The best approach to Yellow Diamond is going by a full piece of fan art and actually doing it well. The people doing these just aren't putting effort in making a design and putting work into making it look good and like something that would fit in with the other gems. I've seen some nice fan designs, but the cosplay in response is just lazy.

If I cosplayed and OC, I'd actually try to construct something interesting so people can turn heads and ask for pictures or who I'm cosplaying.

I think Peridot's visor just looks a bit odd when it's not as delineated on the face as it is in her in show art.The bright white visor is a shorthand for "this is clear and transparent" in animation but an actually clear visor on a cosplay throws the look of her face off a bit.
I have no idea what one actually does about that however.

I don't understand this either but if I had to guess, it's because her model looks like a solid, non-reflective and opaque substance. Your typical white plexi is going to reflect badly and just doesn't match quite as well whereas the kind of acrylic you see with tinted visors is quite "matte." I'd try to find this type non-reflective acrylic in white or very very very light green.

Thank you. I'm surprised to see that it's actually a fluorescent yellow. The color looks quite a lot better with the green makeup underneath and seems to be consistent throughout all the pictures. Hi, I wasn't sure whether to ask here or recommendations.

I'm a Steven cosplayer and I feel really lazy about it. I have naturally curly, black hair, a half-decent shield, a pink whale plush, and a cookie cat plush. Aside from those, I feel bad about how lazy the cosplay is. I'm currently working on a Laser Light Cannon, but do y'all think there's anything I can do costume-wise to up my game?

I know for a fact they made the Ruby/Sapphire shaped gems from molding a 3D printed model. I talked to the guy who made the original 3D printed ones and they're nearly identical in shape and faceting. Whatever they used to make the actual molds looks really sloppy though.

Here's a clearer picture of what my makeup looked like. It turned out better than what I tried the very first time I wore Peridot but it's still not really what I want so I'm going to do it differently next time. Mostly the eye makeup was the problem I think. It actually was sharper when I first put it on but it kinda melted or something despite me sealing it so I think I'm going to have to look into a different sealer.

Oh, also I did contour and I was wondering if it looks better in this picture or if I should be doing heavier contouring for the future.

Anyways, after I get a new visor I'll do some makeup tests and post them here for feedback. I want to still keep a more androgynous look because I feel that it looks more canon and better for most of the gems so I don't want to do stuff like body glitter or really heavy eyeliner/lipstick etc. Do you guys think a cleaner version of what I've already tried would achieve that if I have the better visor as well?

You can contour and define your eyes without compromising the androgyny you want. It's just with the flat color you lose your facial features in photos. I call it the wall face effect where with one color paint it looks like nostrils and tiny eyes and no other definition.

Different anon but do you have an example of some good facepaint + eye makeup? I always line my eyes and add shadow + some darker contouring around the sockets but I still find that I sstill get the big expanse of color and tiny little eyes effect in my photos. How do I fix this without going overboard with the darkening?

My last makeup test I've done from SU was Jasper, but for fear of the Jasper hate police I won't self post. I have large eyes already, but tend to exaggerate them a bit by shading slightly above my crease just below the height of my brow bone and into my nose slightly. It's a common drag queen technique to make your eyes appear larger by giving a semi shut look. The con to this is you have to do heavy lining of the lash line to hide your natural crease. It's just a matter of creating a new socket line. You could also drop your lower lash line a bit and define your eye slightly lower, but that isn't generally liked by seagulls.

What I usually do is I do some Tim Burton-esque eyeshadow all around my eyes to give depth, add white eyeshadow in the corner of my eyes, extend my eyeliner further than usual, and then add top and bottom eyelashes (I like the look of heavy makeup on me since I do have relatively small eyes. plus it pops out more since makeup tends to wash out in costume). I also like to add blush two or so shades darker than the facepaint so that it doesn't look too bland on the cheeks. Contouring will also help a lot with large, empty expanses. Actually, this sounds like some pretty heavy makeup, but a lot of it will wash off in photos.

I guess just dont be afraid to experiment with makeup-- try going really heavy or just try shading with darker and darker eyeshadows and take lots of photos to see how it looks behind the camera. Its just a matter of not being afraid to see yourself look weird haha

Usually I apply it similarly whether it's body paint or not. I typically airbrush so I can lay down my foundation then contour and chisel out my features or alter them. I always keep in mind how it'll look in photographs so while in person it may look heavy I don't lose my eyes, nose, or lips when flashed with a bright flash or with stage lights. As for exact eye shapes I create it always depends on the character. When I've done Amethyst and Sugilite I try to open my eyes with some white eyeliner on the bottom framed with a blended new lower lash line not too dramatic, but with Sugilite the heavy brows shrink the eye. I also round the top of my eye with a rounder defended socket line. For Jasper I elongate my eye and shade a new socket line blending it into my gem. For the lips I use three colors to slightly overdraw my already huge lips and then shape the outside corners and highlight the inner part of my lips to give a full pucker illusion. Rebecca Sugar has interesting obsession with full lips.

It's fine to walk in them, but don't expect them to feel comfortable, there's literally no flexibility in the sole and some shoe models "roll" a bit from left to right when they're new, so don't push your limits if your feet/ankles start to hurt.

If you'r using them for photos, I don't see why not. (I'm a dancer, and I did pointe for about 15 years. It kills your ankles and your knees. There's a reason a lot of professional ballerinas are retire by like, 30.) But I would not reccommend walking aorund in them at all. It's not what they're made for. Even dancers can hurt their feet wearing them before they're really broken in. Bruises, blisters, pinched and even sprained toes. Sure, it comes from wear and use, but you can get these same injuries just from walking in them. And the toes are stiff, so you don't get the flexibility you need to really roll your foot to walk. But unless you're trained how to properly go up en pointe, I would avoid that all together.

Photos, fine. Casual wear/walking? No. Even 'trained dancers' don't do this.

They can also be pretty expensive, so that's another thing to keep in mind. Do you really wanna drop that much one something you'll only wear for shoots? But that's just my opinion.

If anything I would recommend play shoes [cabaret] or even soft ballet slippers, not ballet flats. I would wear both during musical rehearsals and performances. These are easier to walk in and won't destroy your feet like normal ballet shoes.

Don't use pointe shoes unless you know what you're doing with them. This isn't some sort of elitist sentiment - you'll likely hurt your feet or ankles. Pointe shoes are terribly uncomfortable, especially if you're buying ones that haven't been specially made for your feet.

I love the shine on the forearm, the high gloss look seem perfect for Peridot.

not the anon you were asking, but you can try contouring with eyeshadows instead of face paint. i've used both, and i prefer eyeshadow quite a bit. it gives a softer look and its easier to blend and you can layer them for more opacity.

Different anon; I've tried using eyeshadow, but it kind of rubs off the facepaint as I'm applying it. Maybe it's just the type of facepaint that I use? or maybe I should use my fingers to gently pat it on instead of brushes? I use Tag face paint, which dries very.... dry... if that helps.

oh yeah I'm not the biggest fan of TAG, but i can contour with it. if its rubbing off, try waiting until after it dries, seal it, and then contour with big fluffy brushes without applying too much pressure. then once i finish all the contour i powder it to set it all

I do like how you actually made the bodysuit portion yourself, rather than just buying an inaccurate leotard. If you end up redoing it though, definitely stay away from that organza you used (Joann brand I'm assuming?) - it's pretty much guaranteed to look nightmarish in photos. A higher quality organza will look much better. Also, I'd cut more layers into your wig to get better poof.

Hey there! I'm the one making these gems, thanks for all the compliments. To answer some questions, I had a lot of trial and error with the colour and the backing, I decided to go with a combination of what looks right for a cartoon and what looks good in person. The pink in that one image is a bit blown out due to me using a filter on Instagram, they're less hot in person. I back the gems in white in order to keep them bright and colourful, I tried using a silver backing, but it darkens them too much, and the lack of facts (real gems have tons) means you aren't going to get much glitter anyway.
