I made my boyfriend a duskull outfit when I made my snorlax dress, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't want his picture on 4chan soo....

That wig and headpiece on the right are gorgeous, and I immediately knew what Pokemon she was. Good stylistic choices and effort are what make a gijnka for me. If you can tell what the Pokemon is supposed to be, and see those elements in the design, it's solid. But this goes above and beyond.

Not a regular /cgl/ here, but personally, sexy doesn't piss me off UNLESS I feel it takes away from the character they're trying to personify. Panty and/or Stocking, for example, its pretty much expected to show a bit of skin and figure since that is a big component of who they are. On the other hand, trying to make a sexy version of Thor, for example, just comes off as slutty in most cases since Thor's character is one that is supposed to be exceedingly tough and nordic.

This isn't to say you cant have females cosplaying as male characters, but when they go out of their way to make it more about the sex appeal than what the character actually is/stands for, it just seems like a waste.

Right, because the person who "adopted" (actually: purchased) the design now owns it, so it makes sense that they'd be the one you'd have to get into contact with. There are a lot of artists who do adopts who explicitly say the purchaser only purchases the right to use the design, not the actual ownership of it, so the fact that she does that for her customers is pretty nice from a customer point of view.

In this case just cosplay it anyway and give credit to both the artist and the owner. You did your due diligence.

Fan art unfortunately gets posted without credit all the time. There's already several in this thread alone. She's got her name on those sheets, but someone could easily crop out the individual adoptables and re-post them. Then someone sees them, likes the design, decides to cosplay it, and then what?

There's not much they can do if someone does happen to cosplay. I'm curious to see if she'd really pitch a fit about them not asking or if she'd just make sure they credited her and shrug it off. Unfortunately I've seen way too many fan-artists fly off in an autistic rage over stuff like this even when credit is given.

She's being possessive of her original designs that are loosely based on Pokemon. A lot of the gijinka in this thread, hers included, have clearly got a lot of design cues that set them apart from just being fanart (which is a big reason why they're so desirable to cosplay, they're interesting beyond just "Pokemon fanart").

You're talking about a hypothetical situation that isn't currently relevant. I'm saying "you know she wants to be asked permission, stop pitching a fit about the wording used and just ask permission if you want to cosplay it."

So just giving my 2 cents as someone who makes and sells adoptables;

The issue is that not all buyers are that kind and willing to let you cosplay. The artist doesn't want to get anyone on their asses because they weren't clear enough about the idea that someone should ask permission.

The thing is, most people buy adoptables to use as OCs. Not all of those people want to see their OCs being cosplayed.

I've done pokemon gijinka designs before, some that got some decent exposure and even a person or two asking if they could cosplay it. It's fine by me but I very much appreciate it when people ask me first. It makes me feel like they respect the artist behind the design, rather then 'I saw this when I googled x gijinka, no idea who made it lol".

Also Blue's designs can go for quite some money so if I bought one I'd want people to ask before they'd cosplay too.

No, I'm simply pointing out that in the age of "repost everything everywhere" it's really, really hard to keep a leash on your fan-works and because they're fan-works, unless the exact image is ripped and sold or used for commercial purposes, there's nothing you can really do when someone uses it for cosplay or anything else that doesn't entail them profiting or getting credit for your work.

I'm not going to re-iterate the same point over and over. I'm not a Pokemon fan so I have no desire to use her work.

When creating a pokemon gijinka design, my pet peeve are those that are basically just clothes.
Great rule for making unique designs is to create the gijinka so that when the character takes their clothes off, they could still be recognized e.g tail, coloured skin, ears, markings...

On an unrelated note to that, I think gijinkas are better off without ears and tails except in certain cases (like that cute eevee). I mean, the characters have been humanized, why are they running around with cat ears and shit? Its nice to see those types of things incorporated into the design - like the sawsbuck turning the antlers into hair horns - something more realistic.
