Honestly I don't think mori boy is that difficult or very different from mori girl, it's just that there's not many pictures so if you aren't able to visualize something in your head you might have trouble.

Mori has an air of eco friendly lifestyle vibe to it, so resale and vintage are suitable both for mori lifestyle and fashion style. You sound like you either don't have any good shops in your area, or you have something against resale shopping. If it's that there are no good shops in your area, I feel your pain. I live in a crappy rural Midwest area and there's nothing remotely "cool" in my entire state as far as I'm aware. If the latter is the case, just give it a try, don't be like my ex friend who refused to even so much as look at the sale rack of a store. I asked her to go to a consignment store with me once and she actually got mad at me over it, it was so beneath her. I've found a few great finds resale shopping. The majority of mori find most of their clothes resale.

I'll post a couple outfit photos, if that will help you guys get inspired and give some ideas on what to look for. Pic related is obviously a girl, but the outfit could easily be translated into a guy's outfit.

Actually I always try to avoid synthetic fibers in my mori cords because it looks more "natural." Plus I'm not a huge fan of synthetics. Id say a none is the idea, but having them as an accent or minority is more realistic and they do make mori style things with synthetics sometimes.

I've been able to find basics and rustic pieces, but they don't capture the light, airy quality the mori has.

A lot of the mori boys you posted share a similar problem. They don't feel Mori, just like a bunch of mismatched hillbillies.

Mori has an enchanting, fairytale like aura to it, that you can't get by layering old flannels.

I'm not trying to be stubborn or insist that you weren't helpful, some of the outfits shown were pretty cool, but in general I feel like the mark wasn't hit.

I think the problem is, traditionally "masculine" clothing isn't light or airy feeling, where "feminine" clothing is. If you're going to gender the clothes and say "I want to wear this boy for boys," it's going to be really hard to do, and each time I add a more "fairytale" element to the men's look it ends up looking more like natural kei or dolly kei.

The outfits I chose were based on the same concept of mori girl, What a boy who lives in the forest might look like. I agree with you that most of them don't convey the feeling mori is suppose to have, but I really don't think any men's clothing has that look.

Japanese interpretations (the few that are out there) of mori boy are not enchanting or fairy like.
It's usually a rugged outdoorsy look.

Other than taobao and aliexpress, are there any decent stores for mori on say, storenvy or elsewhere that charge reasonable prices? I have had a look there but unless you find a specialist store, you kinda just get inundated with a bunch of irrelevant crap or poor looking clothing in general.

When I'm not using the places you mentioned, I like to occasionally shop the second-hand clothing stores for mori pieces on rakuten.

Most of these shops use EMS shipping, but I've found pieces as cheap as $1.
Along with their point system you can get really good deals.

Most storenvy, amazon, ebay stores peddle the same stuff you can find on Ali and Taobao unfortunately.

Stores like Forever21, Charlotte Russe, Ross, Macys etc occasionally have pieces that can work but again, you have to hunt.

Stick with materials like cotton, hemp and linen if you must layer.

Also many mori brand items utilize faux layers so you can have the look, but not be pilled down in garments.

Is Dark Mori a Japanese fashion shoot off of Mori or is it mostly just a western adaptation. Couldn't you just do mori style in darker, cooler colors and it would still just be mori, not needing any special new name?

Yes for the most part. All though there are some examples of dark colors in mori, the strega dark mori influence is definitely a western creation.

I was going through the mori girl tag on tumblr and it is just dead. I feel like liking mori girl now is like liking 2001 ganguro. It was neat at the time, but now just seems outdated. I still want to love mori, but there is no support for it like lolita. At least it gets more love than natural kei which I put above lolita and mori girl as my favorite jfashion.

I was at forever 21 yesterday and they had a lot of long dresses/over dresses with cool lace or interesting knitting. Some with fake layers I believe. Some of it was pretty mori.
If anyone lives near one I'd recommend looking
