Honestly I love the idea of cutsews, I mean a blouse that's also a tee-shirt? Hell yeah I'm up for that

Yet I don't see them a lot in Lolita fashion, or at least recently. Are cutsews just an old school trend now or what?

I love cutsews, and given that brands still make a considerable amount of them, they're definitely not dying, I just don't think people post coords with them as much, which is a shame. I love seeing casual stuff, which cutsews make a lot easier to do, like pic related.

I guess I've been trained to accept blouses you know?
It's like 80 degrees + high humidity, having a cute shirt I can machine wash is a blessing

I wear cutsews all the time, but only buy them if they're under $50 on LM. It's ridiculous to pay $100 for what's basically a t-shirt. I try to find the ones with fancy collars though so it's not just a tshirt under my JSK.

If I could find cutsews that would go with my Lolita clothes, I'd wear Lolita all the time. I find blouses uncomfortable, especially when I'm already wearing a petticoat. Cutsews would make Lolita wearable daily for me. I also live somewhere with crazy hot and humid summers and really cold winters, so cutsews are way more comfortable for both those conditions.

I only own one offbrand cutsew. I wish I could find a few for cheap. I watch CC but so far haven't found any that would match what I own right now.

Pic related is one of my favorite cutsews even though it's less Lolita and more casual wear. I wear mostly casual Lolita though so I guess it would work for me.

>> No.8417457

I only wear cutsews, but I make them myself.

>> No.8417459

Most of them aren't worth the price. I like them but can often find offbrand tshirts trimmed with lace, bow prints and actual bows which is alright for what I'd call a 'lolita-influenced/inspired' outfit rather than casual lolita. I know it sounds weird but I prefer to wear regular cute t shirts with a proper lolita skirt, petti and shoes for casual, going out and about. Both options seem to work better for sweet and punk

A fancy cutsew might be nice under a jsk when you might be quite active or travelling a long distance, but for more classic styles I can't find a cutsew that is comfy enough without looking too cutesy or casual, so when I travel 5 hours on a bus to a wedding I'm going to be wearing a JSK with no blouse or cutsew and throw a bolero on instead.

My style is otome and casual lolita, so one of the reasons I make my own is to get that simpler cute style (and necklines and sleeve sizes that are more flattering for my shape). Cutsews are super versatile, though. I make them from scratch and use two basic silhouettes, set sleeves like this one and raglan sleeves, and change up the style of the collar or neckline, add lace, embroidery, buttons, short sleeves, long sleeves, etc, etc. You can really dress them up or down. Making cutsew boleros and cardigans is basically the same process. You can also use a men's size t-shirt to make yourself silly graphic print cutsews.

Turning a standard t-shirt pattern/tutorial into a puff sleeved top and adding a collar are easy alterations. If someone wants guidance I can post a quick tutorial. Square necks are slightly more advanced with set sleeves but easy with raglan sleeves.

I thought she had a spider on her face for a moment.

Nah that coord's a mess.
Maybe if you shortened a band shirt and added puff sleeves it might work for a casual gothic lolita look. Maybe.

I really like this, I just don't think it needs the rose or star clip, seems like overkill for a fairly casual, punky type lolita outfit. If being really nitpicky, I think the smaller striped bow needs to go up higher, worn closer to the larger one.

I like how she clearly has fun with and experiments with the fashion though. I know 'punk lolita' isn't a lot of people's cup of tea, especially since it clashes with notions or elegance and well-balanced coordination. I don't think it's 'ita' in itself though, and love it when it's done well (subject to interpretation yadda yadda).

i think punk lolita reminds Westerners too much of mallgoths, emo, scene, etc., and the teenagers that go with it. they associate the look with cheap Hot Topic shit and adolescent angst.

i like it too but it is difficult to overcome the social context for the stripes, plaid, funky hair styles, mixed patterns and textures, all that.

is it just me, or is the standard for casual lolita much higher than it used to be?

>> No.8449622

>>8449345
The top is cute but simple in style, the skirt has a yoke waistband and modest poof, the top, skirt, and tights have noticeable patterns that play off each other rather than match, and the motifs are not sugary sweet, elaborate Victorian, or gothy. The accessories are also cute but understated and the shoes are relatively mature. Those pieces could be coordinate with lolita, but put all together like that in one outfit it's an otome aesthetic.

>> No.8449633

>>8449490
Definitely, but that's because the availability of proper lolita garments is much higher so there's less excuse to look like shit.

>> No.8449649

>>8449490
It is. Western lolitas are make up rules out of their asses so anything disqualifies being lolita.

>> No.8449662

>>8449633
No, it's because Western lolitas are weird bossy control freaks. They'll snark on coordinates brands use in advertising.

>> No.8449689

>>8449662
Ok, but the bar has still been raised due to ease of availability. The coordinates that get tossed around as examples of 'REAL' casual, like the cutsew and skirt with no accessories type, are generally 5+ years old, which you can tell by the use of old(er) school items in a lot of them.

And before you decide to accuse me of being an OTTlita, I'm not. It's just a relevant factor in the raised expectations of all coordinates.

>> No.8449701

>>8449689
You don't have to cover yourself with accessories just because it's "available".

>> No.8449713

Are you really trying to argue that "accessibility" has raised the bar beyond coordinates that brands themselves put together? Because, uh...

>> No.8449721

>>8449701
You don't have to, but having an item or two that keeps the outfit actually styled in a lolita manner rather than 'it's lolita because I'm wearing a skirt and I say so' helps.

Anyone have a pic of bodyline P145 worn?

I always thought they were called cutsews because you could cut up a knit shirt and sew it back together with bows and ruffles from the same material. Or at least that's how I imagine they started.
