I honestly don't understand why people hate Bodyline.
I've been avoiding it since I got into lolita because I've heard nothing but bad things about it.
But I just bought a secondhand bodyline dress, and the quality of the fabric is nice.
The whole thing is nice, it's a very nice dress.
Can someone please explain why everyone hates Bodyline clothes?

They don't.

I don't think people hate BL so much for being BL rather than the people who wear it and act as if it's the greatest thing ever and that it's just as good as brand or some other bullshit.
The quality used to also be horrible, but it's gotten better and it's now decent. Except...not decent enough for the prices Yan has been charging lately.

>> No.8519698

Newer people tend to wear Bodyline, thus Bodyline coords tend to look off. Plus it attracts annoying cheap lolitas who become defensive or obnoxious about other girls wearing brand. If you coord a BL piece well you'll get more respect than slapping together an ill fitting or ita brand coordinate.

I don't really care for their prints. Their non-print stuff is great, though.

Eh, some Bodyline pieces can be nice. I've had a few I've been pleasantly surprised by. I think mainly people just hate the newfags who can't coord for shit that wear Bodyline. Plus the whole price jacking thing.

>> No.8519719

Only a few of BL's dresses are worth the cost to me, and the ones I've liked have all been solid colors. I've owned five print dresses by BL and all except like one have been really poor quality when compared to my brand dresses. I mean, they're fine for casual outings but they are in no way up to par with most big brand dresses.

Also, Mr. Yan keeps jacking up prices and BL has the worst customer service on the planet.

These are some reasons people hate BL.

I used to be very pro Bodyline until very recently. They jack up their prices and offer subpar stock for it.

>> No.8520250

They started as a sex shop, stole most of their designs (and still do), the owner is shady as fuck, etc

>> No.8520294

The idea that lolitas hate Bodyline is very inflated. We used to because years and years ago, they used to be pure shit. Bodyline used to be synonymous with full throttle ita. They vastly improved, though, and are very much accepted.

Elitists just like to mock Bodyline like Replicas because they cater to poorfags and fatty-chans. I think an anon even once said on here that Bodyline would finally achieve "brand status" if they only stopped catering to diverse sizes.

As much I'll be criticized for this and get called all crazy Illuminati, I really do think the brand worship and shitting on non-brands and replicas that make diverse sizes (Or heck even brands like Meta!) is really just all a subtle conspiracy to keep fatty-chans out of the fashion and make it a thin-only club.

Bodyline is ok but not a trustworthy shop. The quality varies wildly between the dresses, the one in your pic is quite soft and ok but I own a few skirts who are more stiff and hold a petticoat a bit strangely.

If you have a problem with the shipping or the quality they won't be of any help, I had a package returned to bodyline and they only offered a 40% refund which is ridiculous since they got the package back unopened, and in the end they totally flacked on me by not refunding anything.

I don't hate Bodyline, but I often state that Bodyline is much lower quality and less well-designed than brand. This isn't hate. It's simply fact.

Bodyline dresses are often made from a thick cotton that doesn't drape as nicely as other stuff, while other brands use stuff like fake silk, high end polyester, textured cotton, and so on. Have you felt Bodyline's tulle lace? Be careful of the one with the flowers, it's even scratchier than raschel lace. One of the Bodyline blouses looks great, but when worn it feels like wearing plastic paper.

I don't hate Bodyline, up until their recent price hike I bought filler blouses and shoes from them, the dresses and skirts are good for activities where you might get dirty and don't want to wear brand. It's great that it cuts so many corners so that the price can be cheaper.

But it's stupid to put it on the same level as brand when anyone who isn't blind and has a properly working sense of touch can tell you that Bodyline dresses and other brand dresses are on completely different levels.

Similarly, you can't really deny that Bodyline started out as a sex shop, was milanoo before milanoo, made replicas, and Mr Yan's kinda lolzy. I love it, personally, it's entertaining and I do feel I know more about this brand than some of the burandos trying to be all posh and standoffish. But again, equally stupid to deny this history since it's fact, not opinion.

btw anon, Bodyline's cheaper petticoats are useless, and the poofy ones are overpriced. I'd go with melikestea or malco modes for the petticoat, then rest of your outfit can be Bodyline. Personally I'd buy secondhand Bodyline for a little while. The prices will come down once they realise nobody's buying their stuff.

I'm wearing a bodyline piece to a meet in a couple of weeks and I love the coord I made with it, and also the weather will be hot and it's one of my few dresses that is actually airy.
I am just nervous about people thinking I'm a poorfag immediately.

The dress in black looks somewhat old school to me. If you're wearing the black one keep your hair clean, make sure your makeup is A+ and don't over accessorize and you should be okay!

Bodyline only gets hate, because it's babby's first dress most of the time. People would rather not be associated with itas.

As for me, I only like few of their basic colored dresses. Their prints are too sweet for my taste and the cuts are pretty basic as well. They all look the same.
If they started to make chiffon dresses or more classic prints like stained glasses I'd be interested again.

I don't think lolitas as a whole hate Bodyline at all, I think that some lolitas who can only afford Bodyline or budget brand are themselves so insecure about the fact they can only afford Bodyline that they make shit up about "brandwhores", "elitist hate" and "Bodyline Haters" to justify the inferiority complexes that they are casting upon themselves.

>Never met someone who hated Bodyline
>Never experienced a Brandwhore first hand ever.

>I buy almost solely brand
>I would even go as far as to describe myself a 'brandwhore'.
>I don't care what others choose to wear
>In fact I own a few BL dresses.

It's not a replica. That bodice would never be seen on an AP dress ever lol, but the scalloped lace look is AP-ish.

I think my problem is my first dress was brand (innocent world.) I found a lot of used brand for 100 or less. When I decided to finally try bodyline with the lucky pack of 2014, I hated every item. The lucky pack probably did not represent the best of bodyline, but there was a huge difference in quality. Now that I know about taobao, I just go there.

There's a person in my comm who wears this dress in yellow to nearly every damm meet.
I really want to tell her that yellow doesn't look good on her but she's too sweet and already very unconfident so I don't have the heart to do it.

And I seriously doubt the Bodyline one is a replica; the only resemblance is the blackxpink colorway. I actually prefer Bodyline's. It's simple and could be cute with some pink bows on the bodice to match the ones on the scallops.
