I've made out with my girlfriend plenty of times in cosplay, however I find that photos of it are always gross and unflattering unless you're in that "about to kiss" pose or it's taken from such a distance or angle that you don't have to see those nasty mouth smashes.

Maybe this is just where you are from, but in the UK even the biggest cons here are in shared public spaces. East London is still East London regardless of whether or not you're surrounded by 100,000+ freaks in costumes in a convention centre.

Besides, the whole thing is inherent. Men are not as close to one-another as women are; it's not so much a 'no homo' thing, it's the fact that there is a social pecking order among males which dictates that acting 'close' in any way is seen as shameful, weak or perverse.

I won't bore you with a deconstruction of male culture, but it's a constant power struggle - you might not get attacked right then and there if you're in a safe environment, but it's the smallest things that can 'demote' you down the pecking order to a position where you're at the bottom of the bullying pyramid. If it was possible to opt out of it, I'm sure many would but unfortunately it's just part of the unspoken rules of being male - it's not as straightforward as this idea of 'when you're a guy, everyone is your bro' that a lot of females like to believe.
