My go to is Nekocon, I dunno I end up hanging out with the VA's every year, everyone just seems friendlier when it is smaller. I don't know how to explain it. Larger cons just everyone is task oriented, instead of just hand out, chill, and talk about good times with eachother.

Baltimore sort of rioted, AB for comparison is at a steady 27K (its cap is 30, 35K). I expect DC to trend at 25-30K for year one and to just start exploding since DC is still close enough that the NY region can come with decent travel time but you now can make it viable to come from the gateway to the west and the northern southern states like NC.

I am going to blame Otakon it's self for the drop in attendees. I live in DC and a huge chunk of people that I normally see who go aren't going this year. It has nothing to do with the riots (because that shit would be stupid to be afraid to go to a con because of) but the price. And that price is about twice as much as going to AX.

I live in the area too and majority of my friends are not going. I am still debating. I haven't bought my badge yet. Otakon used to be the must go convention for me, but now I am fine with Magfest and Katsucon.

Also a lot of the people I know have been attending Otakon since 2001/2002 and just want to move on to conventions with older people (Magfest.)

Otakon 2005 and earlier seemed to be the best years for me. Once it started to get crowded, it became less and less fun. I feel like I started to go out of habit. If I go this year, it will probably be the last one for me. Not going when it moves to DC (although it will be closer to me and easier by metro.)

I've been going to Otakon for like fifteen years now... So u feel like it's a force of habbit but I do find myself still having fun. My biggest issue with the convention is the amount of people crammed into the convention center which means that the lines are long and annoying, and there are too many people to be able to move around comfortably.

How is the artist alley at Otakon? Last year was my first Otakon and I didn't know such a place existed and just spent all my money at the dealer's room. I regret because there were some rad stuff being sold. I'm going again this year and will go to the alley this time but I'm looking at some of the artists this year and I'm worried it will all be shit.

To be honest I always find some hot stuff in Otakon Artist ally. Of course there is always going to be the good and bad, but it's worth going there for the good. I also like peeking at the art show although there seems to be more and more prints.... I like looking at the actual painted stuff. Normally a few gems in there.

I will say there are very few things about Baltimore I will miss. It gets worse and worse every year.

it's great! it's always a pretty mixed bag of people so you need to spend the time to really check everybody out. there are a lot of great artists do that great fan and original work that come to exhibit so it's absolutely worth checking out. a met a lot of great artists last year and have every time i've come. ask for business cards for artists you like and you can find out more about them and where they post stuff when you get home! AAs are awesome fun and one of the main draws for me

did anyone else have the Otakon site give their hotel the wrong dates for the reservation? I called my hotel yesterday just to make sure they had me in and te Otakon site had told them Friday-Saturday nights instead of Thursday-Saturday. I had to call the Otakon site and they told me that it could take up to 24 hours to resolve the issue.

Some of you know me, some of you don't. I should be at the /cgl/ meetups on both Friday & Saturday. They are usually really fun and one of the biggest highlights of Otakon for me.

One or both of the nights I'm going to attempt a very poor TDKR Bane cosplay. I'll mostly use this as a way to help people that have never been to a /cgl/ meetup to find the group. Feel free to verbally banepost because people at AnimeNext did it to me while I was there.

Not sure of the exact times for the /cgl/ meets but they always start at the main fountains in the BCC. After about an hour gathering people at the fountains and having fun, we goto a local tavern for pool, fun, drinks.

Hope alot of you show up so I can meet new people.

1. How does the con feel about playing music? Because I'm going as Alex from HM2 and I wanted to have a speaker in the backpack playing the HM2 soundtrack.
2. Do parking garages have times when they "close" and you can't get your car out until the next day? I have no idea because I live in the country and the concept of a city is still strange to me
