Contributing first off by answering my own questions;

The only committee I've every really hung out with in a big way is the Kita Committee and honestly I really like them as people, but as Con-Running People I do think they're disorganised and not always the best. If I had to pick a favourite, I'd probably say Luche, because he's a great laugh and seems genuinely pretty decent. I still think it's a shame Scowny is gone because he was a great guy to hang with too when you got the chance.

I've got lazy/comfortable costumes planned right through 'til the end of the year because I don't have a lot of spare cash at the moment and want to start putting out fewer costumes of higher quality than a lot of costumes that are cheaply made.

I'm not in the country but will be tuning in to footage when I get back. I haven't really asked any of my friends if they're entering but I have a feeling one or two might. We're all a bunch of under-the-radar unknowns though, so I doubt their names would ever come up here

Bit further in advance but the tickets are all but sold out - anyone going to Leicester Comic Con on the 11th October? I'm kind of worried that it's gonna be packed because it's a first con for them, but I'm trying to stay optimistic. They're capping tickets at least.

ECG wise the people entering so far who I've seen announce it online are Ross, Exelia (an old WCS rep), Clockwork Dandy Noodles and LittleBlondeGoth were thinking about it.

Did you or the other anon attend the 'other' Leicester Comic Con? The one in the shopping arcade last year?

I've only seen solo entries. Thought Empires Guild were entering but they seem to be going for WCS instead.

Interesting to see who wins, we don't have many competitive level cosplayers (who want to compete too) in the UK and I think the event location deterred some of the southern cosplayers from entering.

That's so stupid. The problem is running the original venue at the same time as other events so instead of changing date they're changing venue to an entirely different city? As if people didn't already have enough of a reason to avoid their events after the last LFCC.

LSCC and a few others have found loopholes around Excels contract with MCM and now use Excel.

LSCC don't officially have anything that isn't to do with western comics no. It's why the costume competition is 1. Called a costume competition rather than cosplay, because that's another thing mcm owns at excel, and 2. is strict on 'the character has to be in a western comic'

I think being UK based makes it harder to gain international likes for some reason. All the Europeans and Americans like each others pages but 98% of UK cosplayers page likes come from the UK itself.

I've had a quick look at more of them, and there are a few that I think are pretty good.
I like Sephirayne and have done for a few years now because she's so sweet but she doesn't post cosplay too frequently.
Aretsaya looks pretty okay, and Angelophile too.
I'd never really heard of her before but I love Hildaglitz.
I've always had a bit or a girlcrush on Moonlily.
I've heard of Megabethbob a lot but I've never really had an opinion on her but her stuff actually looks pretty good.
Last but not least PopcornKuma is one I really like, everything she does looks SO neat and I'm mad jelly.
I DO like Alias but I wish she'd be a bit more creative with her facial expressions. From what I can see a lot of her shoots are quite 'serious' in nature but she's so pretty when she cracks a smile

I've been friends with Miranda (Hildaglitz) since Homestuck days, and she's lovely, I'm glad she's getting the appreciation she deserves.

I already liked the admins, Kittiofdoom, Sparklypants, obviously Hildaglitz, Dizziedee, Moonlily, Dewnor, Helen Alice, Alias, PopcornKuma, Lolainprogress, AlienQueen, Captain Amelia, and Beyond Believing. Some were old friends from weeby days, but I do enjoy having the list, it's very helpful. I like seeing who you guys like, new people are good to know.

Moving to Southampton for uni next month. Does anyone here know much about Minamicon? From what I can see it is very, very small and basic.

It's chill. It has a variety of interactive and fun panels where you can play games, learn a bit about Japan and usually learn some cosplay and photography tips.

There's a maid cafe, games room supplied by DDR UK, the masquerade and the opening fair with more games and free food.

Things run on time and generally very smoothly. There's three hotels of varying price round a relatively inexpensive car park and several food, shopping and photography locations if you're willing to walk in a 10minute radius.

People tend to know each other, there's a regular crowd, but they're an easy enough to break into lot.

The past two years the Sunday night has finished with a mock kotatsu lounge with multiple tables and different games and things to do at each table to give people an excuse to be sociable and literally drink themselves under a table.

It's the UK's longest running anime convention and seems to be going strong.

No word on opening reg. at the moment but the dates are 4th-6th of March next year.

Teacup is actually the best cosplayer we have. I wish she got more recognition but I don't think she'd actually want it.

It's equal i would say. Even if your costume is amazing but the photographer isn't great, don't expect anything amazing back. At the same time it's also the same if your costume was rushed, badly fitted. The photographer can only capture whats there. If you know a good photographer it would be wise to keep them under your wing as they are few and far between.

There'll be a decrease in photographers wanting to shoot at mcm as it's just more work for them editing wise. Which then results in less people bringing their A game for mcm because what's the point. In May there were a bunch of European photographers at mcm and many have said they won't be returning because of the rules.

Plus Joe doesn't even know if mcm are going to police the selling of cosplay prints. Don't quite know how they would even do that as people can easily claim the photo was taken outside of mcm hours or at lscc.

The rules seem to have popped out suddenly and I'd love to see how they plan to enforce them seeing as mcm security rarely know what they're doing.

They had already banned lighting rigs - and I agree - they are too bulky etc.
It's the whole handheld flash/reflectors etc bit that ticks me off. It states in the rules that a photographer is not allowed to pass a flashgun to another individual for them to hold during a shoot I assume it also means they can't place it on the floor or behind the subject. Unless the photographer is holding their gear it is not allowed.

There was a poll done in one of the groups and it turned out most cosplayers don't care much for photos, but then they're are probably not the ones that are really proud of their costumes, just casuals.

The truth is why wouldn't someone want nice photos of their costume if they've worked so hard on them. Also it's a compliment if someone asks for a photo.

The issue is the fact there is no business there in the first place, so when they all pay their fee up front to mcm thinking to make a profit and it doesn't happen, their conclusion is to think "Oh it must be because of all them other photographers that are setup at the back taking my business".

Based off rumours heard and what I saw online:

People started questioning event on personal FB, safety, numbers, if harrods had really greenlit, if so why they were meeting at the tube station first. Etc

AL committee responded with about as much maturity as usual; none, arguing with said people on their status', demanding they delete them, leading into nasty messages from towers and that girl that can't sing, Kerry I think? There were screenshots but I like the people who shared them so I'm not going to drop their names here, it's typical weeab rant tbh. Then AL committee blocked people so the questioning moved onto the event page where AL committee kept making things worse for themselves with the attacking people rather than giving answers.

Then people started messaging Harrods on Twitter asking about the event, Harrods refuted the whole thing.

Attitude in the UK towards new cons seems to be generally poor, anyone who tries to start a con will probably end up vilified as someone on a get rich quick scheme, so that scares off most potential creators.

conventions aren't cheap to run, venues are becoming increasingly expensive, that pushes up ticket prices, if a con is too quiet it's a flop, if it's too busy it's a mess, reputation is everything to dealers and companies, which arguably make the con.

In short, there are people, but starting a convention is risky.

Yeah this was the point I stopped doubting her. IIRC she made some cryptic remark about delaying revealing her long-hyped Quiet costume. Lucas had previously said he was shooting it. Then like two months later she finally posts the photos and she credits Seb. KJ had a bunch of photos up on SCG before and shot with all those guys and hung with Lucas a whole bunch, so why would she go to the effort of re-shooting a costume like that which obviously fits in with SCG and Lucas? And why so suddenly? Anybody who has paid attention knows how KJ and Seb are, she's too lazy and stubborn and he's too proud and stubborn, so it's not like they would have re-shot for anything less than a real serious reason.

So like. KJ's a huge bitch. And a huge skank. And most of the time I wouldn't believe anything she says. But when it comes to Lucas, her story makes way more sense than his.
