I guess I'll start with a sort of nooby question, how exactly do you wear a blouse with a skirt, what's considered correct? Do you tuck in the blouse or leave it out? If the blouse has a nicely finished end that wouldn't be too long or out of place, it it alright to leave it (neatly) untucked?

It depends on the blouse and skirt. if it looks fine untucked (like if the skirt doesn't have a big bow or something that's going to look weird with the blouse untucked) then leave it untucked if you wish. there are no rules for that. Do what you think looks best.

How much is DDC tiered worth now? I'm hoping to buy just the jsk but I wanted to know how much to budget for. I saw on auctions some people sell for like $500+ if they have the headbow or tights.

Auction came up on mbok for one of my grail items, its got 6 days left with no bids yet. Do I proxy up and bid the asking price now, or do I wait till the last day and bid then? I asked this in the last thread, but I figure I'll ask again since I'm sure people have additional ideas.

>What are some ideas for lolita panels besides the typical Lolita 101?

in the last thread I got

>Lolita then (early 90s) and now
>Lolita fashion on a budget
>hair/wig styling for lolita

For my own purposes, I'm trying to brainstorm ideas for panels that are more likely to bring in newbs, onlookers/casual followers of the fashion, etc. from the 101 panel as my comm isn't that big compared to other comms in the US and though from what I gather from cgl, even though there are some lone lolitas I don't think a large enough amount of them attend my home convention where I would get a lot of turnout for certain panel topics, though I think all 3 of the ideas someone posted would bring in people just fine (especially the lolita fashion on a budget one). Either way I just really want there to be another panel beyond the 101 panel.

PSA that should be obvious but apparently is not:

When you're a hosting a meet, if you're going to change the date, PLEASE mention that on the event page and be open to discussion about it, especially if you are changing the date near the time of the event.
If you've had the date for a meet-up set for a few weeks already, you cannot just randomly decide to change the date and not tell anyone, especially because once a few weeks have gone by people have likely already asked for time off and set aside plans for that specific day.

I know the host is ultimately the one who decides when their meet is going to take place, and I know that you shouldn't just keep changing dates willy-nilly because 1 person says they can't go, but that's not what I'm talking about here. If a bunch of people agree on one date, and then you have that date marked down on the event page for a few weeks, IMO it's kind of really discourteous to just randomly change the date/time and not say anything about it at all, or discuss it and let everyone know that you were thinking about or were needing to change the date because something else has come up for you as host.

Gulls, please remember to wash your damn clothes.

I bought a blouse on here from a BST thread. Tried it on briefly, it didn't fit. Today I was inspecting it because I plan on selling it, and noticed some yellow sweat? makeup? stains around the neck/back of the collar. Threw it in the washer and it came right out. It's not even a brand blouse is the seller had no excuse to be ~afraid of damaging it by not washing it properly either.

This isn't the first time I've received something clearly not washed either - it seems to me that half of secondhand sales are people trying to get rid of stuff to clear closets or get cash (or both), and the other half is full of morons who are too lazy to clean their clothes or sit down and figure out how.

The only print of theirs that has appealed to me in the last two years is the bears on broomsticks one, the new release dresses I like from them are either re-runs of plain pieces they've always done (which I'm thankful for, don't get me wrong).

I think if a stye sold out quickly, they'll try to revisit it. This year's Swan Lake looked a lot like Ragnarok. Rose Prisoner and Scheherazade looks like classic AatP. Though I don't really know if they can produce another Elizabeth or Gloria.

Elizabeth wasn't even a bloodbath from what I remember, I waffled deciding on the colours and was still able to check out without the site crashing. My guess is Baby doesn't really know how popular some of their prints are, they don't seem to track secondhand prices after the items are sold and out of their warehouses. OTT is quickly going to become the only style we see posted--not because people will stop wearing simple coords but because it's what is generally worn to meetups, cons, and photoshoots, which are the places we generally see photos posted from. And who wants to be the person who posts a generic JSK+blouse+socks+headgear coordinate on COF or wherever, when everyone else is more dressed up than a bride on her wedding day? It won't mean the "death" of simple or casual, but it will mean that we'll see less and less non-OTT coordinates posted.

I also see a lot of opulence and elegance, I can imagine that we'll be seeing a lot more focus on more elegant things like OTT bonnets and Victorian Maiden style floral hair clips. I also think maybe feathers and more 18th century influence will come into play.

I also see a lot more of an otome feeling coming into the style, as I feel like a lot of Lolitas are drawn to the otome style for its way of doing elegant and even opulent without needing a giant Rococo ballgown-inspired dress. Jane Marple has been gaining in popularity I've noticed in the Western comms.

Angelic Pretty is going to focus on doing a less strictly Lolita look and more of an inspired look--their most popular and best selling pieces recently have all been things like Dream Marine, Dolly Cat, and Milky Cross, which are stand-outs from the typical Lolita palette and design. Their brand look will continue to draw influence from the latest trends but they will work the trends into an Angelic Pretty 'look': IE all the almost Larme-feeling, almost neo-gyaru stylings of their latest ad spreads in Spoon magazine, which are not the usual Lolita looks. Eventually we'll reach a point where AP is the furthest from conventional Lolita of all the brands, while BTSSB does more OTT pieces and the classic brands just keep doing what they're doing.

Those thread topics are too broad and usually devolve into people whining about being overweight, exchanging bad diet advice, and trolling. you know, this whole OTT trend actually reminds me a lot of classic Baby (just look at Elizabeth for example...)

>> No.8488659

>>8488329

Baby used to do S, M and L sizes specifically because western lolitas requested bigger dresses. They pulled that after just a year, because nobody bought the L sizes (the L size dresses being mostly fug).

When pointed out that their older prints were being scalped, they did a re-release, but it's old series that didn't sell well (Alice Chess, Wiz me over the Rainbow). Then they did an anketto to find out what customers actually want re-released, but they ran aatp prints and btssb print on the same card. Midsummer Night's Dream won, and the re-release was so fierce Baby did a second round, and further added stock when the things went up (got an extra hairclip and otks that way). However, the btssb print lagged behind MND in terms of sales.

They're responsive, they want to sell as many dresses directly to you as they can instead of AP's stubbornly limited supply causing price inflation. But every time they tried to cater to Western lolitas' demands they've made mistakes and probably taken huge losses. So you can see how they might feel a little burned.

You can see the effort Baby goes into meeting demand if you watch their news pages -- Juno's bouquet and the deer print got a second round of reservations. Unlike AP, there's no need for emails begging for an MTO. Stuff at Baby just needs to sell out fast enough, Baby will do a second round of reservations, and I've even seen some dresses that sold out in two rounds go up with extra stock.

>>8488380

Like I said earlier, I don't think they realise which ones of their prints are stupidly popular and which ones aren't. If you want to do something, round up some auctions and send Baby an email pointing out how high the bidding goes and how many girls want it badly. Point out that this print now costs more than MND. They'll definitely listen and consider it, though I don't know if they'll think the demand is enough for them to do a re-release.

Baby really was part of what started the movement towards the really OTT with their expensive MTO pieces like the Robe Pour Midori. Some people would argue Juliette et Justine is the reason but if you actually look at most OTT photos, the style is closer to the BTSSB look than it is to JetJ. JetJ may be featured more prominently what with their hard to ignore prints, but sheer socks, flowy chiffon blouses, floral overload, veils, and elegant heeled Mary Jane shoes are all mostly borrowed from Baby's concept of OTT. JetJ does have some similar leanings but their "opulence" tends to come from rich prints and materials (lots of darker tones and rich fabrics like velvet or satins, not a lot of lace but very structured pieces), while Baby usually keeps the silhouette very airy and light (lots of chiffon and light cotton, muted jewel tones or dusty pastels mostly with some richer accents).

It's not strictly that it deviates too much but that it's fairly different in terms of color scheme and dress cuts (it's not very 'traditionally' Lolita) while still staying in line with the AP aesthetic (print idea is much like CTP, cuts reminiscent of Cinema Doll and all the 3/4 or 1/2 sleeve OPs AP has been putting out this year). The colors are a little more saturated and it reminds me much of Fantastic Dolly, which in and of itself was a fairly nonstandard print particularly for the era.

>expanding your wardrobe
>finding your style
>public perception: testing the waters, bullying/discouragement from close people
>shopping at Japanese auction sites
>meet ups (in detail)

I'd like to do one myself since I tend to get a lot of people asking questions after the panel and not enough time to discuss them.

I think a "How to Host a Meet Up" would be a good panel and could be useful for cosplayers too.

It's more or less like what you've done, but there is one or two inches leeway: If you don't mind your knees showing, or if you're looking at a low poof dress, shorter dresses often look okay. Change your legwear to tights if there's too much leg showing.

Now, if 96cm is barely the length from your shoulder to ass, you'll definitely need a longer dress.

Yeah it depends, just check in with your own comm's rules. Different comms will have different rules for different reasons - some other people have shared their similar rules so it sounds like perhaps your comm has that rule in play for some sort of reason (maybe in the past people kept trying to host inappropriate/lame events idk). Personally in my own comm meets don't need to be cleared with any mod or admin, but I think it's generally accepted that before people have a meet, the host should post in the page to see who is interested, dates, and then start an event page from there. Sometimes people in my comm may not want to host a meet but will post something in the group as a polite suggestion like "I found this place, can we have a meet up there sometime?".

Not that much really.
AP jsk is around $300. If you're charging 20% (which is a very high rate), that's $60.
To get that $60, you probably had to wait in line (and had to dress up in AP for the release depending on the store), do the shuffle, probably wait another couple hours, find time to go to the post office (hard if you work normal hours, have to travel to a main one on weekends which might be far), wait more in line, deal with a million demanding emails asking "did you ship it yet/I want this rare thing at CC for $100 or less plz check every day/I changed my color preference/etc", hope customers get their packages safely and don't PP claim you (now there's 180 days limit), deal with currency exchange fees from PP and bank. Now consider that most SS charge 5-15% - $15-45max for a $300 item. Is it really worth the trouble? You're probably getting min wage or less out of the work put in.
Not to mention that soooo many SS get into money problems. They use customers' order money for themselves (own bills/shopping) and then have to get new customers so they can pay for pervious customer's items, and it becomes a cycle where they get more and more behind - this has happened so many times.
If you really want to be a SS you have to really be responsible, on top of orders, a good communicator, good with managing money, and accept the fact that the work vs payoff is low.
Chibi tenshi gets her money by being able to do high volume, but even she is struggling as you probably have seen with many posts saying that she hasn't responded for weeks. Any other SS would be crucified by now probably, but because she's built up a reputation she hasn't got it too bad, though I expect her reputation starting to take a hit

This is a weird question, but I recently bought some brand from a local convention and I'm kind of wondering if I got gypped.
Does anyone know how convention booths mark up their prices or whether they have to pay part of their profits to the con for hosting them or what?
The item I bought was 13000 yen (google converts this to a little under 120.00) but even factoring in my state sales tax, it doesn't add up to what I paid (nearly 170usd)
The sales girl (a member of the con's local volunteer force) initially told me ~160 then added on another 10 for tax? Import tax? What is this extra $50 coming from?
I could have bought it through their webstore for cheaper at this point.
Has anyone else ever had something like this happen to them?

you will need to use a shopping service. you can use buyee for yahoo japan, and fromjapan offers service for both mbok and yja. fyi when you're bidding on mbok using fromjapan, you will need to use the 'shopping' form instead of the auction link (for yja only).

both websites can walk you through it but if you google things like "how to use buyee"/"how to use fromjapan" and other similar terms there's guides on how to use them as well as some videos - I know misslillith made a video about fromjapan

but essentially it works like this:
you would input the link to the auction into the service you are using, and you will fill out the information they ask for - usually item amount, and your max bid. depending on what SS you use it will ask you for a deposit of your max bid.

when bidding on FJ for yja items, you will need to deposit however much money you need into your FJ account before you can bid. for mbok items on FJ they either charge you the full amount of your max/bin or they wait to see if it's "in stock" (again, you need to use the shopping link for mbok so I think that's just a system thing) before they bill you, I forget tbh.

for buyee, which again only does service for YJA, you only get billed if you win the auction. it doesn't cost any money to bid, you don't need to put in any sort of deposit. you could bid 500 dollars on a dress and lose but you won't spend any money.

FJ and buyee have different fees though, so it's best to do some research to figure out which one you will prefer. I don't like the deposit thing FJ does but I do like their service, the website is easy to use, and they also will store things in their warehouse for up to 30 days.

But it wasn't retail...it was directly from the designer, who was also a guest at the convention.
The price tag on their item was presumably from the store in Japan where they brought it over from, but it wasn't in USD. Adding to the shiftiness was the fact that the next stall OVER, not the actual brand booth, was calculating the tally for the shop girls because they didn't have their own register. This was a big name brand, too--not specifically lolita, but definitely a higher-ranking brand than, for example, putumayo.

Dude, where am I 'fussing'?
If fifty dollars was a big deal to me, I just wouldn't have bought the item.
What concerns me is the idea that either
A) the designer was simply raising the prices simply because they figured western weebs would never bother to check the webstore price/"gaijin tax"
Or B) the volunteer staff/ the booth next door manning their hand-operated register was pocketing some of the profit.
If it's A, I don't want to support a brand like that, if it's B then obviously nothing can be done about it now, but it kind of explains why the price hike on other items (the ones that DID have USD price stickers on them) was around ~$20 rather than ~$50.
I'm just asking whether anyone else has had similar experiences and knows how the price hike is accounted for.

I like Japonica - I used them once on Mbok and twice on Y!A. I really don't know how the fees work, tbh since I usually send them my max budget for a dress and they will bid that. If a dress for example cost 100 - I tend to say to have a max bid of 150. They will invoice me for 150 plus the paypal fee. If it sells for 100 then they apply the extra 50 to the commission, shipping to them and EMS to you. If it's not enough then they will invoice you with for the remaining balance. They will also refund you if you paid too much rather all those additional fee are brought in.

If the items ends up being 200 then they will email you asking what you want to do. If you want to continue bidding or if you want a refund.

I like them but I do want to try buyee since having to put down a deposit does kinda suck and if you are counting on that money, paypal can be dumb and refund that money after between 2 days and a week.

Just keep in mind that not all buyers accept bank transfers and buyee's interface will flatout tell you that you can't bid on this item

What are you confused by? The sale already started, the banner will take you to the sales page, or you can click Online Store > Sale to get there. The prices written in red are already marked down. You have to click to the item pages to check if it's still available or not (the sales pages look quite full, but quite a lot of items are actually sold out once you try to buy them).

Use the shopping cart, check out, and wait for Baby to invoice you (ie- you must receive two emails, the second one will have international shipping added to the total plus what paypal address to pay to). The shopping cart is real time, if it's in your cart when you check out, the item is yours (barring freaky bad luck). If you don't get a second email after a week, email baby and say you didn't get an invoice. Don't flake on payment or change your mind after you check out, that's ground for Baby to ban you.

I guess the Red sold out in stores before it even went up. There won't be stock of it till October now.

Blue sold out within 2 or so minutes.
Black was sold out within 8.

I managed to snag the black! Which I'm beyond excited about.

As of now, the lavender and second order for red are still in stock for this cut. Everything is in stock for the other one.

Has anybody experienced ordering a new dress/skirt directly from a brand, and upon arrival there were quality issues that were immediately noticeable? How did you react? Did you alert the brand, or vent online, or both?

I just got a skirt from a brand, and while at first glance it's beautiful, upon closer inspection I noticed some wonky sewing. There is uneven stitching around the waist. In another spot, at what I assume had been an attempt at back-stitching, the stitched line is in the form of a long "Z". In the same area I found two loose threads.

It's not noticeable at all unless you look very closely. But it's a bit disappointing for me because I have never experienced any quality issues with this brand until now. (Every item I've bought from them has never left my closet. They're that good... generally, at least.)

I feel that either it was a sample skirt and sold to me by mistake, OR a staff person intentionally put it in for a foreign order thinking that a customer abroad would either not notice or not bother to complain about these quality issues.

The brand in question is NOT Baby, so don't think I'd be blacklisted. But at the same time, would it be even worth it to contact them about it? I'd be OK with even a 15% refund.

For the record, I know some Japanese due to being raised bilingual, I'm absolutely terrified of committing a cultural faux pas as I haven't lived in Japan for most of my life.

I just found this on Qutieland while searching for jackets to get ready for winter. I feel like it would be considered ita automatically but I also feel like I'm gonna die if I don't get it.
Should I buy it or is it too ita?
