Hes just up his old trick, shoot with the better well known cosplayers. Doesn't matter if the photo is shit, it'll still gather loads of likes based on the popularity of the cosplayers. This is why UK cosplay photographers will never improve, because even when its shoddy work it still get shit of likes so the photographer thinks thats what people want to see. I'm really disappointed in kyle ATM. His photography was really good until about MCM OCT and since then it's gone crashing down hill.

We even used to say we liked his work here, and we pretty much agreed that he was good. If you ignored the personality.
But now the photos are poor. Then again there is a chance that it might lie with the cosplays. Some are good at posing than others which helps and makes a photo good no matter what photographer.

The cut on his trousers is off. Why is the crotch so low?
The belt is just wrong.
His top isn't that sort, it should sit just above the waistline on his pants.
And the sewing in general is poor. Things like the ^ cut outs could be done neater and made so they don't end up rounded.
The R's also look sloppy.

And I just noticed you can see her chest, meaning the white top is too short, and too small so she can't move well in it.

Thats the thing, a good photographer will not only be able to pose their subject but also make the image good to look at regardless if the costume is good or bad. Of course having both good cosplay and good photographer is ideal. Thats why other country are way ahead in that respect.

The cosplayers are willing to pay a good photographer to shoot their costume they have slaved over and the photographer in turn takes time to pre arrange the location and plan the poses beforehand.

1) To all you asshats who don't understand fabric or how to sew, both of them are stood in extreme stretched poses, so the cut/pull etc is gonna look a little iffy

2) you could call this effect bad posing but considering the characters it kinda seems like they were going with ridiculous which works.

3) following on from that that's why the background is so tacky it's team rocket, queens of tacky!

4) I doubt any of you know the photographer or cosplayers personally so don't try and be all personally insulting when you don't have any idea what your talking about

5)get a god damn hobby or something, shitting all other people's work for no reason seems well...pathetic.

Yeah a few people have been complaining about the organisation of Cosplay comps/guests too. Apparently there's no word about anything, and Cosplay guests were only asked to attend this week.

I think denying the togs press tickets is fine, as the event is getting bigger and they have to prioritise people that will bring in money. I think its more that they've sorted out press tickets so late that those denied aren't able to get tickets to the event at all, meaning LFCC will have even less press than normal. Its really unprofessional of Show masters to leave this all to the last minute

Ehh. Not OP, but there was someone getting their panties in a bunch about the recipients of the info email being carbon copied in instead of blind carbon copied. Which I get, that is a legit concern if your personal email is being sent out visible to a bunch of strangers. But instead of dealing with the issue privately, they decided to send a copy of their condescending reply to all of the participants. Which was... unnecessary.

Also, getting upset about the 'unprofessional' tone of the emails. Yes, they've been more on the polite-friendly side than professional. But we're all just a bunch of nerds in costume, and it's not like it's even a serious competition now there's no ECG prelims. Chill.

I have finished another costume on top of the one I was planning to wear but the one I was planning to wear is a bit delicate and I've entered it in for the cosparade later in the afternoon. I'm wondering if it's worth wearing the new costume for the first half of the day and then change into the more delicate one later so I know it'll have less battle damage from the day for on stage. My only concern is that the delicate costume is more well known/popular and the other one is pretty obscure and I'm wondering if I'm going to miss out on photographers in the first session if I do this. Does anyone here know what the judges are like at MCM for skit performances?

I'm entering the performance side with a short skit at Manchester this year and I SERIOUSLY hope there are no singing entries going in because literally EVERY TIME I have watched an MCM masquerade with a singing entry they win.
Regardless of if the singing was good or not. Which 95% of the time it isn't because it just sounds like shit karaoke because of the acoustics/set up. Or if there were other, better entries that actually constructed a skit/choreographed their own dance etc.

It pisses me off because I think they think it takes more balls to go up on stage and dance. Skits are just as nerve wracking.

A lot of them are bad, yeah. But skits seem to be much more popular in America than over here and a lot of the really good ones are from American cons. I did a lot of research as to what works and doesn't so I'm just hoping it isn't that bad. If it doesn't work out, well hey, I tried right?

And really, like >>8471770 says, what would you rather sit through? 4 sets of different people dancing to Renai Circulation or something thats in the slightest a little more entertaining and original?

>> No.8471802

Skits are embarrassing and cringey as fuck though. They are almost never entertaining or funny. Hell, the only decent one at LSCC was the penguin and joker song. IMO competitions shouldn't be performance based at all, and should be more like the american ones, where you go on stage, pose, and get asked some questions by the judges

>> No.8471810

>>8471794
You do have a point there that I hadn't thought about.
But I have watched previous performances from Brit cons that worked out well too and I don't think the humour is -that- different seen as most people who go to cons are in on the same in-jokes and know the same songs etc.
I don't really know how to word it. I mean it's my first skit and if I fuck up, I fuck up. I accept that. If when I've done it, it gets posted here and gets torn apart, so be it.
But I've come to the conclusion that:

-Making it too long winded
-Too many memes/cheap jokes
-Jokes only people who have seen the show will understand
-Bad stage presence
-Bad audio/lip sync

all make for a shitty performance.

Although I could be called guilty for having a meme joke in my skit I don't think memes are necessarily bad in themselves. It is a comfort blanket in case the rest of the skit isn't funny to the audience. But like i say, it's my first skit, it's a solo one and memes are a sort of universal humour.

>> No.8471823

>>8471802
That's personal preference though really? I really enjoy watching skits even if they are cringey.
I think the best thing they could do is just have it time tabled in that the first half of the show be dedicated to walk ons and the second half to performances so that the people who want to watch either side can just come along, grab a seat and watch whichever side they want.

I can remember at MCM the masquerade goes on for ages and a group of guys did this weird fighting skit that was based on a game and it was just boring and unfunny and consisted of them play fighting onstage in bad wigs and challenging each other to crappy fights and one of them was stomping around as if he was this giant hulk but was just a kid wearing a sleeveless shirt and a blonde mullet trying to act mean. just when you thought they had finally finished they then switched into another segment when they pretended they were actually playing the game. Some people cheered and were into but it was so fucking lame.

I like the american way. It's less than a skit but more than a walk on.

IMO I think maybe 40 second of pose/performance/that stuff, then the judges (who need to be on stage, and because of the way this works, fucking knowledgeable) should ask questions about the costume, and the entrant needs to explain how it's made ect.

I think it would be good because it would let the audience know how much work goes into it.
>And then I covered the worbla in gesso then painted it
vs
>I made my own pattern from nothing, used xyz fabric after I hand dyed it and xyz method to make this, then fitted it and spent 40 hours decorating it.

I just think it would help the audience see the difference between the work that goes into costumes.

Also it means the judges actually have to do some work and ask the right questions.

>> No.8471993

>>8471867
That's what pre-judging is for, that way you can have 5minutes with each entrant asking how they made their costume and get up and close to the costumes and see how well executed the construction, sewing, weathering is etc.
That's the sort of stuff you don't get see and can easily miss if you're having to judge them based solely just what they did on stage

It's considered bad practice among photographers to airbrush photos that heavily unless a client pays for it or a job dictates it. The standard is the two week rule, meaning you only airbrush out things which wouldn't be there in two weeks' time, like a spot or a small cut or bruise. If somebody has a mole or a birthmark or a scar or some other permanent feature, that shit does not get touched. You only see it happen with American con togs because there's a higher concentration of rank amateurs there who don't think about these things and in Japan you don't notice it because the Japanese style of photography dictates overexposure, desaturation and lens diffusion filters which blur out fine details like that.

If you want your face airbrushed from hambeast to FHM front cover then you've got to specifically ask for it in advance and most of the time you'll need to pay. Shit takes time and you can't expect people to piss away an hour or more for free.

Yeah there was no judging and basically on the Saturday we had to show up at this tiny desk in the corner of the gaming section and try and get into a line when there was about 48 of us and no room to actually form one. Eventually when we got to the tiny ass stage we sorted ourselves out into an order but I didn't even know the thing had started until it was nearly my turn to go on. There was a lot of people that showed up right before going on stage even though we were told if you weren't there 30 minutes before you wouldn't be allowed to go on but they still managed to get on stage I think. I don't know if they did it differently on Friday or Sunday but that's how it was Saturday.

Swear to god so many togs couldn't care less about making a cosplayer actually look good? There's a lot of focus on like "the perfect shot" but very little on like what flatters the cosplayer. Like all well and good if the background's pretty and the colours look good or whatever but if the actual cosplayer looks a bit shit because of things that could easily be tweaked i.e birthmarks, stray hairs, etc. and then they're not happy with the photo like...it's not like huge amounts of editing to change their face or body.

>> No.8476239

I don't even mean heavily. Most photogs here literally edit lighting (if that) and forget the cosplayer all together. Unfortunate angles/faces of cosplayers are posted because the composition is nicer. Things like spots and stray hairs are ignored. And there have been cases where people have paid and the edits are still shit-tier compared to standards abroad.

There were a few pretty serious costumes that I honestly doubt would have bothered for just a walk-on, walk-off thing on such a tiny shitty stage with a relatively small audience. I heard at least one of the contestants actually asking about what was going on with the pre-judging, too.

Normally there are prizes for the cosparade, or at the very least mentions for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and juniors. It's not a competition as such more like kudos to people who did a good job. It seems odd they didn't do it this year?

That's what I was expecting, but nope, there wasn't even that much. Seems kinda shit that there was zero recognition for anyone at all.

I was only there on the Sunday though, maybe Saturday was different?

Nope, Saturday was the same. It was a nice thing for newbie cosplayers to do or for younger cosplayers but other than that it was very pointless.
