I think kirin cosplays are great with a normal wig if modeled right. Like, you dont need to go slay the nearest horse and make a kirin armor out of it, if you just get the biggest details right and make the wig look actually good and put effort to it. Oh my gosh, I remember that cosplayer! She's from my area. She took that to literally every local convention for a whole year and competed. She won at least 3 times. It was pretty disappointing.

I'm a video game character concept artist (worked for multiple corporations) I think one of the things which come to my mind once I finish the final product is 'Can this actually be worn in real life without malfunctions.'
I know it's a huge struggle for cosplayers when they like the character but the artist never considers if the characters outfit is actually viable. But I just wanted to say that a lot of us try our best to come up with very unique designs whilst trying to take into account it's viability and comfort for cosplayers.
