My favorite oldschool feature is hard to describe. It's more like the vibe of the whole thing. Lolitas then didn't just wear plastic and tulle. They looked like actual dolls.

I like most oldschool coords. The black shoes with light colored outfits always bothered me, though. That was from a lack of available matching shoes, though, I suspect, and might not have been desired.

Dream old school piece? Pic related. I love red with white, and this is about as old school as it gets without being too campy. Also, most old velvet pieces by Cornet and AP.

I feel like the only one who doesn't hate an outfit being paired with black shoes, I agree it was probably from a lack of availability of other colors but I think black shoes look fine with any outfit that isn't shiro.

I kinda miss the days before colored shoes were an option, though I do think that colored shoes can be cute too. Simple black or white shoes with an outfit will always be my preference though.

A lot of old school pieces don't have listed measurements on lolibrary or hello lace, I was wondering what the average measurements for non shirred and partial shirred pieces would be?

I know non shirred skirts are normally around 64cm Waist but I can't find much information about jsks.

I think the max bust most of the time would be around 88cm. I once had a non laced oldschool btssb jsk, and it was at least 10cm too big on me (I've a 76cm bust), so I think that would be a decent guess.

>> No.8530682

>>8530321
My reaaaally old pieces tend to be like 86-88 bust mid 70s waist. I thought 86 would be small but it's fine? Perhaps I measured myself wrong)
I'm a s-m (size 4 USA?) And they fit me perfectly. For reference I actually have a large chest but a small ribcage so take that.into consideration (i know some girls complained about them sitting awkwardly on larger frames). As a tall girl the ones (ops) I own actually have a better length than modern dresses too. I find OPs more forgiving than jsks. Skirts are a no-go for me generally. Shirred is ok but not as comfy, I like high cut dresses or some room in the waist. Tight waist stuff feels awkward. Arms are pretty small on them if that's an issue for you.

Lots of oldschool VM and JetJ tend to have a waist of around 60-64cm and bust no bigger than 86-88cm. Older MM tends to have a waist of ~65cm and bust ~86cm. Innocent World's sizing has pretty much stayed the same over the years from my experience.

I agree with this so much and its the reason I can't get into OTT or modern Lolita. For me Lolita was suppose to be a fashion that I could actually wear regularly that would look like I popped out of an old story book or a time machine without being hard to wear or looking or feeling too much like a costume.

Out of curiosity, how many people who are interested in old school also interested in the old lifestyle stuff? It seems like it used to be a bigger thing than it is now, so I would guess a lot of people who are interested on one are also interested in the other to at least some degree.

I cant post links, it thinks I'm spam, but if you go to princessportal on the wayback and go to an older date where the "writings" option is, go there and go to the newest date available and you should be able to see any of her writings. She has a few on lifestyle and related topics.

To keep it relevant to old-school, besides the fact the lifestyle thing is pretty old-school of course, I love all the cotton crochet lace that got used in older pieces. The tulle and net lace with the little pictures and things woven in that they use now is cute, but nothing looks more maiden and luxurious like than soft, thick cotton lace.

Not the anon you're replying to, but I've also started using my own hair with Lolita, and it feels so much better. I used to wear wigs almost all the time with Lolita, about three times a week or more, and I ended up hating my own hair because I'd deluded myself with the "perfect" look of the wigs I was wearing and began nitpicking my own hair.
I'm growing mine out too at the minute as I cut it about shoulder-length after Christmas, but I feel so much better since I stopped wearing them so often, both physically (wigs can hurt something wicked), and mentally.

It has a nice shape but the pleated parts of the skirt are quite unusual in lolita fashion (although not unheard of) and tend to be seen on more on classic pieces.

Other than the ruffle, what changes were you thinking of making? Did you want to use black or white lace? What material is your jsk?

I think something like pic related would look good if the material's not cotton, slightly sheer ruffles etc. I recommend looking at some simple moi meme moitie pieces for inspiration, I think the style in general would lend itself to a jsk like yours.

It would have to be very, very good, considering that a lot of brand still (at least partially) cater to old-school looks.
Price and quality would be factors, but so would original designs. If you'd be making things that are ~heavily inspired~ by oldschool brand pieces, I'd rather stick with what I know is quality.

Do you have anything in the way of a sample piece, like a headdress or even something small like that? I know I've probably sounded negative until now, but if it's good, and not starting out at brand+ prices, I'd give it a look.

>> No.8537465

>>8537415
There isnt enough interest to really make a brand out of it. Oldschool stuff is generally cheap to get because it isnt that popular, so the pricing would be competitive to that which is not good for you. It will be hard to charge those low prices and match the quality. Then without a general interest beyond that niche substyle you would barely be able to make any money.

Not sure what the best thread to ask this in is so I thought is try asking here first.

I wear simple Lolita outfits and a lot of them have an old-school edge to them. I have IBS and petticoats are hard for me to wear a lot of times. I was wondering if anyone knew if there were some bloomers out there that would provide just enough poof to keep from looking flat, that way I could skip the petticoat altogether. All the bloomers I own right now I hand made, but I have very limited sewing skills and they are very sloppy and I don't know if I could make some sort of poofy bloomers on my own.

Sorry if this didn't come out right or sounds like it's worded strange, I'm tired and it's close to my bedtime.

Oops, forgot to mention I am going for causal level poof, obviously I know a pair of bloomers isn't going to get my skirts filled out, but I was just wondering if there were any bloomers out there with enough poof to work for casual and older styled outfits where you don't need much poof.

keep away from cheap stuff, keep things basic and don't go for any crazy meta designs (that's hard mode old school). choose a 2 color outfit, with basic items. and use a decent petticoat. buy something that fits you and suits your body type. try to find a cheap secondhand brand mainpiece and if you want, you can add bodyline items and other brands to it. an example: offwhite blouse (would recommend bodyline L076 / P295), Baby or AP JSK in sax/offwhite or pink/offwhite or black/offwhite, offwhite UTK or OTK, rectangle headdress or headbow in same color combo of the JSK, offwhite clunny lace wristcuffs (when short sleeve blouse) and offwhite shoes for pastel base colors or black shoes for black base

Beautiful jsk anon, I honestly love it.

Since it's quite low cut and won't be directly near your face, you may find that there's enough space between your blouse and the jsk to make it work. You may also find that tailoring your make-up can help colors that aren't necessarily the most flattering work a bit better for you.

If you can find a blouse in that cornflower blue shade that would probably look really good if the other options still aren't working. Your best bet would probably be vintage clothing outlets if say taobao etc doesn’t turn up anything.

So here is my first old school haul I mentioned earlier in this thread. The one on the far right being my first, I absolutely love it, I have never loved anything lolita related as much as this. It comes with sleeves and a peter pan collar like the op in the center but black.

The far left, it looks like karami but with different straps in the shoulder style. A very dark navy blue with all blue lace trimming which I was really pleased to discover it wasn't black.

The center op appears to be part of a maid set and I'm not really quite sure what to do with it just yet, but I'm so excited that I got two pieces from the same season! It shares the exact same lace as the piece on the right.

Amazing haul, seriously. I'm so jelly of the central OP too, it's like my ultimate oldschool dress - relatively understated but still distinctly lolita and a bit of Wednesday Addams thown in too. So perfect. Damn.

The central op is insanely long! I'm 5'6" and it comes just up above my ankles, I was seriously shocked, I was expecting something maybe more mid shin.

I know how you feel about the jsk, I was having a little trouble myself. I'm not exactly a purist though when it comes to old school looks as I'd like to wear it casually. I've tried it one way so far and it involves wearing a long black cardigan to calm the frill down a bit, a long sleeved sheer black blouse with an attached ascot, black patent oxfords, dark blue tights, and a gold necklace with charm, and no petti as this is something I'd want to wear to work hypothetically speaking. Sub-tropical climate breh
Though it does get cold enough sometimes, I just missed it. Honestly debating whether to keep it now. There's going to be a cold spell next week so I'll try it out then. I'll probably still get rid of some other stuff though so it's not all in vain. I'm just happy people liked the pictures.

Kek, wish i could be like that.I need to work and save for burando, engage in other "lolitable" hobbies, i'm not married nor in any relationship and no chance to have free cash from a partner. It's a bit egoistical for me depending on money to someone for buying burando.

So I just got this in the mail today and I love the skirt, but I never had any real intention on wearing the rest of the set as I'm older and it just doesn't suit my looks, would anyone here be interested in it? I'd rather sell them together, but am willing to break them up. It looks like they're both crazy rare, but I know it'd just sit in my closet otherwise.

Did one of you gulls grab this? it went for the 1,920 yen starting bid. Someone got themselves one hell of a bargain.
