Now that I've been trying to track down merch for my bag, I understand it a little better. It's one thing to have buttons that everyone can get but if you have 20 of a certain button that get snatched up quickly at 3k yen a piece then you look like you're really dedicated. I've been trying to stalk YJA for this one certain button of my husbando and it hardly pops up but when it does it goes fast and for a high price at the last second. Bought a $13 clear bag and made a makeshift inner bag with some fabric I had lying around. I plan on going out and buying a sturdier fabric later on.

I didn't really have any estimate. I've been a buyfag for a while and I love collecting things of my favorite characters. When I found out about itabags I had already preordered a couple things for my swordbando so I just ended up making it a goal to get as much of his merch as I could.

The bag itself is a cheap, sturdy canvas bag from a craft store but I'm hand embroidering it with my husubando and his company logo so it will look a little better. The clear bag was also super cheap like $12, so I could spend more on merchandise itself. The rest of the $350 is all on straps and buttons I'm commission from artists which is always a hassle.

Yup, my top husbandos (usually I just pair clear with Aoba or Ren and Aoba) but the lack of merch is real. Most are just store exclusive, fan made, or official merch such as plushies, scented beads, or OSTs/Drama CDs but there's only been a few charms and straps here and there. I might just use CGs and official art to make up the lack of buttons and stuff.

The crossdresser brother (forgot his name) fell in love with her in the Christmas OVA and the flower brother in the Valentines one. I don't think it's dead yet. The movie literally just came out in Japan and seems to be doing well over there. There's a fun little yowapedal app game that came out a few weeks ago and the manga is still going. We'll hopefully hear about a season 3 in the works next year once the movie hype dies down and the manga goes a little further. Just avoid the tumblr part of the fandom and you'll be alright. Trip is on because I want to talk about pedals and post my bag again.

So I really like Hakone, they're my favorite team. I debated for a while before I bought the materials to make my bag whether it should be an Izumida bag or an Arakita bag. I don't ship them together but I think they both go great with Shinkai so I ended up buying Shinkai pins. Then at some point I was just like "Fuck it, going full Hakone because I love all of them."
The Fukutomi on the end there came as a surprise because I didn't order him (all of the charms and pins are taobao bootleg) he came packaged with one of the Arakitas. I guess whoever was packing my stuff in China ships Fuku/Arakita.
A couple of things have been added to my bag since this picture was taken. I bought a non-bootleg pin that matches the others of Toudou at a con and I added some Andy & Frank pins because I love bara tiddies.

For one, look at the price point. These straps originally sold for 450 yen and were exclusive, so there's no way that they'd be sold for cheaper. Also everything is from taobao, and you're pretty much not going to find any real merch on taobao.

You can commission artists generally and you can handmake some as long as, in my opinion, its something that looks a little more impressive than making pins out of official art. It really depends on you I'm going for a mostly comissioned bag with just a few handmade thing (patches,rosettes, cosplay bear) to bring it some variety.

Just got most of this in the mail today and quickly put it on, so it's pretty messy. With stuff on the right that I'm waiting on.
Also going to Japan in a week, so I was going to look for more merch while I was there. Although, the bag ended up a bit smaller than I expected so I'm not sure how much more I can fit.

Lurking through this thread has also inspired me to actually make an itabag!
The only thing is that there's little to no merchandise for Pearl, so everything I have so far are from fan artists I've bought from at conventions. I also have a 50 pin order of multiple screencaps I took of her while watching the show, a 25 pin order of my favorite screencap of her in the sweater during New Years to be placed as a 5x5 grid, and might be placing another order for my friends' arts!
There's also this 12 inch Amigurumi Pearl on Etsy that I have my eye on, but she looks a little creepy and slightly off-putting, but I really.. really want it...

I don't know how I feel about putting the Pearl trim up top since I might be putting pins right underneath and the charms might just all blend together, but I really like how it looks there and I really like it being functional too. I'm not sure what to do, so advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah! I realized I had fabric that could work for it, so I just kind of made it on a whim. It's my first time making a tote bag, but I think it could have turned out a lot worse. The outer fabric isn't very sturdy so I lined it with some thick black velvet. I also have to reinforce the straps since it's already getting heavy with what's on it right now. Oh and I added the bows to cover up the seams from the straps, but the fact that it added a splash of pink was a plus! I'm planning on getting some clear pvc/vinyl to make the outer bag since I didn't base the dimensions of my bag on anything.

- Has anyone who worn these at cons had issues with people pulling things off or stealing things from your bag? I've had many key chains nabbed off my backpack even at uni.

Oh it is just a super light blue that my shitty cellphone camper didn't pick up, its a holoscreen with Vasquez face looking grumpy.
