People keep trying to start Gyaru threads but it never turns out well, I feel like the fashion is dying...

That being said I really want to try gyaru, particularly Himekaji/Himegyaru. I don't know where to start, or what to start by getting; I'm always afraid dresses or skirts will be way to small for me...

That and my wardrobe is a mess of styles

>> No.8634121

>>8634109

I'm pretty new to 4chan, so I didn't know that :/

Anyway, it depends on the size you have. If you are not 'larger' than a European M, most of the dresses and skirts will fit you. Blouses, shirts, etc will depend on your breast size and shoulders, some may be pretty tight -.-;

For both styles I'd recommended blonde (there are many varieties)hair/wigs. For himegyaru, most girls have big hair (pricilla half wigs or amazing hair skills). Himekaji can be more toned down, wavy or sth.

My wardrobe is a bunch of various styles too omg especially because I buy sth and then I'll wear it for the next ten years, because I can't say good bye to anything

I'm a European size XS/S top, and a size S/M bottom. I'm 165 (5'5") I'm concerned about the length of the garments though, I really don't like to have something so extremely short that when I bend over my butt is showing... That's what has deterred me from buying (also the price, but my concerns are the same with taobao brands)

And yeah, I like a looot of really different styles, and I dress according to my mood, so I don't have a personal style. I am into goth/cute stuff, mori, and gyaru...

>>8634109
Start with the make-up. Lots of gyaru will tell you, you can wear anything and still be gyaru as long as your make-up, hair and nails are on point. Start by getting the lenses, lashes, and a good contour kit, then a wig - I'd recommend Prisila or Lockshop for those styles, and THEN work on clothes.

Your size makes it pretty easy I think. I'm about 170cm and skirts will still cover my butt. The besr thing is that loads of skirts have insewn shorts other then that, I can recommend you bloomers (not poofy loli ones, but casual ones with some frills or lace)

>start with make-up
oh my god this thread is so shitty already
Start with clothes and hair and normal cute makeup. Then move onto nails and then see if you want to try out crazy lashes or whatever. But clothes come first.
>>8634109
They don't have to be Liz Lisa or even Japanese, but study how the style looks, look at some jfash magazine scans, find some styles you like. Learn your real measurements (not "size M") and look at the sizes online when you buy things. Some things won't fit, even if you're in the measurements. So you just sell it or pass it on to a friend. That's just life.
You can get stuff that fits the aesthetic at places like forever 21 or H&M but the prices are virtually the same online.
Start with versatile basics, such as cute blouses, socks, shoes. You can get these on ebay or taobao for cheap. Then get some skirts and dresses and bags and the like. You can get more ebay and taobao, or you can try japanese brands like LL and Dreamvs.
You can wear the same shirt, socks, and shoes with a different dress everyday, and no one will care, but if you wear the same dress with different accessories, people will ask why you're wearing the same outfit. So get quality and versatile basics.

I'm getting into Himekaji too! It's exciting.
You can find a lot of Liz Lisa stuff used for much cheaper on eBay. I find that while a lot of Liz Lisa stuff goes out of style, the true himekaji stuff is more timeless, so even buying something quite old can still look nice.

If you're worried about the length of the skirts, I'd suggest getting a lot of safety shorts (the frilly and/or lacey type)
In a lot of cases, seeing lace peeking out from under the skirt will look cute and intentional anyway, and it'll make it look like a longer skirt than it is. The biggest problem is making sure that the dresses fall on your natural waist line. I'm 5'3" or 5'4"ish and the dresses usually fall a bit above my natural waist line which isn't the most flattering thing. Skirts/sukapan/jsks and blouses will be a great workaround for this.

There's still pretty active sales communities for these styles, so if you get something and it doesn't fit you should be able to sell it again without too much difficulty, so feel free to take risks sometimes!

As far as himekaji resources, I've found two blogs which I like as well as running one myself.
lizlisaemiliejapan.blogspot
emiiichan.blogspot
pjhime.blogspot

I'd love to start some kind of a hime blog ring at some point. Does anyone have any blogs to add to this list or have any interest in becoming part of that?

Replying to bait right now, but this eye makeup isn't a thing anymore. Just like ganguro. It's time to let go.
There's still contouring and highlighting and big false lashes, but other than that, it's just like any other makeup.
Also, please stop posting inspiration of a style you don't dress in and don't even know where to buy it. This is all really outdated or just straight bad.

>> No.8634276

>>8634255

Well, what you're posting here is larme kei which is not gyaru, but an own fashion for itself.

Gyaru might not be as popular as it was, and there are many toned down styles by now, but that doesn't mean sth is outdated. If someone likes a certain style of make then they're free to do it and free to use it as a rec especially if it's well made.

The nice thing abt gyaru is that it has so many variations by now, so you're free to choose what you like.

>> No.8634291

>>8634276
There are a lot of variations, but most of them are out of style by now. Gyaru is about wearing the latest trends. It's not like Lolita where you can be a Classic Lolita for years, you have to keep up to date with your variations.

>thinking that's gyaru
That's literally larme you're posting. Gyaru is pretty much dead, sure, but it still has basics. The make-up magazine scans were posted by someone else, in any case. But larme is not gyaru, and any good gal or gal comm will tell new gals to start with the make-up. Even a lot of himekaji shop girls wear the lashes and contour. I'm not saying everyone has to wear manba, but the contour, lashes and lenses are essential, or else it's just not gal. You have to respect the old rules and wear it came from, and do your research. Trying to bait people into self-posting is not going to work.
>this eye make-up isn't a thing
>that's Xin, who wears gyaru now
>look at GAL VIP
If you don't like the crazy make-up, don't wear it. But if you wear make-up like in your pic, you are not gal. It's as simple as that. It's like not wearing a petti in lolita, or wearing Hot Topic shit. You might like it, but it's not lolita. Basically everything >>8634276 said.

>> No.8634297

>>8634291
The point of gyaru is to be the opposite of Japanese beauty standards. So, natural make-up. Black Diamond are still going. People still wear old school lolita, with unmatching shoes and maxi pad head dresses, but that doesn't mean it's not lolita. You can't go around saying "make-up isn't important in gyaru!" posting photos of larme-kei make-up. If you want to be larme, go be larme. That's what's in style. But don't go round offering advice when you don't know shit.

>> No.8634308

>>8634291

Well, if you say gyaru is 'to follow recent trend' let's think abt what is a recent trend in the Japanese gyaru scene: the come back of kuro styles aka bd, queens sisters, tiara, schwarz weiss etc, and agejo is still a thing and is even popular enough to revive koakuma ageha. So, those styles can't be too outdated among the scene.

Sure these styles may not be popular among all Japanese ppl or whatever, but they're popular among the scene we're talking about

>> No.8634321

Isn't that picture everyone is calling Larme from Liz lisa? So it's himekaji isn't it?

Obviously there is overlap but don't dismiss it as just larme not gyaru at all because it has the potential to be both. Himekaji is like the tamest you can get with gyaru though I will concede that.

Picture from one of the recent Liz lisa staff snaps to illustrate my point. A lot of himekaji brands seem to be toning it down more and more, maybe hats why you can find them in Larme so often? We may see himekaji turn away from gyaru and move more towards Larme styling. As of right now though I still consider himekaji a part of gyaru.

Personally I wouldn't class Liz Lisa as gyaru at all any more, but you do have a good point. What with all the pom poms they're bringing in, I would say they're becoming a larme brand in any case, copying Swankiss. I wouldn't look at that and call it gal. I think as a newbie you have to learn how to do the make-up before you can explore different styles and decide, because then you have the basic skills and background knowledge.

>> No.8634344

When you look at himekaji now, it's leaning way more towards larme styles than hime styles. If you look at himegyaru, and himekaji, and larme, larme and himekaji have more in common than himekaji and himegyaru.

>> No.8634345

>>8634330

Well, himekaji is so watered down from what gyaru actually is anyway.

Also some from the above have mentioned it: for gyaru a huge point is the makeup! If you wear the dress you posted, doing gyaru makeup, you can easily turn it into himekaji. But as you mention, it can also be larme. From what I've seen of larme so far, the main point of the make is to plaster your whole eye/cheek/nose area with pink blush, wear natural lashes and stuff like that. It's cute and some say it's inspired or even a substyle of gyaru.
I personally think that it's cute, but let's talk about gyaru in this thread aka, agejo, hime, rokku, kuro etc and leave larme kei out since larme has it's own thread already

Guys... Larme is just a magazine. Even though people have turned it into a style of it's own... it's still a magazine that features many different styles. It does feature himekaji just a little bit (in issue 17, there's a perfectly himekaji outfit in an ad on one of the first pages, for example). But that doesn't mean that it's been somehow claimed by larme and can't be gyaru anymore just because it was featured in the magazine a few times.
Himekaji stems from gyaru. It has always been considered gyaru. Now that larme is featuring some himekaji in their pages, it is still gyaru. Could it also be considered larme? Well, sure. Larme-kei is an amalgamation of cute styles for girls in their early to mid twenties.

>Wasn't there some other stupid-ass style that was literally just a store in Japan, but it became a "style"?

The Virgin Mary --> cult party kei
Grimoire --> dolly kei
Spank! --> fairy kei

Take your pick. Mori girl was also a small trend picked up by a magazine (Spoon?) and they ran with it. Gyaru seems to me like a more organic type like lolita (used to be anyway).

I do like the current himekaji and Larme trend way more than older style gyaru but there have already been threads for both lately.

Cult party kei is what I was thinking of. Everyone hated me for calling it stupid, and now the style's dead. Stuff like larme/himekaji/cultparty/dolly/creepycute(tumblr) is basically wearing cute stuff that you like. I don't think every little substyle needs rules (or a name for that matter) like lolita, for example, does.

I was into wearing mori stuff for the longest time and I just called it "foresty girl bs" in my head. Weebs.

>> No.8636070

>>8636067
They don't need rules but there are general themes and aesthetics to follow, otherwise the style names would be superfluous and unnecessary.

I mean in the end you could say the same about gyaru. It too is just cute shit that girls like. But it's a certain kind of cute shit.

I remember being obsessed with the hime gyaru stuff dreamv came out with, I would spend hours going through their website. I'm so mad now that I finally have the money to buy from them that they don't do cute hime gyaru stuff anymore, it's all boring browns and himekaiji stuff.... I wish hime would make a come back. Also, does anyone have any pictures of really old Liz Lisa stuff, back when they were a genuine hime gyaru brand? I'm interested in seeing how they've changed.

The substyles definitely make a certain kind of aesthetic when you put it all together a certain way, but sometimes I feel like /cgl/ just goes way too far and tries to make a substyle out of absolutely any outfit someone puts together.

Maybe I'm just old and cranky and frustrated with larme.

>> No.8636085

>>8634480
Basically this. Gyaru's changed so much that it's relatively easy for LL to make both himekaji and larme without having to radically change their aesthetic. It's good, imo, because the clothes can (depending on the piece) fit both styles with only a change of makeup and hair. It's easier than oldschool gyaru, that's for sure.

>> No.8636167

>>8636085

I don't think that oldschool gyaru is in anyway difficult, because the first girls who did this style were pretty much free to choose what they wear with it (see pics above). I think the modern styles, such as himekaji, larme as well as the foreign 'comm' made it all a little difficult. The difference between the watered down styles are very soft. Plus if the comm doesn't like your eyeline you can mever become a true gyaru *feel my sarcasm in this last part*

I have couple of sukapans, which are of great quality, but I also own the Nutcracker dress and I had to correct zipper placement (the fabric wrinked terribly in that area). I'm happy with my Ank Rougue and Amavel items (not 100% gyaru, but often used, so I include them), however some Ank Rouge fabrics pile very easily. I don't hve much bad to say about Swankiss, the only two things, which comes to my mind, are some poor design choices (like placing big pink tag on otherwise white-blue item in a way, that's always visible, wtf?) and smell... i liked sui as a hime gyaru, now i think she looks sort of trashy as "black sui princess". i remember watching her room tour/outfit shot videos a few years ago and being a bit jelly of all the cute things. (not a gyaru, i am lolita, but an 'outsider' opinion i suppose.) all the gaijin hime gyarus all seemed to up and vanish at/around the same time, whats up with that? i think mydarlingrainbow on tumblr is the only self-proclaimed hime gyaru (i believe!) i follow/see. it seems like hime is mostly dead and i would have liked to get into it one day when i lost weight. so disappointing.

The problem with hime is that itls even more expensive than the other stuff and even less wearable especially in western countries (which are oh so liberal, everyone can wear what they want, but donlt wear sth the crowd doesn't like).
Also it's not only super expensive, the quality of various items is relatively low. For expample if you compare the material and how it's sewn together to the lolita stuff. Lolita stuff is done so well, while gyaru stuff is expensive and low quality (surely not all the stuff is, I have some pretty nice pieces, but definitely a lot).

I think now also there's so much more himekaji on the market/shown that even girls who want to be hime find it easier and cheaper and more accessible than hime, so end up diverted over into that territory, which is really sad. Take that girl in the draw thread who thought she was hime but was himekaji. They try, but it's so much easier to be himekaji they end up there.

Can anyone tell me if Liz Lisa restocks anything no longer shown on their website? I'm just getting into them and fell in love with a piece I planned on getting but don't see listed anymore. TOM has it but the color I want is sold out.

>> No.8658960

My waist can fit most skirts but my bust is too big to fit a lot of dresses and tops, especially Liz Lisa which sucks because they're my favorite. Does anyone know any brands that tend to carry more than M/Free size or are more forgiving in the bust? I love the Datura dresses but I doubt those will fit :(

>> No.8658978

>>8658960

A lot of ll stuff is super stretchy and come in different sizes. Not only free.i have somewhat 98cm bust and I still fit.

Anyway, the other brands are probably even worse. I have some LL size mars pieces and the only thing which is bigger is the dress but not the damn cup size. Like the dress is for a fatty Japanese girl with no boobs? What even.

Just look out for stuff which has stretch, than it'll fit. Unless you've boobs like delandra

>> No.8658979

Never heard of them restocking. But maybe try Japanese second hand sites for the stuff you search. Especially liz lisa is sold for nothing compared to it's original price when it comes to second hand. Got some pieces for not more than 8€ which have been originally more than a 100€

I have a 98-100cm bust also! I can only fit into LL dresses if they're stretchy or have shirring in the back. But yeah I know what you mean, sometimes I find that going up a size makes the waist bigger but the boobs are still the same lol

Liz Lisa always notes bust size at 82cm, but it's not always true. I have dresses which were listed as that, but I can easily fit them at 95cm bust. Just look for ones with shirring or a bit loose in that area. Don't rely on fabric being strechy, as that makes most of cuts look disorted and making it obvious the dress is too small.

>> No.8660271

>>8659565
Ahh you're right. Thanks for the advice! I'm going to Japan for the first time soon so I think it'll help to see the dresses up close too. Whenever I've ordered online it's been 50/50 on the fit.

early gyaru was heavily influenced by western 90s fashion/style but modern gyaru is very much it's own style. The gyaru comms in Japan that still follow the OTT tan styles are kinda cult-like, too. Probably b/c they're fringe styles that aren't embraced by the mainstream so they struggle to be able to be themselves and whatnot. It's kinda sad tbh.
