Unless you have super thick and relatively long hair as misako it won't work anyway.
But for those simple waves, just braid your hair overnight.
Or get a wig with these waves.

Requesting no-heat tutorials for relatively fine shoulder-length hair with straight bangs for someone who absolutely sucks at hairstyling pretty please. Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong with my fine motor skills because I can hardly even braid my own hair properly.

Hair in that length is indeed a little difficult to braid, especially if you're not used to it. It's just sth you need to train over and over again until you're good at it.

Other than that, if your comm says: just get a wig. Ask them, if they'll help you styling it.

I use 2-3 large curved bobby pins, around 4inches, and then supplement with a bunch of regular ones. I usually dont have a problem. The downside is that the large pins tend to stick out a bit so I usually do this hairstyle with a big bow or other kind of headdress.

My guess is to make some loose, volumous curls, tease them, and just roll them up. Pin in place, use texturizing hairspray. The hat definitely helps hide any mess you made with the pins.

how do you guys style your wigs? I have a bad habit of cutting the bangs and just wearing it down. the hair always feels too heavy/complicated to style in up dos. do you do it while wearing the wig or on a stand first?

I usually style it on my head, unless it involves plaiting or anything that could reveal "parts" in back. Then I do it on a wig head. I like doing twin braids with thick wigs, and covering the gaps with a beret or boater hat best. But I've done a couple of updos by working in half wigs, extensions, and sneaky overlapping of wefts. Cyperous had some handy tutorials on their site years ago for temporary and permanent restyles. They might still be there.

I have cow licks which makes having bangs a big challenge (I know it's not impossible but I don't want to spend hours fighting with my hair). So requesting cute hairstyles that don't require perfect bangs. Bonus points if you don't have to have super long hair to achieve the look (my hair is like a couple inches below shoulders). I will dump some of the ones I have found as well.

Whenever I see hairstyles like these the accompanying text always says that they have put a tonne of products on it to give the hair tooth, and some of them have curled the hair first so that it has some body. That's probably the biggest key to getting hair to twirl.

Anyone have any ideas saved of simple braid styles for medium-long hair? Not super fancy evening updo's but anything up or down that's fancy enough for a lolita coord. I'm trying to find new ways to do small braids that wrap into buns/bigger braids, partial up/down looks and other elegant, tidy looks like that.

These sort of waves happen to me on accident when I'm in a hurry curling my hair.

I use a curling iron that you wrap a piece of hair around (not the ones that clamp onto it), then wrap a piece and I don't hold it there long enough to get an actual curl.

Maybe it's a way to do it, or just weird chance that it happened to me.

Does anybody here do rag curls? How well do they hold/how much of a pain are they to do?

There used to be a 'lolita natural hair' tag on tumblr, but it's dead now.

I'm the same as you and I usually try to fake some bangs, but if you wear sweet I think it's probably much easier to just cut a fringe in and be done with it.

I love rag curls, I used to do them almost everyday. They stay for a really long time too, when I was younger I would keep them for days. Pretty much until you get your hair wet again. There is an art to them, too much hair on one twist and you get waves instead of curls, too little and you'll wind up with an Afro.

I've done them before. If your hair is collar-bone height or shorter, grab more hair into one roll than you think you need, because you will get clown hair otherwise.
I have fine hair that can't hold heat-styled curls for shit (w/mousse & hairspray), and rag curls last me for 2 days on just mousse.

As for being a pain - your arms might get tired, I guess?
Whenever I try to start wrapping my hair around the rag, the ends splay out/ escape as I roll, or fold so I get kinks on the ends; what I find helps is folding a piece of toilet paper over the ends of my hair to start the wrap (kinda like how people put foil on their hair when they dye it).

Google some images of the end result - the curls end up being really intense.

This. I can never find fake bangs that match my hair color well enough to be natural looking. I have very dark, almost natural black hair- but all the dark brown/natural black clipin bangs I've ever seen have a very reddish tone to them while my hair has a very golden tone and a noticeably different texture as well.

It really bugs me when I can tell someone is wearing an obvious bang piece and I've seen girls who were already good at styling their natural hair take the advice from here and start wearing them when it really does not suit them... I don't think it's a blanket solution.
