Packaged food might be more expensive, but processed foods are better deals in that they are both higher in calories, much cheaper, and more convenient (important if you work two jobs) than fresh produce. Also it requires little if any equipment for prep, which is important for people who don't have ovens/pots/pans/cutting boards/good knives etc. And there are food deserts in the US where grocery stores are not accessible and only fast food/convenience store are in reasonable driving distance. All of these lead to a seemingly paradoxical trend of increasing obesity AND malnutrition in the U.S. People can get the calories for cheap, but they can't get the nutrients they need. It is also a fact that eating healthier is more expensive (see below).

Food deserts:
https://apps.ams.usda.gov/fooddeserts/fooddeserts.aspx
Processed foods being cheaper:
www.npr.org/2013/03/01/173217143/why-process-food-is-cheaper-than-healthier-options
www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/press-releases/healthy-vs-unhealthy-diet-costs-1-50-more/

Aka, if we want less fat itas, demand the government subsidizes a diversity of produce rather than the corn you find in nearly all processed food in the form of corn syrup (which is also highly addictive). Make healthy food more accessible.

Moar you know.

Being fat or uncute is completely arbitrary and up to the individual. What a bunch of bullshit. Also, it's only a photoshoot thing if you're a giant narcissist and being seen online is your entire life. The rest of it wear our clothes and don't give a shit what anyone else thinks as long as we're well dressed.

>> No.8759510

While you may have a few fat fetishists think that morbid or superobesity is kawaii, the general population doesn't think it's healthy.

And it's nice to go on and on about how you don't care what people think looks good or bad, but we're in an ita thread. Of course people are going to judge what looks bad in a thread that specifically sets it up.

You can be huge like x-box and still dress nicely to flatter your figure, that includes lolita. I have no problem with people being posted that are fat and shittily dressed or are busting out of the seams of the dresses they're wearing and look terrible. Being fat, however, does not automatically make someone an ita. Quit being a hungry skeleton and eat a cheeseburger. Pro-ana is not kind to your reasoning skills.

>Quit being a hungry skeleton and eat a cheeseburger. Pro-ana is not kind to your reasoning skills.

And it's you saying I'm making assumptions?

Sorry to burst your bubble mate but while you are correct that beauty is arbitrary, there are studies that show that fat people are unfortunately discriminated against at work because of their size and not conforming to commonly accepted standards of aesthetics.

And since we're in an ita thread, on /cgl/ of all places, it is one aspect that people do take into account. If we're going to harp on about doing makeup well and flattering colors to skintone, we cannot unfortunately separate the person from the clothing, and that will be taken into account, whether or not you like it, on an anonymous board whose culture tends to be about 2cm skin deep.

And as you said, the entire thing is arbitrary so now we're back to square one where we're arguing about what constitutes 'ouch' or 'ita' again, which is again entirely arbitrary and will be up to the individual whether they take the person's appearance into account.

No one is saying that being morbidly obese is healthy. I'm throwing the accusations back at you because you don't have to be a fat fetishist to think that fat girls can look good if their clothes fit well and they dress themselves nicely, as you were insinuating. It's a stupid argument in either direction, right? And bringing up that people get discriminated against because of their weight just hammers the point home that it's shitty to call a person ita purely because they're overweight when the outfit itself is fine and coordinated well.

And yes, it's also circular argument bringing up that it's entirely subjective. That was my point; saying all fat chicks/ugly chicks look shitty in lolita as a fact is just dumb and completely subjective. Saying something looks ita is subjective too, but for fucks sake it's just clothing. People can't help being born ugly, and not being fat for most people isn't as easy as buying a larger sized dress. But anyways. The three things rule is dumb. Calling all chubby girls ita is dumb. Sticking to that as my main argument here.

>> No.8759622

I think the ita thread is entirely subjective to be honest. While we make fun of itas for instance, I'm pretty sure most normalfags would point and laugh at us on the street. You'll have oldfags sometimes defending what everyone else agrees to be itas, you'll have newfags tearing apart a quite frankly bland coordinate.

But yet we're here.

Either way having someone say that you look shitty is a terrible feeling, but with clothing at least you can take the clothes off and change them. Fat people know they're fat. It can take years to loose excess weight healthily. Plastic surgery is really fucking expensive and way out of reach compared to a frilly dress. So, it's just ridiculous to make fun of things that people cannot easily change. Just putting that perspective out there.

I'm old-school (literally) and so that kind of shit is off-limits to me. Be salty, but, at least don't justify it as if you're doing it for the persons benefit. Posting someone on an ita thread because they're fat accomplishes nothing. At least with outfits, people can learn something from being posted here. That and I don't post people here, I just lurk because I actually learn shit myself from seeing other people fuck up. I think a lot of us are here for that reason too.

Not a fatanon but this is a nonsensical platitude. If someone bought a dress with some excess birthday or holiday money a few months ago it doesn't necessarily mean they have the cash to buy organic every day. It's like saying someone who has a car or a nice tv shouldn't be on public assistance because they had some money to buy a luxury item at one point. Food is even worse because that's generally something that needs to be bought on a daily and/or weekly basis in order to live, unless they have the time and live in the climate where they can grow their own food.

You should really be focusing on diet instead of just saying you can't get to the gym. Most of your weight loss is going to be made in the kitchen. Exercise is just there to burn a few extra calories off the top and give you a bit of muscle to raise your standing metabolism and so you don't look like a skinnyfat deflated balloon when you've lost it. Not at all? You just restated exactly what I was saying, but just so we're on the same page, you can buy chicken from a regular grocery store for less than you would at an organic store. I've heard it on here, as well as other places, that the only way you can eat healthy is by buying organic when that's simply not true, it just perpetuates the myth that unhealthy food is more expensive than healthy food.

>> No.8760093

...but even at the regular store there's still a price difference between non-growth hormone chicken and chicken raised for common slaughter. You don't seem to understand that and I wonder if you've ever read the labels on grocery products or have bought your own food before.

>> No.8760113

>>8760099
I feel as though we're almost on the same page, but not quite there yet. My point is, don't buy that expensive thing when you can buy the regular price thing if you're on a budget (and that it's less expensive than fast food). What's your point, because all I"m getting right now is "regular grocery stores sell organic too!"

>> No.8760125

>>8760113
The point is going over your head and I'm not sure how much clearer I can be. You originally said that buying safer food ("organic") wasn't expensive. So now that I've pointed out that it is even in normal stores, you're saying to buy the cheaper product with the growth hormones that contributes to weight gain? What exactly are you arguing about?

>> No.8760138

>>8760125
I never said to buy organic, though, infact quite the opposite. OP originally said
>If someone bought a dress with some excess birthday or holiday money a few months ago it doesn't necessarily mean they have the cash to buy organic every day.
To which I replied
>Well there's the problem, they think they need to waste their money on organic food when they can shop at a regular grocery store
Meaning "stop wasting money on the organic version when the regular version is more affordable". Then you came in with "but organic at regular stores is still more expensive than the regular stuff", which is where the misunderstanding came in. I was right when we said we were on the same page, but you somehow got it into your head that I was advocating for organics when I wasn't.

I was never talking about weight gain, those were different anons, but since we're on the subject, me and everyone I know have been eating those growth hormone filled foods and we're still at a normal weight. I'm not saying they may or may not have adverse side effects (I haven't read up on it), but even if they did cause you to gain weight, you're going to gain much, much less weight on regular groceries than you would if you were eating fast food all the time.

I just had my bc changed for the same reason and am noticing that I'm storing fat and water a lot more. Try cutting added sugar from your diet and eat things that are naturally low in sugar. Keep track of your caloric intake - I have PCOS so my metabolism is garbage, plus the wonky bc now, so I had to cut out about 200 calories from my diet.
Also, try doing more weights instead of cardio at the gym. If you do cardio, you stop burning calories shortly after your workout. With weights, you gain more muscle and will burn calories throughout the day. You'll sweat out water weight at the gym as well, so I highly recommend working out for at least an hour when you can.

But again, processed foods are even cheaper than fresh produce. And people need calories as much, if not more, as they need nutrients.

It's also important to remember this is the U.S. Processed food is SO much cheaper because corn, wheat, and soy-nutritionally devoid crops-are heavily subsidized by the government. These crops started being subsidized during the Great Depression in the 1930s, and it's been inexplicably continued ever since. That's why those crops are found in almost everything- they are just incredibly cheap to produce.

So it really is an issue of healthy food not being accessible- it can't be contested that produce, organic or not, is more expensive than processed foods, which give you the most bang for your buck in terms of calories. The government could subsidize other kinds of food, but they don't. If you try meeting your minimum amount of needed calories with food stamps, you absolutely HAVE to buy processed foods.
