Honestly, if you're going to go THAT casual, why not just go for fairy kei if you're sticking with pastels? I haven't seen any good outfits that I could call "lolita" with sneakers.

I don't think this is necessarily one of these "brand released it so it is lolita" debates, but more like obviously non-lolita items in coords experimentation.

I like seeing how experienced coorders can incorporate non-lolita items flawlessly in outfits. I'm interested to see if anyone has any fun ideas with this too.

I think it can work ONLY with sweet lolita because of the crossover with fairy kei, decora etc. because new school sweet is the least attached to historically influenced roots, sneakers fit in better amidst all those unnatural colors, obviously synthetic fabrics, plastic jewelry, toy themed accessories etc. I quite like the whimsical 80s and 90s kid aesthetic as emblems of youth (not in a lolicon way) standing in for mary janes in casual coordinates. I don't like sweet all that much but I do use lolita skirts and sneakers for casual fairy kei/pop kei/oshare influenced casual outfits

No fuck you. Sneakers are NEVER appropriate for lolita. Our idea of casual lolita is wrong. Casual lolita doesn't mean a tshirt-like cutsew and a skirt with sneakers. It means a toned down coord. Cutsews are OK if they resemble a blouse. A casual coord would be a simple skirt and blouse. Or perhaps a plain jsk and a blouse that's not too ruffly. Or even a simpler print. The idea that wearing a T-shirt and sneakers is OK as long as you wear a brand skirt is stupid and contributing to the massive amount of itas

I think that sneakers are okay in daily coordinates. I mean, people say "well sneakers aren't lolita" but people wear boots with lolita? Some of the 'lolita' shoes are clunky as shit. I'm not saying it should be okay all the time, I'm just saying that there are times when it's okay to bend the rules and experiment. Sweet is probably the ONLY substyle that I can work with though. And only certain styles of sneakers could work. New Balance? No, Fairy-kei style or shoes put put by brand? Possible.

I think what people like you are thinking of is generic sneakers, which I agree with. Brands, mostly AP and BtSSB, make them to go with certain sweet coords. Obviously you have read all the posts about sneakers in a lolita coord is bad, however you can wear tea party shoes. There flat like shoes that still hold the lolita aesthetic (i actually find them more comfortable than sneakers)

And they come in a ton of colors and places like An*tai*na and angelic imprint carries then too in a ton of sizes as well.

I love tea party shoes because they seem comfier, but they always have a really awkwardly thin sole, and it looks bad to me. Are there any good tea party shoes with better soles? Like .75"-1" soles?

Honestly sneakers kind of make a coord look a little quirkier than wearing tea parties. It's kinda cute in its own way, but definitely can only be used sparingly. It has to be a little casual romp-around coord and not a fancy OTT coord for it to work, and even then the shoes have to match 100%.

Can you all just shut up? I love lolita, but my feet get tired so fast from wearing heels and flats hurt my feet because I have flat feet. Sneakers are comfortable and if they match I don't see a problem. This is the same thing as when people get mad when they see a cosplayer with sneakers instead of heels or sandals for a cosplay. Your feet get tired.

If you know your feet are going to get tired after a while, plan ahead with sneakers that will match your coord, then do it. It is still lolita. Its just shoes.

Dresses, accessories I can understand. The main points of lolita is, personally, what makes lolita. I think any shoes can work as long as they match. To say it isn't lolita just because of the shoes it like saying a cosplaying isn't a cosplay because you are missing one aspect that isn't the huge, main piece, but something small like no contacts.

If you really want to stretch it then call it 'ita', but this whole discussion is about something that is, frankly, nitpick.

Agreed. Id like to get some cute platform sneakers in pastel or white to go with my sweet dresses like sugary carnival or milky planet. Something cute to wear toned down and casual. Im not going to wear them with iron gaye or vampire requiem, because they would flat out look stupid with mature elegant prints like that. But with most sweet dresses they allready look goofy and fun anyways so depending on the color or style that matches i don't get the big deal. The dress and the silhouette are the main things that make it lolita anyways.

Yes. Thank you for agreeing. For sweet coords I believe sneakers would look fantastic. Some black platforms for gothic, but the more elegant prints I can see where heels and boots would look better, but again. If you know your feet are going to get tired, especially at places like meets, then by all means bring whatever shoe you want to change in to.

Every time I see a coord with the 'wrong shoe' I pretty much assume their feet got sore. I don't dredge on them like other anons about it because its not that big of a deal to me. Maybe I'm just nice like that, but shoes really don't bother me. Especially when the rest of the coord looks amazing.

Get custom made arch supports through your doctor, this helped for me. And if you're really going to pull the orthopaedic thing, you can get better, more supportive and comfortable shoes that will work with lolita than sneakers.

If you want to wear sneakers then wear them, just don't post to CoF expecting everyone to fawn over your coord.
