From what I remember, the choker theft accusations were the end of that, though. After that, there was nothing she could do right. I never heard her run down anyone in the community. Her post about "ogres" was a guide for how to deal with bullies in general for younger/newer lolitas. She used the term ogre instead of bully because it fit the fairy tale aesthetic she used for her writing.

A lot of people said she was crazy or delusional, but I understood what she was going for. It was over the top for the fun of being over the top and rose-tinted. I'm not trying to say she was perfect, I know nobody is and I'm sure she made mistakes and said things she shouldn't have at some point because we all do.

People don't like lifestyle lolitas because they misunderstand the concept of lifestyle, and new, young lolitas (aka "lolitas at heart" mostly) give it a bad rep. I got into the fashion because of the lifestyle honestly, and I am more interested in that than the clothes. I want to preface this by saying anything I say is not meant to be aggressive at all. Just want to make it clear I am not arguing or trying to derail the thread.

I feel like if people understood what she was doing, they wouldn't have thought she was delusional. I guess I have the same sort of interest and I have a really soft personality, so maybe I can relate more to it. I can see why people could think she had problems though. I also understand how people thought she was fake, and I know a lot of people do not like overly sweet personalities, and I can see how it would bother them. Personally I think she was being genuine in the sense that it was what she really enjoyed doing and I think she probably truly has a gentle personality. I know she had an interest in writing and stories so I think it was probably a way for her to combine two of her hobbies together.

Maybe I shouldn't admit this, but I guess for me I could relate to her and it was kind of nice to have someone I felt like I had something in common with at the time. I'm overly soft and sensitive and I try to be polite and kind because it's just the kind of person I am, plus I'm introverted and a little shy on top of it. A lot of people IRL think I'm stuck up and mean because of it, which I don't really understand but apparently it's the connection people make. I've had a hard time making friends because of it, it seems to put people off. I'm always scared that people don't like me because of my personality. I'd like to think people wouldn't hate me for being myself, but I know you can't please everyone and that not everyone is going to like you, so I try not to let it bother me too much.

If Skye were around now, she probably wouldn't get anywhere near the shit thrown at her that she used to. Tbh I think the crazy negative reactions Skye got were because as a new subculture, most lolitas at the time didn't want to seem batshit delusional and like they couldn't separate reality and fantasy, so the community would come down very, very hard on anyone who didn't seem like they realized lolita is literally just clothing.

Yes I like talking about things like this. I've been so disenchanted and disconnected from with Lolita these days. It lets me feel like it's still '09-'10. I don't argue so I wanted to make sure everyone was aware I wasn't trying to sound like it so people didn't get upset or start arguing back.

I been involved with lolita around 7 or possibly 8 years, so I didn't experience much of the drama involving her (or any other drama involving individuals because I wasn't in any communities). I was aware of drama happening though, but there was never much concrete evidence or remains of it. I think you're right about why people had the reactions to her that they did, and knowing how people are I can see that even if they understood what she was doing, they might still have a problem with it to protect their own image. Especially if other people were very against it too.

I wasn't ever really involved but I do remember that EGL used to be different than it is now. There was recently someone who seemed to have a cross dressing fetish, and not just an interest in cross dressing, who posted to EGL asking for help and I was shocked that not a single person mentioned that Lolita isn't fetish wear and he got nothing but helpful replies. I can't imagine that happening even 4 years ago.

I define lifestyler as trying to make as many things as you can fit the aesthetic that you're going for, or doing things that make you feel more connected to the fashion. It's something that's different for everyone, but there's a common theme of old fashioned quaintness and femininity and most people try to add touches to match it to their décor and their out-of-Lolita style. Often, what influences a person to wear lolita influences their lifestyle also. There's also a focus on self refinement and appreciating simple things. A lot of people think lifestyle is being fake, but it's not about forcing yourself to be who you aren't, but rather letting your more quaint or beautiful interests shine through. It isn't about limiting yourself to what you can do either, which is another misconception. There's a lot of interests and hobbies people might not even associate with Lolita that would still tie in with the lifestyle ideal perfectly, it's such a broad idea. If I had to describe it in one phrase, I would say it's about "living artfully and beautifully." I could go on about this forever but I don't think everyone else would appreciate it very much.

Specifically for me, I was interested in stories about fantasy or that take place in the past and fairy tales, drinking tea, cute things, crafting, old fashioned stuff and historical stuff, ect. before Lolita. I also like the idea of making myself a kinder and more educated person. The clothes match my personality and interests like a glove.

For other people, they might get into the fashion and then explore Lolita-related hobbies and interests or aesthetics and find that there's some out there they like that it sticks with them.

I wish there would be a revival of the lifestyle ideal. It's how I found the fashion so it's sentimental to me. Plus I think it's really fun.

I think that maybe, in the current Lolita community, there isn't a big place for lifestyle concept anymore. There's more lolitas and they are more connected and most attend a local community and meet ups, and things have become fast and impersonal (like Facebook). Things have changed, but I think that people are missing out on a really fun concept. But I know not everyone is interested in something like that either.

For me, I've always been a lone Lolita and don't have an interest in joining a community or doing meet ups, and I don't even have a Facebook page. Maybe that's why the lifestyle ideal still is interesting for me after all these years. Or maybe it's just my personal interests and personality, because like I said I have always been interested in that kind of stuff.

I'm flattered honestly! I'm glad I did such a good job explaining it. I've been thinking about making a lolita lifestyle type of blog (not a Lolita blog though, if that makes sense) for years and years, but I've never felt comfortable with doing it. I'm also influenced by videogames too.

I deeply miss the sentimental feeling the fashion used to have. I've really been so uninterested in the fashion lately, thought about quitting even, and I'm almost positive that it's because of the death of lifestyle and how much the style itself has changed since I discovered it. I actually came on here because of it, I'm not a regular to CGL and I'm not a fan of it, but I was hoping to find some inspiration to help push me forward.
