I got accepted into my first lolita fashion show with AATP/BtSSB, and I'm kind of confused.

Should I go there unstyled? Do you take care of your own hair and make-up or do they do it for you? Do you only wear their clothes during the fashion show and take them off right afterwards?

I'm really curious about what the routines usually are. I don't want to mess up on my first time because I'm kind of clumsy.

For fitting: go looking "put together" - don't come in full lolita, wear something that's easy to get off/on. Come with makeup basics on (foundation, mascara, like that) but nothing crazy

Actual show, your makeup and hair SHOULD be provided in the show but they usually aren't so be prepared for that.

I would double check to see if you should arrive unstyled or not. See if they are providing a hair and MUA or not. And I would personally arrive in light, comfortable clothes that won't leave a ton of lines on your skin so you can change into whatever they ask you to wear. Bring a small suitcase with your lolita attire, unless if they're providing the outfits too.

I really need help with this. I ordered a skirt from Meta for a themed meet but it won't get here on time. Although its a cute print, I definitely wanted to use it for this meet especially. It's not even in my favorite colorway so...

Would I be able to get a refund from meta? I know on the site it says as long as its untouched, I can get a refund. But should I just avoid signing for the package and have it return to sender? Or just send it back myself? I'd resell it but it'd be for a loss likely.

The shortened katakana for coordinate is コーディ, コ ーis ko, ディwith de a small i to change the de sound to di, but if you stop at the de then it become co-de instead of co-di. That's how the mistake happens.

There's a Japanese app/site called codenote for sharing your ootd selfies, which says something about how widespread it is to say code instead of coordi.

Honestly, instead of trying to shove a non lolita dress into a lolita coord, I think a much, much better idea is just to coord it in a style your personally like, it looks good, and don't bother with the lolita label at all. You don't need to wear lolita to be cute.

Most of the jfashion brands that have been doing lolita-style outfits put their own aesthetic on it. For instance, both your dress and this DreamV dress looks kinda slouchy, the bows in particular looks soft and the dresses seem to have no struture. It works with their aesthetic, because "slouchy" translates to "soft and comfortable", but in lolita, it translates to "sloppy" and "unrefined". Most times you look at a dress and you *think* it will work, but then it arrives and you suddenly realise that the dress looks sub-par because the hem lace isn't gathered or because the skirt lacks design details -- but these are things which the jfashion brands do on purpose, because they don't actually expect people to put petticoats under an axes femme or DreamV dress, so they don't put many details in their skirts.

If you're trying to find a budget lolita dress, one of the cheaper taobao brands would be so much easier to work with, at least the dresses are created with to fit over petticoats and bows aim to look perky.

If you're trying to buck the trend and find that one axes femme/DreamV dress that can be full-on lolita, maybe the jfashion thread would be a better place, please don't spam the lolita general with stuff that isn't lolita.

Their sales usually start around the same time they release their lucky packs and normally they start before the other brands do.

I've been saving all year for this!

It's easier if you simply google "sky free tile background", you'll easily find lots of good, useable images of the sky that are already pre-set to tile properly, instead of going through the trouble of scanning shit in and getting the edges to line up properly.

It's also pretty easy to find "free moon clipart" to add moons, stars, crosses, pegasi or whatever to the sky tiles if that's what you fancy.

It's not about whether AP is going to "spontaneously combust" or not, it's about ethics. Most people consider buying replicas as a form of art theft, therefore they don't support the buying and selling of replicas.

Either way, can we just drop the replica issue? As if it's not such a tired subject already... Every time it comes up, the same conclusions are made:

Some people support replicas. Some people don't. You can buy replicas, it's your money. But just know that some people will look down on you for wearing replicas. End.

Honestly at minimum I expect all MTO to go for retail the first year after it comes out. At that point the dress is still new enough that girls don't mind paying retail, and there's usually a handful of girls who didn't have money during the MTO and want the dress badly enough to bid the price up. Celestial is a bit weird in that the prices hiked back up to around $800 after the MTO though, I've no idea why.

I feel like AP has been failing me lately.
Castle Mirage is probably the best most recent print, but it actually kind of bores me, which is surprising to me because I normally love prints similar to that design.
Fantastic Carnival is absolute shit.
Dreamy Planetarium comes close to that, too, and I also normally love any and every galaxy print (and cat prints).
The new mushroom print, I'm not even going to touch that one.
Luminous Sanctuary (the new unicorn print) is all right, but bores me even more then Castle Mirage does.
The last AP hype I got was for Mermaid Kingdom, somewhat for Dolly Cat, and the Misty Sky re-rerelease. Before that, even Dream Marine was "just okay" for me.
What's happened, AP? Normally I love nearly everything you put out, and I'm normally a total AP fag overall, but these?

I feel the opposite. Couldn't stand much of anything AP released in 2013-2014, but almost every single print they've released this year I've loved.

well, you gotta not look like an ageplayer, which is going to be hard especially if you have an angular face and can't makeup for shit. I think brolitas that most likely get accepted end up buying a lot of brand, can handle a normal conversation with people, and level up consistently in their coords. As for conversation topics, just talk about lolita related news, omg I love that print?! where'd you get it?!, food, etc.

>> No.8461269

>>8461187
Aspiring? How far along are you?
For a lolita meet, you need to have a full coord, look put together, wig and makeup nice, be up on the latest news, trends and topics so you can discuss them, have lovely table manners, know how to go through introduction pleasantries, give and receive compliments, be at ease in your coordinate and in a group. To attend future meets after that, more coordinates, not just repeating the same one, so more shopping.

I'd expect these of anyone but in addition, I think male Lolitas actually have to have better than usual social skills to really be accepted.

>> No.8461292

I don't even own anything yet. I've been trapped in an eternal circle of shopping and chickening out on purchasing something.

I figured maybe knowing more about actual meets (although I don't know if there's even any around my redneck town anyway) would give me the push I needed to start buying stuff.

Since I'm not really neck deep into it, I'm not too aware of any news and I would probably fuck up my first coord anyway.

Everything about the experience is unbelievably intimidating because half-assing it isn't a possibility. I just like cute dresses and want to wear cute dresses with other people also wearing cute dresses.

>> No.8461321

Well, my group often meets at a cafe or if we do movies or such, goes to the bar before or after. We talk about new releases, what we have coming in the mail, what we missed and what we want to buy coming up, recent cons and other meets we have attended or will attend, discuss plans or themes/ideas for future meets, talk about new makeup, lashes and lenses we have tried, bought or want, asking for opinions on that, take selfies together and usually a group photo, admire each other's outfits and ask questions about them, sometimes ask about school or work but not in a stressful way, sometimes some gossip but that also varies from comm to comm, (my group frowns on Tumblr-type stuff or online gossip). Sounds like you need a mentor or 2 then for sure. I understand why you are hesitating on jumping in and there's good reason to, especially depending on your size and what styles you like. But it's even hard for girls to get into it sometimes and we manage!

Look up to see if there is a comm near you and if they have a FB page or something. See who the mods and members are and what they look like, if there are any male members, etc. That may give you some clues to what will fit in better in your area. Some comms are very casual and hold more private meets, others dress up more and do more public things.

>> No.8461516

I make sure that for every item I buy, I will have at least one coord it can fit into. It's harder the more colors and styles you have, but try to follow that rule. The problem with having many different items that can't go with each other, is that you can't mix and match your wardrobe as much, so you will have fewer possible coords for each item.

I'm personally sticking to sweet lolita for now, even though I love gothic, too. I want to build up a good sweet wardrobe first, then I will start branching out more. But I do like having a variety of colors, so I get dresses in different colors, but have blouses, shoes, and accessories in neutral colors that can match many of them. I have most of my basics covered now, so I can buy more things for specific color schemes and themes.

Well, it depends on your budget and your style but you can start by upping your skincare game, practicing makeup tutorials and get some advice to help you decide on a good wig because you KNOW you are going to need these and they are very important for a male lolita to master. >> No.8461720

Just an assumption. I'm sure it's fine for girls, but I still assume that I'd need to be a little more knowledgeable first before I would be able to do that. Personally, I think I come off as a slightly creepy guy in just normal situations, and I have huge concerns trying to overcome that. I'm also 23 and single, which might be getting into the range of suspected ageplay or what have you.

Additionally, the prospect of learning how to utilize makeup is the most intimidating. I've always been a shower and run a comb through your hair kind of guy.

Anyway, thanks for the help everybody. I'll stop plaguing the thread with my dumb problems and lack of initiative.
