BCEC has the same bag check / detector issues, they and the Hynes are both owned by MCCA. The real problem is the way the space is laid out, not the actual size. Too much expo floor not enough med and small rooms.

I'm going with a group of my friends as Naruto characters and I couldn't afford to go another day as Josuke like I wanted to. It's my first time at a big con (if you consider Connecticon a small one) and my friends said we'd get alot of pictures so I didn't look into panels

I don't know why the hell they can't manage the bag checks in a timely manner. Pax east has had a bag check for the past two years and they don't have any problems with lines to get into the con and the bcec has even less entrances. I don't know why they can't figure it out at the hynes, anime boston doesn't even have half the attendees of pax.

PAX has bag check set up outside on the sidewalk outside the BCEC meaning they have fifteen lines going at once. The Hynes is trying to cram people through 4 doors at the Pru entrance. It's not a matter of efficiency so much as it is simple space.

If they run their metal detectors anything like the BCEC, they do not give a solitary shit if you set it off, as long as you fuss about it. Just tell them you have a medical device/it's part of your cosplay/whatever, and they'll send you on your merry way into con. It's inconvenient, false security at its finest.

;_; there's not even many interesting panels I want to go to on Friday but I still feel annoyed that I'm gonna be almost missing the whole day. saturday I'm a little busy so friday I was planning on walking around and just trying my best to like, socialize and get pics of cosplays and whatnot. I guess I'll just stay the whole of sunday. I dunno why I feel so pissed off about getting in so late though, I think I'm convinced I'm like, not gonna be able to get any time at the con in on Friday because since I'm getting there so late, I'm worried by the time I make it my friends are gonna be wanting to leave to go back to the hotel but I don't want to like, make anyone stay at the con longer if they're tired and wanna leave, or other friends that I find are gonna be scooting out because they're gonna go for dinner at that time, and then leave the con for the evening.

I think I'm just overthinking things and also slightly overemotional because it's that time of the month again for me.

I saw a lot more skin than usual, and more than i'd expect from AB. i think attendees are getting older which is a good direction. the next few should be good if they sort out the content and lines.

So either you talked to me in the elevator line or a lot of people had a similar experience... I checked in at 12, and at 5 pm they still hadn't notified me that my room was ready. I complained at it ~suddenly became available ~. Another friend waited even longer than we did, the hotel ended up comping his dinner. It was a fucking joke. Okay so this was my first AB, and will probably be my last. Didn't have a good time, lines were hell, pru security was a bunch of shouty asshole, and honestly none of the panels caught my eye.

But most of all, I feel like I may have gotten fucked with my room situation.
What would the average price be for 4 people in a King Sheraton room, thurs-sun. The room host was cagey as hell and wanted me to discreetly pay them, never mentioning numbers out loud.

I don't want to say that it's because I'm too old for this shit, but I really felt like this was, if not the worst, certainly not one of the better years for AB. It felt like there weren't a lot of panels, in terms of variety as well as quantity, and the dealers hall was pretty disappointing. Like, most booths usually have similar things, that's just good business depending on what's popular, but it really felt like a lot of them were just the same store with a different name. Animation cel guy was pretty great though, as per usual.

My room with a double bed cost $800 total for three nights before we split it. It really is a pricey hotel and a busy weekend when they can charge whatever they want. If you really want to know for sure how much your room host was charged you could just ask the hotel staff and tell them your room number and dates you stayed. I don't think that info is private.

There were minifridges in some rooms, but unfortunately there aren't enough fridges to go around for every AB attendee. Getting a room that already has a fridge is a matter of luck or first come first serve. Next time, if you want a fridge you can request one to be brought to your room, though they may or may not charge a small fee.

Not entirely sure why upscale hotel rooms often don't come with microwaves, but I think many of their clientele wouldn't want them anyway. If you pay that much for a hotel room (and don't absolutely need that specific location like for a con), you probably have money to go buy food instead of heating hot pockets, preferably going to the hotel's restaurant- from the hotel runner's point of view at least. Cheaper hotels and motels might have fridges and microwaves because making cheap convenient store junk is what their clients often want. But again, at the Sheraton there may be a possibility of requesting a microwave. If you were a normalfag coming when there wasn't a big con, you could pretty much ask for whatever you want and a hotel that nice will try to bend over backward to accommodate you. But a very high volume of people can make that impossible in some circumstances.

As for your host charging you that much, splitting a 3 night $800 stay(plus the new $10 per extra key policy they suddenly set up this year, and i dunno if he also put in a charge for housekeeping tip) between I'm guessing 4 people would be reasonable. Seems like an even split. Though you should really talk to your host and decide beforehand if you think he should ask for less from those not getting a bed and more from people getting real beds. In general you should talk and decide expenses and know the bill beforehand if you want that kind of peace of mind anyway. You can ask him for a copy of his receipt too.

This was my first convention, and I had a good time. I especially wanna thank some of the folks I met at the cgl meetups; I only really saw you gulls for a split second but it was nice to meet you. You folks were remarkably well-adjusted for a website that uses moe Hitler as a banner.

My only regret is waiting till Saturday night to start drinking.

I did ask her about a month before the con, but she said she couldnt give me exact numbers yet. I'm used to 150 for an actual bedspace being the expected amount at a main hotel, aside from maybe D*C? She insisted on no housekeeping at all.
Though, I suppose this is what I get for saying yes to someone I'd met in passing asking if i wanted in on an AB room :/ Lesson learned.

I know everyone is complaining about the lines and other things, but I honestly had a great time this year. Went in the Boylston street every time and the line was never more than ~10 minutes. I guess if you don't like metal detectors on principal you might have been put off by the experience, but I just requested to be wanded and bypassed that bullshit.

For food, I had lunch across the street at Lir (completely empty and delicious with good drink options). No obnoxiously over-priced tinfoil hot dogs for me. Again, mileage may have varied depending on your knowledge of the area.

The cosplay games were pretty good this year, the attendees seemed more relaxed/older - everyone was extremely polite about taking pictures and understanding how not to block traffic for the most part. I only heard Marco Polo twice, so that was also nice.

It sucks that some people didn't have a good time, but this one was a real winner for me! Maybe I was just in a good mood because I was proud of my cosplays this year, but I think it was just fine all around.

One thing though, If I never see another Sans cosplay again, I'll die happy.

I had a great time. Ended up hanging out with one of the gulls from the first meetup into what basically became a 2-day party. Drinkin' 'till 6am was fun. Twitch afterparty was fun.

My only regret is not bracing for the cold and cosplaying on Saturday. But honestly, I was too tired at that point anyway.

If I'm still in Boston next year I'll def throw another party during AB. As for now, prep time for AX :3.

The entire time I was at the con I kept thinking: "Wow if there really were a terrorist here, they would have a very easy time just attacking the con attendees at the food venues in the pru or, even easier, while they were waiting in the outdoor line lined up for security checks.
