There are a few tell tale signs of replicas. One is that often times they will change a few non-obvious things here and there (the way bodice is or the style of the bows). Often this is hard to notice unless you know the garment well or own it yourself. Another sign is that the print looks cheap or not even in the right place (weird colours, the print is cut off, it looks pixely etc). Also things like lace quality and quality of tailoring can be off as well. This takes a more trained eye but I find once you own more brand and you see the replicas of it you can really start to notice a difference.

Honestly overall I am only able to notice replicas when I have seen the actual item in real life. Replicas are getting better and better and it is hard to notice unless you know what to look for.

Since looking like a cute and adorable doll was one of the core elements of lolita fashion. It's more of a nitpick tbh, but the sentiment still applies. I don't think lolitas look good with messy, unclean, non "loli-able" styled hair (or even side or middle parted hair with no frontal fringe). I also don't like when lolitas don't have lots of makeup to properly look doll-like, and I don't mean cakeface either. Just like, usage of proper eyeliners for different styles, eye shadow, skin whitening products (like BB creams), colour coordinated circle lenses with a black rim and enlargement enhancement, etc.
