Doesn't some character from bakemonogatari have a poached egg hair clip? That could've started it. But I've noticed a poached egg explosion in the Japanese foodie culture. Poached egg over garlic pork and rice is fucking good though.

I honestly think a lot of it is to do with the rise of the popularity of Korean fashion brands, combining that 'minimal aesthetic' and cuteness.

Theres something simply wonderful about eggs, the way that illustrated ones are imperfectly perfect. Just a gold circle and a white blob and its perfect no matter what
