For us Amerifats, it's tax season! What are gulls spending their hard earned/free money on? Burando? Cosplay? JFash? Saving it like a responsible adult?

Post pictures!

I'm trying to save most of it, but I've spent some reserving nameless poem in black and green, got some socks from AP's sale, got a corset from sheglit, and managed to snag pic related when I noticed it briefly came back in stock in my preferred colorway!

I'm trying to only spend half of what i actually need from my refund. For example if something I want is $100, I'll pull out $50 from my refund and spend the other $50 from my regular checking account.

I spent the last year digging myself into nearly $10k of credit card debt, of which my 1k tax return will barely scratch the surface of, so I don't get to buy any new goodies. On the bright side, I'm starting a new job soon and will fingers crossed be able to pay off my debt by next year. I'm ashamed to say that a good chunk of my debt came from buying lolita when I shouldn't have (the rest came from my SO and then me being alternately unemployed and still needing to eat).

Ugh. I finished grad school last year (May 2015), and stupidly made the final payment in December 2014 instead of January 2015, so I lost out on that $2,000 credit for 2015 and had to pay tax on my scholarship. My refund was like $1,100 instead of $3,500.

Whatever, too late to fix it now. I'm replacing my DSLR and buying a yukata set.

I already got my return and spent it! I always do my taxes asap...
Spent 400 in a day on make up from sephora and then went home and did a taobao haul and ebay haul. Got some stuff from Clobba for the first time and I'm waiting to hear back on my dress but my petticoat shipped and is waiting at the post office. Going to pick it up tomorrow before my doctor appointment which sucks cause my cramps are killing me.
I'm still getting packages from how much I spent lol. It was close to 900 in total I think?
Also got Milky Cross with the paycheck that came right after my return but that's already sitting in my closet.

Tax season is rarely this good to me.

My mom transferred my investment portfolio to me and didn't tell me that she sold off some stock to reinvest somewhere else and now I have to pay a capital gains tax. It's way more than what my refund would have been, so now I owe the government money. I am mad, but also feel like I can't be mad since I still technically have money in said investment portfolio. I was going to treat myself with that return though.

Got 2K back thanks to those military and joint income credits. Went back to paying off a 6k credit card debt. We're probably going to rack it back up a tad with an upcoming vacation, but I budgeted out a payment plan over the next year so I don't feel so terrible. I just accepted a part time job at my apartment office for 25% off rent, free water and electric, so that's an additional 500$ per month that's going to able to help pay it off.

A word of advice anons- it's no fun having debt and not being able to treat yourself, split it up like 35% fun, 65% paying off debt. You can still shop a bit, and feel a lot better knowing you just put a decent dent in your debt.

idk huge tax returns aren't inherently a good thing. It's just money you've overpayed. I've heard people say that the closer to zero, the better, because you can use the money sitting at the fed and put it in savings instead. And make like $3 off of it.

I only got $1.1k back for mine (shitty retail job, started new job beginning of February)

So I spent most of it on treating my boyfriend and I to small stuff. I have about $500 of it in savings still which I'll probably dump in my student loans.

Some cosplay stuff was purchased for our maybe Taric costumes? It was some general costume stuff. Worbla, Eva foam, some tools. I had to replace everything I had because my dad has it and I'm not on speaking terms with him.

Might be spending some of the rest of it on moving costs, new bed, new tv since we're moving in April. Really sad I didn't get approved for a nfm card so I could finance the expensive shit instead.

This was my first time doing taxes and I guess because I only worked part of the year the US thinks I'm poor and is giving me all of the tax money I gave last year. I was not expecting to get $1,500+ dollars. I could put a thousand away for a new car and still have plenty to pick up my next cosplay wigs, a figure or two, and a few things for my kitchen. Hanging with my friends more important than saving atm. That is, if I have to pay. My measly earnings usually mean that all I save for paying becomes my tax return, though I did pay five bucks last year and made more this year.
To top it off, my money was recently subject to fraud through a venmo account someone set up. Got it back but I'm still seething that an account that does nothing but hold money with no checks issued could get stolen. It might be time for a different bank.

I only worked less than 2/3 of last year, but I used that money to pay for tuition outright so education credit thank heavens.

Used part of it to put towards tuition, a chunk towards cosplay, Sakuracon badge & tickets, Otakon badge, and buyf/a/g shit including my FotY.

I have a good solid $1k put aside to spend in Seattle, but I won't spend all that there so a chunk of it will go towards finally getting a passport & Global Entry.
