So I'm considering getting the new JetJ shoes, but the sizing just doesn't make fucking sense to me.

I'm a EU 38, my feet measure 23,8cm, that pretty much equals a Japanese M size on that chart (24cm).
But according to the UK size on this chart, the shoes in M are only a Japanese 23,5 and according to the French (EU) size the shoes in M are only a Japanese 23,0. So they suddenly wouldn't be the right size anymore.
Going by the Japanese sizing again, the L size (25cm) would definitely be too big for me, going by the French size, L would fit me again.

So which size am I supposed to pick now? I'm hella confused. If anyone owns JetJ shoes and can tell me what the sizing is truly like, I'd really appreciate that.

Has anyone else tried ordering from Maiden Clothing and received this error when trying to pay? Every time I hit the next button on my payment screen I get this error before I can input my information. Any idea what to do? I'm going to email them about it now and see if they can send me a new payment link...

......I'm just as confused as you are. I'm US size 8 and always order Japanese shoe size L. My foot size is 23.5 and this is the first time I'm seeing it as a size M (and yet US size 8 would be size L or bigger).

Might be easier to just email them and ask if the chart has a mistake in it. Failing that, ask if the shoes are bigger than normal Japanese sizing or if they're similar to normal Japanese shoe sizing. If it's similar to Japanese sizing, L size should actually be 24cm.

If the answer is still confusing, you can consider going one size up and then get ready to pad out the shoe with insoles, inserts and so on. I don't know if it'll be comfortable to have shoes that are too big, though.

Does anyone know "being lolita" on instagram? I keep seeing them liking everything and it gets me salty because for a general lolita fan page they only focus on safe efamous sweet lolitas and AP, it feels really one dimensional. If they were called 'beingsweetlolita" it would make sense. Hopefully it's just because the account is new and it will balance out.

Looking at getting a nice wig that will hold up and not tangle horribly for weekly use. I'm looking into Dream Holic, Pinkage and Gabalnara wigs. Anyone have any recommendations? I know Prima H is the best fiber for Gabalnara, but is "many yarns" or "supreme yarns" the best that Pinkage offers? Also, anyone have any experience with human hair wigs? Also like Bright Lele wigs quite a bit.

Gabalnara is nice, but some of their wigs tend to tangle pretty quickly. I have two from them, the original wig GLW based the Rhapsody on, and a pin-straight one. The frizzy wig is a mess of tangles in back every time I wear it more than an hour, so I've taken to wearing it in fluffy plaits to avoid that.

When I was a young weeb I had a debit card. It was tied to my dad's account and I would save up money from odd jobs and have him deposit it in my account. And there are enough adults who go to cons who would be interested in at least trying it. So with that said, if I had them put the card on file first I can avoid the deposit and still cover my ass if something should happen to a dress.

I just think it would be nice to have something like that travel to different conventions because it makes lolita a lot more accessible. Kind of like that manga library that travels to cons. And then with the profits I can save up money to buy some rare pieces that will attract actual lolitas. It's a win win for everyone. I just turn off anon messaging, refuse unknown friends requests and use the ban/ignore function if I find someone annoying. Only had someone message me to buy a dress once, and that was on a dress I said I was considering selling anyway.

As for online wardrobes, consider this: the whole point of being in an online community is to be able to find other girls who share our interest. The keyword here is "share". It isn't just about new releases and shopping, sometimes we want to be able to talk about old dresses, what we dislike about some dresses, compare notes, find out the real colour vs the brand's stock photos, and so on. And the wardrobe being open for public viewing helps spark discussion: you can ask the owner questions about particular items, bond over dresses you both have, discover dresses you didn't know existed, and so on. If you got a friends request from someone and all they had up was an online wardrobe and a wishlist, at the very least you know what kind of lolita they are/like. In contrast, if you got a request from someone with nothing on their blog, well, personally I'd be a lot more dubious that they're even into lolita.

I think there's a huge difference between plugging your online wardrobe in every single thread going "LOOK AT MY HOARD LOOK AT ME" vs simply having an online wardrobe open for public viewing so that they don't need to log in and change permissions everytime they want to show it to someone for whatever reason.

I dunno. sounds like a cute idea in theory but I think it's really too much work, and the stuff you have to do to protect your stock will be either hard to enforce or very off-putting for people. as for >>8754874 I guess it really depends on how young, since I remember some young weebs never having a debit card and I myself never having one either. a lot of weebs, even if they're in high school with some sort of job, are the types who just show up to cons with like $75 in cash and that's it.

anyways besides that, how feasible is this from both an economic and physical perspective?

like first of all, where are you gonna get the dresses from? are you gonna spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on buying stuff for this or is it coming from your own wardrobe? are you expecting people to just donate clothes? are you charging them for photos like a photobooth or are they taking their own pics? how sanitary will this be - with trying on hats/wigs you run the risk of things such as lice, and what about people who have BO who have tried on dresses and the scent remains afterward, or people who sweat all over blouses and dresses? the clothing would need to be cleaned after each convention, some potentially at the end of each day. while lolita clothing can fit a variety of sizes, there are gonna be some people who just don't fit the bill for what you have on hand. are you prepared to deal with angry morbidly obese weebs? booth space costs a lot of money too, and that's gonna be a lot of space needed for a dressing area plus storage for people to put their clothes/cosplays down somewehre, plus clothing racks/shelves/tables/whatever plus the photobooth area. if you're taking photos, all that equipment - cameras, a laptop, photoprocessing software, different backgrounds, props if you want them, etc. is all gonna add up too.

>> No.8755299

I forgot to add, but don't forget there's gonna be a lot of wear and tear on those dresses after awhile as a result of people constantly tugging at them, pulling them on and off, touching them, being stored and transported, etc. there is potential for things to become lost or damaged in transport and storage as well.

Also the dress is white (Moitie's Holy Angel) and there seems to be a bit of yellowing around the inner neckline and some of the lace at the neckline, anyone know the best way to get rid of it, should I just spot clean with some standard stain remover?

These are all really good points, and I'll definitely have to think about them seriously if and when I begin, but part of me still wants to do it.

As far as clothes I am completely prepared to spend time and money collecting the pieces. It wouldn't be an overnight process obviously. And at the start the dresses wouldn't be all NWT brand, lots of secondhand that's been marked down. I don't think I'd charge extra for photos or bother with a photo booth, I would just let them use their phone to take pics and assist when needed.

The wig/hat issue is a good point. If I had a bunch of disposable wig caps and threw them away after, do you think that would work? If not then I can just nix the wigs all together and just let them wear the dress.

If I stick with filing the card beforehand option (and if that stops the young weebs from getting to try stuff on so be it, there are enough adults that it won't make much difference) and they make the dress stink I can charge them for that. I'll make sure that's posted along with my no bodypaint rule and maximum sizing info.

Speaking of max sizing, if I'm willing to let my wallet take the plunge with everything else, I should have no problem just buying a lot of Haenuli and supplementing with custom sized dresses I've ordered with purposefully large measurements. With that I should be able to fit the average fatty chan and maybe even have one or two dresses for true hambeasts. If I have to turn people away after that, so be it, and at least I'll have taken their measurements down and can use them as reference for buying even larger stock.

It probably isn't the most financially lucrative operation, and it would mean a massive amount of effort on my part, but I can't stop thinking about seeing the look of pure happiness on someone's face after trying on their first lolita dress. That alone would be worth it for me.

after all that if you're still willing to try and make it work then, hey, go for it. it really does sound like a cute idea, just be smart about how much time and money you're gonna invest in this because you definitely will be investing a lot of your own time and money in it.

I don't know how much money you have but it may be best to set out a budget sheet first because even with just like, 5 dresses and some accessories, there's still booth space and transportation costs and this sounds like it will easily cost you over $1000 to start up.

As for wigs/hats and lice, honestly just don't even bother, especially with wigs. Nits can remain on people's clothes, lice can hop around, if someone is standing in line with lice the people standing around them have a chance of getting it too because of the way lice jump, buts wigs/hats will make it easiser. It may be easier to find some kind of sanitary cap etc for hats. This is something I just thought of but legwear may be an issue too - tights are a little too up close and personal for me to want to try on after someone else has just worn them, socks are a bit better but there's also the risk of spreading like foot fungi around. I dunno what you're gonna do about shoes since you said it'd wouldn't be possible to have so many sizes in so many different colors and styles but I would try getting at least like........basic black tea parties or something in a variety of sizes perhaps and those throw-away sock thingies in shoe stores for trying stuff on.

good luck anon, I still can't say I'm convinced as to how well this will work out but I do admire your willingness to try anyway. I would also test it out at some small, local conventions initially as well and try to do feedback cards or something if/when you can.

Thank you all for your input. I know I might rub a few tumblrinas the wrong way in the process but they can't say anything bad about me that hasn't been said before so I don't mind haha.

Yeah the start up cost is the only real obstacle for me. But if I make a budget sheet like >>8755995 suggested I'm pretty sure I can do it, it would just be a slow process. I don't imagine I'd do legwear because as you said it's just a bit gross, especially if lots of girls keep trying them on. And with the lice issue I'll just nix the wigs/hats and maybe just stick to headbands, bows, etc. Next time Bodyline has a big sale I'll buy a bulk order of shoes so that solves my shoe problem for the most part. If someone has feet that are too big then I'll just take a knees up photo for them.

Doing a test run at a small con is a great idea. There are a few in my area so it would be really easy to do. I'm pretty sure I can also rope my friend in as an assistant to help with some of the setup, transportation, and to help watch the booth.

I'm getting really excited about this. I know some people suggested charging $5 but honestly I was thinking of charging $15 to cover the cost of cleaning and so I break even on the booth. Thoughts?

I think this is a bad idea but I'm impressed by your determination!
I say $10 but $12 if you really really have to.
To cut down on costs, why not create really simple color schemes so all the pieces mix and match? Like obvioualy goth is all black but maybe get sweet prints either in black or with black? Get a classic dress that coords with black well. Only versatile black shoes in size 6, 8, 10. I'd say start small and get lots of bodyline.
That being said, weebs love pastel vomit and getting to try on pastel vomit Real Angelic Pretty!!! would be a huge deal to a lot of girls. I'd focus on that.
I'd also say get a nice mirror and backdrop and at least one light source. You want to make it seem like its worth it to the customer as well.

You can have a fitting room too, so people can still try stuff on, and if it gets smelly you can just shoot febreeze at it. Definitely what this anon said about starting out simple - try to pick just a few basic color schemes so you can make the most of your money and a smaller closet, similar to the advice newbies get when trying to build their wardrobe. I'm thinking something like black, pink, sax, and white/ivory/etc?
starting off, maybe try some plain shirred pieces and add in just a few prints here and there. definitely take advantage of bodyline too - a lot of people are constantly selling cheap BL in sales groups and certain BL pieces weebs would really enjoy. I would also try to make a WTB or search for sales for items people are trying to desperately get rid of, as you can get some good deals that way.

I was about to suggest this too - for all the money you're putting into it and the high possibility you won't or will only just barely break even on the booth cost, I think you would be better off having a booth with low-cost dresses where you are allowed to try stuff on.

I mean, think of it, it only makes sense - you get a weeb that's so excited to try a dress on, they see themselves and they feel super good and think they look really cute, and they think about how much they want to buy that dress. There's appeal in selling BL and taobao stock with modest markup, too - weebs don't have to go through the initial trouble (not until later at least) towards figuring out to buy these items themselves or waiting for a very long time. Heck, you could even create packs/sets after awhile.

I was talking about the Tocco-san girl.
Apparently baby has been really worried about the web shop having such a bad name with international customers for some time now and the last drop was a girl sending a really angry letter directly to baby's president, which apparently is a very big deal for japanese.
So they finally decided to put a stop to Tocco-san and her banning freenzy and they banned her from banning people!

>> No.8756802

>>8756793
but wasn't a case of a ban just a few weeks ago?
That girl that wanted to reserve a print in a cretain color, but this color wasn't available and they wanted to force her to take the pink colorway. As she refused they banned her.

Anons....how long does an item last on rakuten in general?
An anon linked me to my dream dress on tokyo alice, but I have to wait until next month to buy it. Am I going to miss it yet again? I was so close I could taste it this time, and I never see that colorway.

I don't think you can really predict that. A month is a very long time so it's very possible someone will buy it before you do, but things I'd wanted have stayed in stock for quite a while in the past so you can't know for sure. Depends on how sought after the dress is, I guess.

Ah man, it's only 27k yen.
I could get it, but I don't want to drain my account mid-month.
Thanks for letting me know anon, I'll watch it and hope no one buys it.

Yes, I read about that ban >>8756802 was talking about too. How recently did they get rid of Tocco?

I'm really happy if it's true. I've always been a big fan of BtSSB in particular but had to resort to shopping services if I wanted to buy directly from Japan.

How long should I wait for a seller to reply before flagging a sale on LM? I won the bid nearly five days ago and I haven't heard from them, even after sending a polite message with my shipping information. Am I being too impatient? I've never had to wait this long before...

>> No.8757022

How worth it are IW's happy packs usually? I dont like the idea of random picked items if I end up not liking/selling it and the AATP one is looking mighty fine. I'm also kinda waiting out on AP's reveal...

>> No.8757023

>>8757012
I have no idea how sought after it is, haha. I've only ever seen it sell on LM twice...but it always sell for around 230ish. So maybe everyone just keeps theirs but it doesn't have high resale value?
Thanks for answering anons, I'm keeping it bookmarked.

You aren't being too impatient, a week is long enough for them to at least send an invoice. Maybe send another message telling them you'll flag if no reply? Check your sent messages and see if they read your last one.

Have you ever bought something you knew was probably overpriced? One of my dream dresses is available now at what I'm pretty sure is quite a bit above market value, but it doesn't come up often and I can afford the asking price. I don't want to feel like a chump, but I also really want the dress...

>> No.8757037

>>8757025
Looks like they haven't read it. It's not something super expensive, just a taobao brand salopette, but it's cute, and I was hoping to have it sooner rather than later. I'll send another message and wait a couple more days, I guess.

Normally I would say they're worth it but lately many of them had quite a few of those Rozen Maiden collab pieces that never seem to sell well, as well as a few frumpy looking cutsew OPs. If you generally like IW's designs and are willing to take the risk of getting something you won't like at all, I'd say you should go for it.
AatP's is more of a set than a lucky pack, but if you like the print and the matching items, and you prefer to know exactly what you're getting when you're buying something, go for AatP.

Try e-mailing them, there should be a link next to their username on the listing you bought. Sometimes LM doesn't send notifications for messages and such, it's happened to me several times.

If you really, really, really want to own it and don't need to starve after paying for it, why not?
You might not get all your money back when reselling, of course, but that's life.

I've never paid more than retail for secondhand brand but I have bought pieces that I knew were a bit overpriced because I wanted them and wasn't sure I'd find them again.
If the dress is grossly overpriced for no particular reason (meaning, it's not a rare or popular piece or print) you might want to think twice about it but otherwise it's entirely up to you. If you want it so much, have the money for it and you're willing to pay whatever the seller is asking for it (whether it's overpriced or not), then just go for it.

i'm surprised- quite a few anons including myself are after the rozen maiden sets. fwiw, i'd drop my pp email right now if anyone was looking to get rid of a shinku or hinaichigo set from a pack.

>>8757034
yes, i've purchased a lot of things above market value (not a big deal, stuff depreciates over time anyways). it all depends on your situation, sometimes i need stuff asap or something like that. on that note though, i don't really support blatant scalping (e.g. people who buy popular new releases and list them for like 1k+ the next day).

Yeah, I think you're right. I've actually haven't seen it come up in this cut/color since I've been looking, and the dollar is so strong right now that the actual cost to me is something I'm fully willing to pay. I'd feel kind of stupid if I passed and found it later for a "better" price but the exchange rate had tanked. It's also a brand I wear as everyday clothing so I don't really resell it. (And after the really shitty week I've had, I want a treat.)

I don't think so. Pointed toe shoes rarely feel lolita imo, plus they're flats, plus they have a sort of utilitarian sandal-y feel to them with the materials and design. There are plenty of lace-up lolita shoes but these are more like a beach shoe than a classic one.
