There is a few people who are attributed to it being a thing. One of them is Lana Del Ray who got it into the tumblr fashion girls, and this is partly why flower crowns got popular in fashion and was everywhere in the summer. The fandom stuff is more likely from some 1D dude who said he wanted to wear flowers in his hair, which led to fans photoshopping this. The trend moved from 1D to other fandoms on tumblr, and when it hit the bigger ones such as Supernatural it exploded. So it was very common to have every picture from popular shows have flower crowns added to them, fan art of this being a thing was popular, and then I guess now people are just plopping it onto their cosplays like they did with fawn makeup.

It's not exactly new.....
But anyway, as an asian that does this type of make up I will give my two cents. If I draw on eyeliner that will show up well on camera, my crease will (emphasize on will) disappear. My crease is just too low. Idk if it's just because youve never looked at and compared asian eyelids with any other race's eyelids, but our creases do not folf at the edge of our eyeball. It is very low. I'm lucky enough even to have a crease so my everyday make up can just be a thin winged line, but Cosplay make up has to be more dramatic to really Pop in photos. So then the best alternative is to either use eyelid tape/glue, draw it on, or both (I've seen all three, I prefer to draw it on because it's easier). Just with practice you can make a very convincing crease, or some people prefer to make it very dramatic. Same with the fake waterline. This has been around for as long as gyaru make up has been around (or even longer) and is nothing new. It is literally to make eyes appear bigger and even to help change the eye shape to help match the character. I do this too with droopy eye characters (I don't wing up eye eyeliner, I continue the line downwards then connect my bottom lash line from around the midde with the top line. Again with practice you can make it very convincing and natural, or you can choose to make it very dramatic and obvious.
