessen that decided to be a nightmare with their dress code. And to think the whole reason I chose Kumo with her school outfit instead of her shinobi outfit is because she's pretty much got her thong and 36H's out on full display, and I thought this would be easier.

But yeah more SK cosplay would fucking rock. It has great designs and fuck all people are bothering to attempt them so go for it if you can.

If suntanned, start wearing sunscreen faithfully and exfoliate often. If naturally darker in tone, nothing outside of professional bleaching, though sunscreen + exfoliating helps keep all skin the lightest it can be in either case and can help prevent the dullness that makes skin seem darker too.

How hard would it be to pull off a crossplay like this? I've never cosplayed before so I looked for a character who's outfit didn't look to hard to make.

big anime titties are difficult.
Outfits that are entirely based on showing lots of clevage are impossible if you don't have big anime titties or are a girl.

You can't really do that for something like that. Look closely.
The entire point of the upper section of the outfit is showing cleavage.
If you have nothing up there, it's gonna look ridiculous if you're actually trying to do it unironically.

How do you deal with a lot of hair? I've always wanted to crossplay but I have A LOT of hair on my arms, legs, chest, and face. Maybe I should just do a crossplay that covers up most of my body, because I don't know if I could get rid of all of my body hair.

It depends on what you're looking to wear.

If it's something that you can get away with wearing opaque tights and a set of arm warmers with, you can avoid most of the shaving (for your body, at least). Black will hide the best, if that's a color that will match.

Sometimes there is, sometimes not. Basics are foundation and concealer for your skin type and color, translucent powder to set them. Then powder highlighting and contour, one lighter, one darker than your skin shade. Eyeliner, mascara and a neutral eyeshadow palette, 4 or more shades. Lip liner and lipstick. Brushes, sponges, tweezers. Those are general basics after hair removal and any skincare you need to do. Most people benefit from a makeup primer and sealing spray. But if you are overwhelmed and don't know what goes where yet, watch makeup tutorials for basic makeup first before shopping at all until you get the idea of what goes where, why and in what order. Many people spend more on foundation, concealer and primer because the more flawless your skin looks, the better everything else looks. Mascara and eyeliner need to be tossed every 3 months unless it is a pencil liner you sharpen. Everything else should have a symbol on it, usually a makeup pot and month number for how long to keep it.

I go to the UK cons and crossplay and there are a lot of cool 2hu fans that either also crossplay or just enjoy seeing people who do.

My advice is just to do it, even if you don't pass perfectly. With practice you'll get better quick.

I'm in a similar situation, but a few years older (although thankfully I look young for my age). Had opportunities years ago, but passed them up because a girl at the time didn't like it.

I'm going for it 100% now so I can at least have the chance to try before I get any older. You should do the same. It's not too late, so enjoy it now before you regret it.

Me too! Also you're very kawaii, with some eyeliner and contouring you could definitely look feminine. You kind of remind me of 90s era Angelina Jolie, though I guess it depends on your build. You don't look particularly tall though, if you don't mind me saying.

I often see people in these threads and other places give the advice that guys who decide to grow their hair out need to make sure they wash, style and brush it so it doesn't look poo.
I've been growing my hair out for a while now, but how the heck do I style my hair? What does it mean? I thought a lot of girls left it at washing and brushing anyway.

>> No.9125529

>>9125491
As someone with long hair already I can say that if you want to do natural hair, you're gonna need to style it to hide your (probably) masculine hairline, and the way it frames your face can also help hide more masculine details. As for how to style it, well I suggest find a style you like, copy it, and post somewhere for feedback, change it a bit, and get more feedback.

How do crossdressers even get into J-fashion? Asians have smaller frames than Americans and women have smaller frames than men. I'm having trouble finding anything that can fit my waist (89cm). I thought I was good on my weight, I'm in the normal category and I don't want to lose more.

89cm is 35inches apparently which is a pretty big waist IMO. I wear J-fash and I wear a 28 inch waist on my hips but I can fit a 26 inch, I don't know what my actual measurements are though.

It depends on what you like though, I can't speak for Lolita but VK has used drawstrings a lot lately, streetwear like LISTEN FLAVOR generally uses them less but there are some exceptions.

>> No.9126557

Actually I think I'm being retarded, my waist measures 28 inches yet every pair of 28 inch waist jeans I have can fit around my waist easily with loads of space to spare (hence wearing them on my hips).

Can anyone tell me why this is?
