Old one's expired, and I could really use a winter JFash thread right about now. It looks like I might be moving to the northern states soon, but I'm from a state where 50F is considered "freezing" and I have absolute crap for winter clothes and no idea how to dress for snow. Am I doomed to looking like the bastard child of the Michelin man and a chinchilla through the winter months?

Pic related. Saw that there were a few sort of cute-ish feather down coats on aliexpress in the $30-50 range. Think they'd be worth it at all?

This pic was posted and I thought the idea of quilted skirts was super adorable. Any body have links or sources for this sort of thing?

They can be found on Taobao. I think Puppet Circus used to sell them.

If the seller has good reviews, go for it. Feather down coats are a lot more expensive than that where I live and they all look like absolute shit, so if you can snag pic related or something like it, do so. If it's not all that warm, wear layers.
I tend to wear capes and collars over thick tops, and thick tights are a godsend if you want to wear dresses during the winter. I've turned up in skirts and dresses to work in January while everyone else was impersonating a puffball and felt completely comfortable. You can be kawaii and cosy anon, you just need to make sure the state you're moving to doesn't resemble Antartica before you buy stuff, because if it does, you're going to have to go Michelin or freeze.

I am just counting the days until this hot summery weather is over and I can finally start layering with cardigans and capelets. I think lolita is best in fall or spring weather.

Depending on which state you are moving to it doesn't have to be so bad. For example places like Colorado have more snow but are less cold and harsh than NY. Layering under your clothes really help as well as very thick tights. Sometimes even bloomers with thick thigh highs over tights, and petticoat will keep you warm. For the top, an undershirt, long sleeve blouse, jsk and long sleeve cardigan, with a cape or jacket on top.

sorry for the newb question, but what kind of neckline would work best with this? would a peter pan collar look weird? I feel like something ruffly might work as well...

sort of accidentally won it for 100 yen on yj auctions and I'm only just getting into jfash in general, so it left me a little bewildered.

Oregon is the state if that helps any. Thanks for the advice, I think I will look into getting one of those coats. I've also been considering buying a Lolita coat from taobao or F+F and having it lined with faux fur as I think I've heard of some anions doing that before. No idea how much that'd cost me, though, so something more for the future.

I'm from Oregon. Assuming you're not settling in the desolate wasteland of the east part of the state, we usually don't get much snow. Our winters are very rainy so I'd focus on rain-proofing yourself. I wear a lot of tall boots and wool coats since wool is water resistant. The closer you get to the coast, the windier it will be also.

Anybody have links to cute boots and/or fleece lined tights? I'm going to be taking a trip to NY in the winter, and as a Southern US girl, I'm going to be in for a helluva cold time.
