Post your favourite outfits, items, brands, shops that carry things suitable for the style! Anything Larme is welcome, even self-posts.

Pic is very related as it's my dream dress from Swankiss.

So what's the main concept behind this style?

To me it looks like that tumblr nymphette stuff, or PJs and lingerie as clothing. Am I off base?

I think that it's mainly based off of typical outfits seen in the magazine Larme. When I think of Larme-kei I think of Swankiss. Lots of textures, hearts, platforms and ruffles.

I don't think that it has much to set itself apart as an actual "kei". The style is pretty typical of what's popular now in general - I don't see much difference between this and what average teens buy here from Top Shop or H&M or F21

No especially not after watching that Kawaii International video, and seeing Haruna Nakagori explaining the themes behind some if her photo shoots (like momento mori and so on). So does general Japanese teen fashion at the moment. H&M/F21 are foreign and therefore not good examples, but go to any popular Japanese shop and this is the stuff you'll see (and have been seeing for like a year, year and a half).

>> No.8613010

Using the brand names and search terms on taobao brings up a lot of listings with "Japanese shopping" In the name, at high prices (for taobao) I'm guessing these are bought from Japan by a shopping service? (I can't read any of the text from the listing because they're images, not text) but knockoffs must exist because I see storeenvy shops selling them.

I'm guessing ordering this way rather than directly from Japan through a shopping service would be really expensive and a waste of time?

Here's the k.i. video on Larme magazine. If the link dies let me know, I have mirrors. Basically the style is a super sweet and girly take on current trends. It has a little bit less of the "coyness" of Western nymphet fashion.

And if anyone can actually find this stuff in f21 or h&m then please direct me, because all I see at those stores is basic shit. You could maybe get a few staples but it would be hard to pull a full outfit from them.

You're very pretty!

I have to agree with the comments that your hair is a little flat. Did you try to curl it at all? I think the ribbon look would be cuter if it looked more woven, but right now it's just being run straight down which makes your hair look even more flat. You might need thicker strands of hair woven in with the ribbon to hold it up better. I don't think cutting it is necessary, just needs to be better styled. I struggle with this myself, since I have waist length hair. It's hard for me to find products that have the hold I want without being too crunchy. Hmm, maybe you could try one of Larme's updos or half updo styles? You have plenty to work with.

As for makeup, maybe a little heavier blush? But I may just not be able to see the makeup well due to photo quality. And if you're just wearing this as your daily style and not to take glam shots for tumblr then less makeup is fine. Heavier makeup tends to be the only way to make it show up in photos but it's not always appropriate for real life.

cont, I've also been trying to keep thread alive by posting pictures, but that doesn't really start discussion...

Right now what I'm looking into is work appropriate Larme looks, things with longer silhouettes, pencil skirts, more subdued colors, etc. I work in a semi professional environment, so it's note really that strict except for modesty codes. Larme is the first jfashion style I've found that I really thought I could translate into my work wardrobe. I had thought about getting into classic lolita for work, but I don't want to deal with the layers. Larme seems like a good fit, especially the latest issue.

I suppose it's still a little boring, but it's more interesting than my current work wardrobe, which is basically black pants with whatever blouse I can find that's clean.

It's not hard to wear skirts in winter even if it is that cold. Thick, thermal tights and some cute thick boots will help, and you could layer thinner tights over (or under) those. You could also put warm socks under the boots, and wear some thick safety shorts.

There's so much wrong with this from just skimming the makeup issue.

The Larme makeup is pretty much just a step up from the natural fresh faced makeup.
>no heavy bottom liner
>more natural, cut and applied to the corner or no lashes
>bright blush should be a lot more blended around the edges and is dragged across more below the eye

Somehow her lipstick looks terrible but that's the only part of this even close to larme.

If you can afford it, I'd get one piece you really like from a Larme associated brand and then work an outfit around that. You an find some knockoffs on taobao too if you really can't afford them. Just search by the brand and see if anything comes up. Still best to buy from the source of you can.

If you need to go the off brand route, then focus on pieces with lots of girly details like ribbons, ruffles, bows, etc. Vintage clothing is especially good for this. I remember discussing this a little bit last thread, but Westerners will need to go the extra mile to make an outfit seem "Larme." Just throwing on pastels won't work.

Keep in mind that you're going for a girly but not childish look. Tone down pastels with black, keep the look modest (even when wearing shot skirts), follow the makeup guides. This is where Kate, for example, is failing miserably.

I'll try to come up with some more concrete examples later.

I would say it is a romanticised retro fashion, taking only aspects that fit the innocent and youthful yet demurely sexual aesthetic of the fashion. Taking classic patterns and features like the gingham, lacing and thick knit and then mixing them with already popular silhouettes and aspects of jfashions and even the Chinese soft sister. With the muted colours it looks like it is taking more from a vintage, faded look more than what people where actually wearing at the time. It even seems like they are appealing more to the 'feel' the era more than exactly what the fashion was, like some closing seeming like it takes inspiration from things like the advertisements, films and such rather than directly from the actual clothing.

Or simple version, if harajuku fashion was in 1950's america and everything had a washed out instagram filter.

This. I've noticed that alot of pieces resemble 1940s fashion and some resemble even edwardian dresses. Pic related is Mon Lily, this really looks 40s style to me.

Here's my take on what makes things Larme:
>Vintage(40s, 50s, and 60s) clothing elements
>Lingerie/nightwear clothing elements
>Himekaji clothing elements
>Muted and neutral colors(occasionally with bright red)
>Hyper feminine and quirky accessories
>Girly styled hair
>SOFT, girly makeup(unlike Kate's)

She sent it. For anyone who can't read it;
"I would like to explain what a 'girly' fashion is from my perspective. I will also include some keywords that is used in the magazine [LARME]. As an introduction, I will state what a girly fashion is. According to Japan's 'girly fashion', being 'Dolly' is an important element, and essential. For example, making the legs look long by using a high waist bottoms, and a balance of exposure.*
There will be a contrast of style using frills and flares to show the clear bodyline as well. These methods will emphasize slender waist, neck and legs which leads to an overall 'girly' fashion. Ribbons and check pattern shirts/bottoms are symbolic for 'girly' fashions too. As a fact, there is another fashion style that's beyond 'girly'. In general it's called 'Lolita'.
For the second facts about girly fashion, is the hairstyle. It focuses on the forelock**, and the atmosphere around the face. The cute girl will show the natural type of being girly. The importance of hair color, affects how girly you would want to show out. Instead of bright colours, dark and grey-ish calm color will turn you into a calm and settled person.
As for the facial make-up, natural colors for skins, then add some colour on lips, cheeks and eyes, which will multiply the cuteness. These make ups are a necessity when showing girly faces to people. It will look cute and wanting men to protect you***.
In conclusion, these fashion, make-ups, and hairstyle are my perspective to what a 'girly' fashion is. It is a unique Japanese style of being 'girly' and I guarantee that trying on these types will turn you into a 'girly' girl.

>* by "balance of exposure", she's referring to exposing skin
>** forlock = bangs
>*** I'm fairly sure she is referring to men wanting to protect you, not you wanting it.

aside from the unfitting makeup and lack of theme, to me the main problem is that her coords are too ott. i feel like a certain degree of simplicity is required for an outfit to look larme.
anything too cluttered pushes the outfit into fairy kei territory at best, or just ends up looking like a huge indefinite mess at worst.

That's really cool that they included that. This excerpt, combined with the kawaii.i episode, seems to show that they're aware of the growing interest by foreigners in the magazine. Hopefully we'll see more brands market to foreign audiences (like going to cons and such). I know we'll never be the main targets, but it's nice to be noticed.

I get what she's going for. It's obvious that she takes from Swankiss. They are definitely the OOT of Larme, which is part of why I'm not too fond of them. It doesn't surprise me that newbies would latch on to that just like itas latch onto print vomit sweet lolita. Instead of starting slowly they dive right in and it ends up looking like shit. And I'm not just ragging in Kate here, I have seen other girls in the Larme tag on tumblr do this shit too.

As for Kate, she lacks the delicate balance that Swankiss staff outfits have. She would really benefit from the "look at yourself in the mirror and remove one thing" advice. Except for her it's more like five things, at least.

I don't know how to phrase this in a non-pretentious way but I think larme is more dreamy/"arty" or something than gyaru. Larme often uses dark, even morbid themes in its editorials, which I don't think fits with gyaru as much since it's more likely to be bright and glitzy, so the melancholic element is missing. But I guess they're not totally unrelated as fashions since they share brands and the editor used to work on Koakuma Ageha.

Do you think it would be acceptable to use fluffy jumpers with bunnies on them in larme? I bought two recently - a white one with two gray bunnies (with the backs of the bunnies on the back as well as pom poms for their tails) and a pink one with a very big head of a bunny in the middle. Combining pastels with fluff and bunnies I thought it would work great with larme but then I realised that most knits in larme tend to be more discrete (in terms of graphics) and usually just use tshirts with a but of writing at most. What do I do, how do I work them?
