i think that ouji is at the same place now that lolita was ten years ago. the lack of communication about boystyle from Japanese fashionistas, combined with the lack of a variety of items easily available for purchase and interchangeable within a cohesive style, breeds a lot of itas. only a few very good boystylers manage to stand out while most are either mediocre or look terrible. there is a lot of willingness to wear the fashion, but little knowhow, and absolutely no mentoring or lifestyle aspect to help noobs along.

even in Japan, ouji is not as defined as lolita has been.

Things like faded colours, runny prints, bad lace (not just raschel b/c brands use good raschel sometimes, I mean lace that's so bad it looks like it might melt in direct sunlight) and dodgy craftsmanship. If you have a princess seamed dress and it's decidedly off-centre, it's a fake. Also prints get cut off in strange places and things like stripes aren't matched at all. Biggest giveaway IMO is size- any hamplanet wearing a brand print is wearing a replica.

Looking for advice on how to handle a certain ita I reblogged to the blog. She posted a selfie with no petti, her tits hanging out ect, and I reblogged (cause I'm not even sure the dress she was wearing was even a Lolita dress) she then sent me a bunch of asks and I explained to her we weren't attacking her but it's not Lolita, she then claimed she was freaking out and threatened to kill herself, and while I'm usually a bit of an asshole I felt kind of bad and deleted it because she just would not leave me alone about it.
