Can people even successfully thrift for fairy kei? Every time I see a "thrifted" outfit for fairy kei, it doesn't look anything remotely jfashion.

>> No.8551847

>>8551631
For main pieces, I say no. Thrifting in Japan is totally different than thrifting in another country. Most do it in shops catered towards street fashion whilst in other countries you're more likely to find a droopy cardigan from Aunt Mabel. Not to say that you cannot find a bargain, but I hate it when newbies are consistently told to thrift and all they end up with is pastel granny clothes.

I've seen sweaters or cardigans in the UK thrifted successfully, but things like cute socks, dresses or skirts are hard to find. Someone suggested a malco mode petticoat for fairy kei, but I doubt it would look even close to an actual outfit.

>> No.8552693

>What got you into fairy-kei?
my friend linked me to shop-cute and i was drawn to the fairy kei section. i didn't have a very good idea of what it was at first (i was picking up on more bobon21 style stuff) but thankfully i researched more before ordering my first items.

>Do you prefer thrifting or buying clothes made for the fashion, or both?
i massively prefer how clothing made for the style looks. like >>8551847 said, thrifting is different in different countries. here in the uk primark is a fairy kei haven when the season is right and i've seen people pull off all high street-wear coords but i generally only get casual filler pieces from there (plain pastel sneakers to deco, the odd shirt, etc). i try and do a massive taobao haul with ott-fairy stuff once every six months and then stick to fairy kei sales.

>What is your favorite trend in fairy-kei? What's your least favorite?
i love how pumpkin pants and otks look together, and i really like the look of customised items, like skirts with badges on. i'm also a fan of sorta edgy fairy kei. call me a weeb but i love how chokers and studded pink platforms look with fluffy skirts and cute printed shirts.
i was the anon bitching about this in the last thread but i despise super short shorts in this fashion. mid thigh length? fine. above knee length? fine. pumpkin pants? fine. i love wearing shorts in pastel colours and i think they look adorable if done right but i literally cannot stand really short shorts, it just doesn't carry the aesthetic.

>What are some good fairy-kei YouTube channels or blogs?
i have yet to come across a solely fairy kei youtube channel (i have my own but i'm not posting that for obvious reasons) but i really adore lovely lor's videos. she mostly wears lolita but she has done fairy kei/decora and j-fash inspired outfits and she's generally just fun to watch. i like some of mahouprince's fk coords but their decora isn't my thing. phoenix-okazaki also has cute fk coords that i take inspo from.

I love me some Primark. I often wonder if they follow Jfashion on some level as depending on the season they seem to cater to mori girl, pastel goth, items that would work with otome and have had so much pastel/fairy kei-able items.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think any shade of brown hair can work very well with fairy kei. Blonde lightens up the whole outfit, black provides a cute contrast, pastel colors speak for themselves, but I've never loved seeing brown wigs used no matter how cute the style is.

None of the other collab items look nice to me, which is a bummer. The fabric on this is really nice and soft and the print is BRIGHT as fuck, which is perfect.

What's your favorite legwear for fairy kei?

>> No.8567326

I dabble in fairy kei and pastel goth influenced fashions because when I was a kid in the 90s I wore almost exclusively pastels after my hardcore tomboy phase. Then I had a casual sportwear phase but kept everything pastel and still have the shoes, visors, caps and baggy sweaters etc. After my emo phase drifted into victorigoth and lolita, discovering sweet lolita brought me back to the beginning of loving pastels whilst the pieces have huge crossover potential. All my fairy kei stuff is thrifted or offbrand but my style is a blend of influences so I can't call it fairy kei 'proper'

> What would you like to change in fairy kei (community, active members, internet presence, style, etc.)?
pls remove tumblr influence. if i could i'd ban anyone posting utter shit in the fairy kei tags from ever posting. like no. it's not fairy kei. don't shit up the tag.

i guess, while i like the small community, i'd add more people. i want it to be something big like lolita where there's a bloodbath with every new milklim release and people have fairy kei comms and meets.

> If there was ever a fairy kei brand that made it big in the west and more "normies" began to know it in a weird way like lolitas and living dolls, how would you deal/react?
it depends what they saw us as. i'd be cool with stuff like "80's throwback girls" (hell, even "fairy girls" would be fine). but if it was something weird or negative the responses would be different. there's not much to say about it other than "fluffy pastels". maybe if people started calling it ageplay or some weird child kink i'd be offended.

> What are your favorite brands to buy from? Have you ever made accessories/clothing/etc yourself?
i love love love milklim. i want all the milklim burando. occasionally i make accessories but i can't sew for shit so i wouldn't attempt making anything from scratch, but i have customised things.

> What separates fairy kei brands from normie brands other than print?
the colours and styles are important. a lot of normie brands use dusty pastels rather than vibrant ones, and most shirts, for example, are more fitted than oversized. i've never seen some of the cuts that some fk wear has in normie clothes either.

> Selfpost challenge optional: Make the most tumblr version of fairy kei out of your closet
pic related. not me, maybe i'll put something together later, but this is the most "tumblr" fk pic i could find, and by tumblr i mean "threw on a pastel something and jeans, fuck it". this isn't even casual fairy.

I know that mahou kei is a fairy kei substyle. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not there would be a demand for like, magic wands? I've been making toy wands lately. I'm still trying to hone my process but they're about a foot and a half long and about an inch thick.

I'm trying to achieve a certain school/preppy inspired look for Fairy Kei. Pic-related is what I'm aiming for. I could take up crocheting and make lots of cute sailor collars. Would varsity jackets work as well? Also is there a way to get magical girl inspired accessories? (excl. Starlight Deco Dreams). Thanks in advance. If this turns well, I can really get stuck in the fairy kei community again.

Thank you, I am very much done with pastel tee shirts over leggings and not-quite-decora being slapped with fairy kei.

Also that tumblr picture. Ugh. Why those pants of all things?

> What would you like to change in fairy kei (community, active members, internet presence, style, etc.)?
More of a presence for sure. Fairy kei threads are always dying quickly on here, and it doesn't get much good activity on western websites either (it's all decora fairy or bad "hipster pastel").
> If there was ever a fairy kei brand that made it big in the west and more "normies" began to know it in a weird way like lolitas and living dolls, how would you deal/react?
I probably wouldn't care. So long as there's a surge in fairy kei fans and I can get brand (milklim would be my pick) nearby, I'm fine.
> What are your favorite brands to buy from? Have you ever made accessories/clothing/etc yourself?
I've made bows and wristcuffs myself, and stuck cabochons on ring bases. Milklim is my favorite brand, but I love 6% Doki rings.
> What separates fairy kei brands from normie brands other than print?
The shape and texture. Fairy kei brands just have that flowy feeling that normie brands just can't reach.

Honestly, the quality of mall clothes is pretty shit. Sure, it's very likely ita coming from china/Thailand or where ever, but it's not worth the price. Plus their stuff moves really fast as most normalfags wear it. It's just not a fantastic place to shop.

They wouldn't work for fairy kei. If you can't find patterned pastel tights, normal tights and layered socks still create a very fairy look.

Not at all, in fact I feel like I act and think way too childish for my age. And then there's no one believing me when I say I'm 30. Sometimes I think my parents lied to me about my age, haha.
When I think about my age though, I do feel old.
