Uchuukei is pretty cute and i kinda like it.
I wish for the whole cutesy retro-futuristic thing to become bigger. I wish there was something such as dressing like 90s anime characters. Sailor Moon casual outfits for example (dont judge me i still like Rei's pink overalls.)

My guess for a new big trend is creepy-cute that's significantly more creepy than cute. Everyone's getting boners over Junji Ito print shirts it seems.

Judging by the threads, Larme is going to be fairly popular. I don't see it hitting other jfashion levels though since it's not as flashy as other styles (well, if you're not wearing swankiss then it's not flashy).

>> No.8576584

I predict after this soft babydoll, nymphet stuff in Larme, we'll see a swing back to darker and edgier styles eventually. I predict a type of gothic revival someday as well.

I think gyaru will also rise from the ashes in some form again, too. It's gotten really out of character as of late. I think anime related goods and otaku culture will get more and more acceptable.

Also, praying for Uchuukei too, OP.

itabags and weeb gear will increase in popularity.

old school will become more popular, but will not be huge.

the OTT classic trend will continue and morph. gothic will not be that big.

i wish gothic (actual gothic, not dark sweet with costumey elements) would make a comeback, but it is not kawaii enough for the current trajectory of lolita. and i wish femme aristo would become a thing again.

Menhera nymphet brands are on the rise currenly so I think nymphet fashion and Larme may fuse with Creepy Cute as menhara shoujo is pretty much mental unstable emo magical girls that are yandere/suicidal/druggies, the Menhera-chan webcomic is very popular, hence the collab with Galaxxxy and Park Harajuku.

I think the futuristic, spacey look will gain popularity in japan. Or at least I *hope*. I'm seeing more and more of it.
meanwhile, on the western jfash scene, this spread of vintage-style classic featuring lots of western "loliables" will continue to gain momentum, simply because it's easier to find retro elements. Due to those similarities with rockabilly we'll see even more plus-size girls flock to the fashion and western lolita will start to really branch apart from japanese lolita.
I really wish real, OTT Jgoth would come back around. Also visual kei. Old OTT neovictorian goth is my favorite look, not the kawaii goffick "look at my purple hair uwu ~~" look but the fierce, aristocratic look.

>And well see a lot of the larme/nymphet/lolicon kei
Whilst I'm sure Tumblrtards might lump larme into a nymphet/lolicon thing I hope nobody here is under the impression that that's exclusively what the fashion is about. It use various films as inspiration for photo shoots and outfits aesthetically including Harry Potter, and Cinderella. The Lolita/50s American diner look is just one influence, the main embracing element in Larme being a sweet girly look and not slutty little daddy's girl type of thing.

>> No.8577805

For your first point I have to disagree, with all these threads being created for uchuu kei there is a lot of exposure of the fashion. Exposure on cgl quickly becomes exposure on tumblr. And tumblr likes to eat any shit up that makes them speeshul snoflaks.

As for your second point, I understand that Larme kei does take its inspiration form different places but from the trends I'm seeing on tumblr I'm willing to bet my money that people e.g. tumblr will only take interest in the nymphet/lolicon portion of the fashion.

it's why shit like "pastel goth" and "strega" exists. temporary fads that get a surge while they are new (even though "strega" is not fucking new at all). people don't want to do something that's been done before, they want to feel part of something emergent, but without deviating too far from mainstream trends.

I somewhat like pastel goth (usually only the accessiories and some clothing at times) but i dislike the fast most of the people wearing it isn't a goth or at least in part. The darkest music they listen is some type of metal or mainstream pop spooky shit.
I'm not even fully goth but man...that is like the new emo.

Otome is gaining popularity in the West and will get bigger. I think it's a reaction to how OTT lolita has become, and I feel like people are yearning for more simplified looks.
The issue is that some of the lolitas dabbling with otome are putting out really watered down coords. I know I'm guilty of it myself, but I feel like the lack of rules otome-kei has is hard for lolitas to grasp. It's also not as matchy-matchy or as safe as lolita which may prove to be a big obstacle.

Oh so now you speak for the entirety of Japan on top of everything else. NOBODY in Japan gives a shit about Tumblr? Quite a few names from Jfashion have Tumblrs such as Juria and Senanan even Larme magazine has a Tumblr. Sure, Tumblr doesn't have the userbase or influence in Jfashion as other Japanese social networking platforms but the point is, when Westerner Tumblr users latch onto a Jfashion it usually gains alot more popularity as a result, so from that standpoint, yes Tumblr does matter. Pic related shows how even Ari the creator of cult party and owner of The Virgin Mary, browses Jfashion tags on Tumblr (screencaps are her reactions to the cult party kei tag on Tumblr from her personal blog) . But nothing you posted had ANYTHING at all to do with Tumblr. For the example of what you just posted, Juria already wore DIY garters and harness way before Yeha started to sell them, hence Yeha used to be a Juria clone.

There is no single case of Tumblr doing anything to jfashion that would have happend without its existence either way,. If Tumblr had any influence to jfashion, lolita wouldn't be called lolita anymore, Larme brands would use nymphet rather than lolita for their book inspired clothes, The Virgin Mary wouldn't have turned into a casualfag store and so on. It is western popculture that /can/ sometimes influence jfashion but not Tumblr in its own.

I never said uchuu kei was jfashion, just that retro futuristic fashion has been part of harajuku for over a decade and the japanese brands posted in the uchuu thread are considering themself retro futuristic.

So I guess I do have to repeat myself and explain in more detail because of hurrdurr can't into basic comprehension skills. I didn't say it was Tumblr on it's own, in response to some idiot saying NOBODY in Japan gives a shit about Tumblr I basically said its naive to think that are NO people in Japan involved in Japanese fashion that they have no contact with Tumblr whatsoever or place no importance in that particular social media, you need to re-read and stop putting words into my mouth, figuratively speaking.

>It is western popculture that /can/ sometimes influence jfashion but not Tumblr in its own.

Well you shot yourself in the foot there, Tumblr is basically an online representation of western popculture, it's a western social media platform.

I get that ; Tumblr isn't the last word in everything that's going on in the U.S. never mind the rest of the western world, but, keeping it Jfashion related, it is a reasonable representation of alot of (not all) westerner's reaction to and version of certain Japanese trends. The fact that Larme magazine, Kumamiki, Senanan, Ikeda Hirari, Juria and other well known names in Jfashion all have Tumblr accounts tells me they have an awareness of this media platform that goes beyond 'not giving a shit' about it (and in turn westerners in general as it is a westerner social media site). I'm not saying and never did say that Tumblr or it's trends has some major influence over them (there are many other forms of media that are more likely to expose them to western pop culture such as pop charts, movies etc) or that it dictates Jfashion in anyway but by virtue of these individuals having active Tumblr accounts, there is precedent for the idea that they MAY come into contact with certain western pop culture elements on there that appeal to them on some level.

That was literally ONE theme for an issue. They still would have used Lolita because it was literally themed around the movie/book. If you're going to act all high and mighty then at least know what you're talking about. If you can't even get jfashion trends right then what the hell do you even know?

Some of them interact with Westerners, like Minori. She talks to people on tumblr and will hang out with them at cons and take pictures. That may not be evidence of taking trends from the West but really, it's not like Japanese people live in a bubble. I think that's painting a rather dismal picture of Japan. Not everyone there is a xenophobe.

>> No.8586849

Yeah, because the brands in Larme only ever used lolita for the theme of one single issue, dream on, best example for that would be everything Amo did model for before her pregnancy.

I 100% agree with you on this. I also had to read back to remind myself of the ORIGINAL original point - gurokawa and menhera will probably be big in 2016; Tumblrinas will probably popularize it and/or trivialize mental illness because 'muh edgey kawaii fashion'; Tumblr does matter and is relevant to this thread as many people here into Jfashion have or follow Jfashion Tumblr accounts and dislike seeing their favourite tags filled with crap; Japan in some measures does give a shit about Tumblr as evidenced by Jfashionista's owning Tumblr accounts but that is not mean Tumblr effects their own fashion choices.

True and anyway the original statement that everyone was saying people would go on a murder spree because guro became a thing sounds silly. When and where did that happen and how is that relevant to Tumblr?

I don't know as far as where jfashion will go, but I'd really like to see more of Uchuukei, I feel like it really falls inline with mainstream fashion trends now and upcoming.
I work for Lord and Taylor and in my position I go through all the lookbooks and merchandising guidelines for the new releases before hand of the brands we carry, and with this last spring season and this current fall season I'm super excited with where fashion in the US I see is going. In handbags, shoes, jewelry, clothing, all of it, they are using a lot of plastic and silicon and going towards a futuristic vib like "in the future" scenes you'd see in movies ~10 years ago(think the fifth element, maybe? futurama even??). It's just so fucking exciting, more and more I see people wearing wigs everyday casually in nontraditional colors or colored lenses or something that just isn't a norm really and is becoming accepted.
Another thing is activewear. It's a booming business right now, and it's really pushing in those bright colors, geometric designs, and form fitting or stiff fabrics. It's really going to shape the way fashion goes, and push us further into that "futuristic" look I was talking about.

You know when you watch old scifi movies that depict the future (basically the year 2000 and onwards) with us wearing futuristic spacey shit, and like its practically 2016 and it still hasn't happened (also no hover cars or robot butlers but that's another subject). It'd be funny if that just started happening now and we went full on Jetsons mode.
Anyway I just remembered who coined the term uchuu-kei and pretty much started it, was westerner fairy kei blogger Serepuff.
