let's talk about our pet peeves. i'll start.
>pic related

>> No.8623607

Newbies who don't get that they're newbies, so aren't qualified to say shit to anyone. If you own less than three coords, I respectfully motion that you should go fuck yourself instead of giving other newbies wrong information.

There's also a girl I'm in a comm with who's forever buying brand that's a hell of a long way from fitting her, and then complaining because nothing fits her. The measurements are on the listing, girl, you're not getting any pity from me. You knew they wouldn't fit.

>> No.8623608

What the hell is with people talking as if they are lolitas when they don't own anything lolita related? I hate that people have some sort of weird thing that the fashion is an identity or something and that they are still a lolita even if they don't dress it or have any clothes or anything. Honestly since when did lolita become a "cool thing" to just say you are.

>> No.8623623

>>8623608
Usually it's girls that can't afford to have anything lolita and admire it from afar, they think they're 'lolitas at heart!'
They want to be a real lolita but they can't afford to be, so 'lolita at heart' is the next best annoying thing.

>> No.8623684

I think I may have just one:
>walking against the wind so my petti tucks between my legs
That shit drives me up a wall every time it happens and sometimes my petti will tuck between my legs without wind.
Getting it back to normal always requires awkward shuffling.

Reminds me of that one girl from some months back giving out advice on how to create lolita outfits on a budget, when she was new and badly dressed herself, and was suggesting skater dresses as cheaper lolita dress replacements. Then got a huffy and butthurt when she got told why her advice is bad.

This girl has been coming to my comm's meets on and off for the past two years because she wants to "get into lolita". I know she's won prizes of clothes at meets before but she never comes in lolita.
Like if you're coming to the meets, wear the clothes. It's been seriously long enough.

My comm really doesn't have much drama at all. I know of stuff that happens and people that do stir shit online, but they're all talk and look like shit themselves. But compared to the drama I see at other conventions, our comm is a placid lake.

Pet Peeves:
>People asking the same damn questions. "is lacemarket, bodyline, milanope clone, safe to buy from?"
>Plus size girls who stuff themselves into anything and complain that people are bodyshaming when they say they look bad or offer assistance in helping to make them look nicer. Please, I'm big myself but I never look downright terrible even if my coord is a little off.
>I have sensitive skin so I can't wear makeup. You most likely can, but you can't buy cheap shit and you need to test it before settling on a good product. This means effort, money, and learning.
>All the armchair lolitas that exist in anonymous communities like this, judging everyone because I'm sure their collections of collages are an indicator of how perfect they would look if they actually could afford the fashion. Honey, anyone can put together a collage, finding the items and finding out the color matches perfectly or fits as intended is another story entirely.

Newbie here. Does this also apply to short hair, or is the only acceptable natural hair long? I've seen a lot of girls with short hair get posted on cgl and get shit on for not wearing wigs.

>> No.8625951

>>8625947
Girls who get posted for that kind of hair usually have hair that doesn't go with the coordinate, thus making it look jarring.
Recent example was that girl in the navy Milky Cross OP wit the super shirt silver hair. It just didn't go with the OP at all, or lolita aesthetics in general. Masculine haircuts just don't work with the super girly aesthetics, nor do unnatural hair colors that don't match with the coordinate.

But, consider how in this thread we're already boggling over why newbies think a wig is mandatory because that's somehow the only thing they focus on in the ita thread and not the bajillion other complaints about any ita outfit, or just a few weeks ago some idiot newbie tried to make out that dark shoes were mandatory for grounding lolita coords (bull. shit.). There's so many things that newbies get mixed up, remember wrongly, or just outright were told the wrong thing. Can't really blame other girls for being frustrated when they find out they received the wrong info because some newbie with her head up her ass thought it was a piece of cake to shit some lolita words she'd just learned in order to look cool.

Personally I don't really mind if newbies repeat info, so long as they CITE THEIR SOURCE. That way it's obvious that it's not their own info, it's easy to doublecheck what the original source says (we'd blame the newbie less), there's still free flow of information, and the newbie looks less like an idiot if the advice doesn't exactly work out.

School is nearly free in the EU, which is why you don't hear people complain as much. They get out with less debt, so a 30-40k job is not as bad as someone saddled with debt trying to make payoffs on the same salary.

Trying on a pair of jeans? Probably 4 spoons. I understand that these things make life more difficult; I don't go out much and socialize because it takes a lot of my energy. And if someone consistently acts in that way, that's one thing. But if you're complaining about getting through the day on a regular day but can go to cons/burning man/Disneyland/whatever that's generally kind of a situation where it's going to "cost a lot of spoons" so to speak and be fine, I'm going to discount your issues a bit.

>> No.8628333

I had in mind situations where newbies give technical advice, eg- corsets, petticoat, etc. Even something as simple as petticoats, if a newbie says "The handbook recommends an A-line petticoat for a princess seam dress, which I think this is", it's better and more transparent than "This dress needs an A-line". The first one cites the source, takes no responsibility, and still passes along info. The second one implies personal experience and endorsement. Getting an extra petti is no biggie, but consider if they're giving info on body shaping foundation garments, newbies could really hurt somebody by recommending the wrong thing, all because they wanted to "join in" the discussion.

Speaking of colours, though, one of the strange things you can tell newbies apart, they seem to have a disconnect between real life and the monitor. Maybe it's just that they've never seen the items in real life, real lolitas seem to make mental adjustments when they see photos where pastels are too bright to be pastels anymore. Newbies, though. They'd derail half the thread saying green socks don't match the dress, then continue to explain that the socks look green even after being told that they're ivory in real life. So yes, either newbies do need to refer to pantone colours, or at least shut up when told that their colour sense is off and/or the colours are inaccurate.

As for color combinations, yes, it also helps to cite sources, or at least name the colour scheme. Everybody knows a pop of colour, or can google it. Do you know what grounding an outfit is? It's when you add darker elements to an outfit because it looks too light. It works for normies who think pastels are too cotton candy, but it doesn't apply to sweet lolitas. Do you know how the newbies are using the term? At least one said that all outfits need to have darker shoes. If they'd said up front "lolita tips said that", then we could have quickly solved it with "lolita tips is not reliable"

Plus it's legitimate to be frustrated with people using the spoons analogy in lieu of actually communicating with someone. Different anon but I know a fat girl (lolita, so I guess kind of relevant?) who's always talking about how she's been starving herself, even though everyone saw her have a big lunch and eat a full-size Mars bar like five minutes ago. Generally this wouldn't affect me except she makes sure it does, by constantly pointing out how everyone smaller than her "eats so much more" without gaining weight, and from time to time she not-so-subtly implies that all the skinny girls around her must be bulimic. Like if a girl goes to the bathroom after a meal, she points her finger at her throat and wiggles her eyebrows. I can't stand this bitch and wish we could call her out on her shit without being accused of fat shaming or whatever.
