Still working on this.
The print is silver.
It will be for an event in late fall.
I am unsure about the shoes and leg wear, mostly. Does anyone have any recommendations for flat footwear that would work? It has to be flat due to an injury.
Would solid black tights be ok? I was thinking maybe solid black tights and the ballet-like ribbons that come with these shoes may work, kind of like the ribbon moitie socks that I will never get my hands on?
Should I work more silver into this so it is more balanced?

I'm kind of wondering about accessories... maybe a silver teacup ring? I'm also wondering what blouse to use and if a bolero may look better with the thin JSK straps...
I'll also be replacing the bow on the JSK with a better quality silver bow

Assume everything that looks whiteish in this image is white.
Since there are so many shades of red in the dress, I thought it would be cool to start with the lightest shade of it at the top and darken to the wine color of the shoes, but idk.

I feel like with a lighter wig you should go with lighter colored shoes. they kind of clash with the lighter colored accessories.

>>8438529
If your going with the long sleeve bolero and you plan to wear it the whole time i'd lose the bracelet, you won't be able to see all the details on it. just go with simple silver charm bracelet maybe.
Add silver cross hairclip next to the hair piece.
And since the dress is so long i think plan black tights would be fine.

>pic related.
I wanna make a pie beret, but I also have the matching hair accessory that I cut off the band and put a multi clip on, so i don't know if that's too much pie on my head or not.
Also thinking about wearing a red underskirt too try and minimize the pink on the bottom band.
Or should I embrace the pink, and make a pink pie beret? (not, I hate the color pink)

>> No.8438615

Yeah, it's seeming like that, and the beret even might not match well depending on how they look in person. I might try to find a classy looking brown bag and a better matching beret irl as well.

Also open to other headwear suggestions. The bow that came with the set was just atrocious.

Bag needs to go - I'm not sure if it was brought up in the last thread. Do you have any accessories? the collar area seems a little empty, a strawberry pin there would help.
Coord 1 - The hat seems too light, have you got a darker one? You can probably balance it out with a cute, light straw bag. It would be cute to place some strawberries/red bows on the hat to tie it together with the dress.
Coord 2 - Swap bag for a cute, red bag, either strawberry themed or non themed (assuming your headbow is red), you may also want to swap the shoes out for red shoes. Socks are ok, personally I do like printed socks/tights that goes with the theme but it doesn't really matter that much.
Overall, it's a pretty cute and simple coord.

I posted just as the thread saged so I didn't actually get any responses, I chose the bag because there's actually biscuits in the print (pic related). Unfortunately the hat is the only one I have.

I am hunting for a red bag and some strawberry otks, the issue I'm having with socks is that all the ones I've found so far are super sweet. I will be ordering some strawberry charms now, thanks for the suggestion!

I didn't realise there were biscuits on the print! How cute.
To work in a biscuit theme, you definitely want to bring in more accessories, maybe a biscuit brooch? At first sight the dress seems overwhelmingly strawberries and florals, therefore a biscuit bag will seem a little off, unless a general cohesive theme is established with more accessories/components.
You may also want to add brown ribbons to the hat to tie in with the darker browns? However, that's definitely a nitpick.

Although the bolero is fine, I'm not sure if it would be the most flattering option for the dress, what with the puffed sleeves of the OP. Also it would probably sit bellow the high waist of the dress, which isn't ideal either in my opinion. Since it's a sleeved OP, I really don't think it needs a bolero, if you still want to cover your arms I actually think a simple, elegant high-necked blouse underneath would actually look better (as long as it fitted snugly on the arms with no billowing fabric and tight cuffs). Some quality long gloves are another option. Think how Mana wears short sleeved OPs pretty much.

The rest seems perfectly fitting to me. Although I agree with the other anon that an additional flash of silver along with the head-wear would look particularly nice with your silver shoe choice.

>> No.8439474

>>8438615
I don't think the beret is quite right tbh either and I'm not as fastidiously 'matchy matchy' when it comes to colors as some other posters on here. I think it's more that the bag and beret appear in the images to be slightly warm and salmony whereas the pink in the print is icey and cool, with the additional pinks in the flowers etc also being very cool, almost variations (paler and deeper) shades of cerise pink or possibly raspberry pink-red (if going by the stock photo rather than the up-close swatch).

I'm fine with mixing colors that would be on the same color scale, ie lighter or darker variations of the same hue but I'm not sure the bag and beret would even follow that particular guideline.

I agree that headwear in the correct pink would look great but it's still nice as you have it now - since a beret is relatively inexpensive you could always wait until you have the jsk in your hands before making further purchases or find better stock references for matching the pink.

In the meantime for a quick fix, you could always buy some ribbon in what you believe to be the correct pink (get two colors if you're unsure) to go alongside the beret for that 'pop' of color. That could tide you over until you buy additional items at greater expense. You can use the ribbon to make a simple bow hair-slide/comb or something similar.

Not a perfect solution but just a thought.

try styling it in a more classic way and pair with white lace tights or frill ankle socks and shoes with a heel, a hat or floral headwear, keep the theme only in the form of say, a fairly elegant gold necklace that sits above the jsk neckline.

Another option is to keep things fairly simple, again, mostly ignore the theme and stick with lolita design neutrals (bows, non-theme bags, socks etc) such as pic related.

I'm really not of the school of thought where everything should be 'on theme' with the print, it's fun to do that but there are other options that look good. The only thing that can look jarring in my opinion, is if you bring in another completely unrelated, quirky accessory into the mix out of nowhere.

I think as it stands, because there's only a couple of red things in the pic that it kinda looks like you couldn't find things that quite matched. I think to fix that I would lace the boots with ribbons the same shade as the hair roses. Overall it's really cute, and the only changes I would suggest are to make it more 'everyday' - ribbons and looped braids as a hairstyle, and lace tights rather than socks.

>>8438529
I agree with all the other anons about the bolero - it creates a huge chunk of black on top and may not quite sit right. I would consider wearing it open, and also a brighter silver choker or church-themed brooch. More silver up top would be good as the silver is all concentrated at the bottom and the shoes may look a bit random. Plain black tights are ok if there's nothing else, but if you can find some with subtle silver dots they may look nicer in person (although probably won't photograph as well)

>>8438577
I'm not sure that bodyline silver matches - perhaps consider grey rather than silver shoes?
In terms of a blouse, I think a lower neckline would be better, and something nice and floaty like a chiffon.
Teacup jewellery sounds awesome - have you thought about headwear as well? Personally I like the idea of an updo with a small silver tea set in it, but that could be a bit matchy for you. If you want to extend the theme to 'tea and cake' maybe that could be reflected in the second colour you choose and also your accessories.

>>8438611
There can never be too much pie. Ignore the unfortunate pink band, find the Betsey Johnson pie bag, and see if you can find diamond/criss cross patterned tights in the same colour as your blouse.

>>8439381
Bag looks a bit random because the print biscuits are a different colour - a dark brown satchel is better, or a bag looking like a Jammy Dodger. I like the headbow more. I don't like the jewellery >>8439416 as the strawberry ring looks too bright, the necklace too dark. Maybe not this necklace though.

Thoughts on shiro coords with dark hair?

I have a convention coming up next week and I am dying to wear a 100% white old school look. However, I don't own wigs and my hair is very dark (the kind that only looks brown in sunlight). I think that if nicely styled it shouldn't look bad, but most of the shiro coords I've seen lately go for blond or lighter hair in general, so I'm worried about the contrast. I take good care of my hair, at the moment it's a bit less than hipbone length, thick and wavy in texture (think Lockshop's Bohemian but shorter), with full straight bangs and side pieces.

> mfw I don't even wear sweet

I think I see the idea behind tis coord, but I think the color balance is a bit off. The bolero seems to cover up most of the bodice and then you have another solid block of red underneath with the tights, leaving all the print condensed around the skirt, it's like a sandwich. Even the headbow acts as the little olive they put on top sometimes.

My first attempt with this would be, ditch the solid tights as they will be the easier of the two reds to replace. I'd go for a white or light pink (less saturated than the dress') with red detailing, such as crisscross ribbons or maybe polka dots, to match the kitchenware on the bottom. The shoes don't look too bad but rather than gold I'd pick a light brown like the one in the print. Also, what are your thoughts on bags, Anon? I think like this could look very pretty with one of those rectangular biscuit bags, it would look very cute.

I'd say both can work! I really really like OTKs when they finish right at the hem of the skirt, plus they're pretty easy to find with the designs I mentioned woven in. However, sheer tights and ankle socks are something that is much more wearable in the summer, so you could really go either way depending on the weather. Pink or shiny black shoes (I imagine the pink would be hard to match). Silver star accessories (earrings, etc).
Actually, you could play up the silver with silver shoes and a silver star bag so long as you balanced it!
For hair, a big black bow with some smaller pin bows (you could find at accessory shops probably) clipped around, or some pink ribbon around twintails. Maybe some silver star pins too. I can't imagine it would be too hard to make something.

That looks quite nice, the shoes are a bit dark but the match the deer in the centre so all good. Another possibility for that dress that would be challenging but possibly look awesome would be to coord it with a pale olive green blouse like the trees of the print. That'd be hard to find but would look amazing, I think.

>>8438577
A dusty blue bolero or cropped jacket would look great, IMO, but as the other anon said the shoes don't look like they match too well, though that could just be dodgy BL stock photos at work.

>>8438615
If the beret doesn't work floral hair accessories in pink and white to match the print would be good.

>>8438611
I think a red underskirt would look strange coming from under that pink band, just ignore it as the other anon suggested. Also, totally go for the pie beret.

>>8440212
Pull out the pink or the red from the print, or it could possibly work with mint too.

Sorry, I don't think this is really working. The blouse isn't really lolita, for one. The floral headdress (whilst beautiful) is too ethereal for the dress, which is more oldschool. I'm not really a fan of the tights but they could look all right in a heavier blocked/ more wintery coord since they match the bows.

At its most basic, start by getting a white lolita bouse (large peter pan collar, for example). Work from there. White toned tights/ socks and navy shoes. Navy bow, maybe get a navy beret for a different look, and pair with a cardigan. You could introduce red as it is complementary; red shoes and cardigan, red bow pinned to a navy beret.

About the blouse, I know it's not lolita but I'm a poorfag and can't afford a better blouse for now. I try to get back to lolita after many years. Kind of hard TBH.
About the floral crown, I know it's not the best choice but I wanted to emphasize the white roses embroderies of the pockets.

>>8445869
I want to wear an underskirt because I'm tall and don't like to show my knees. Also I'm not that young anymore. I personnaly think short skirts are for younger gurls.

If you're going to wear an underskirt wear one with pretty lace at the bottom. I don't think the one you've chosen works with the dress. Otherwise I'd go with the right row of socks and accessories and wear a regular peter pan collar blouse.

You could try opaque white tights if it bothers you, but I'm a tallfag too and I've given up caring about knees showing. It's not even a real 'rule'.
I do think adding a secondary colour like red could be cute.
You can get blouses really cheap second hand on auctions btw, or even on japanese sites like maiden clothing (like $20-40). I even bought an IW blouse from a western girl for $35. It's definitely worth investing in more than anything when you get the chance.
I didn't notice the roses on the pockets from the picture tbh, but it still feels a bit too modern for it and the flowers appear more ivory.
Bodyline has some navy shoes. Dark red ones like shoes300 could also be cute with a red bag/ headbow/ cardi. White for a full on oldschool look & versatility if you want. Just go for normalfag/ vintage bags in a colour that matches your shoes, as long as they're reasonably feminine/ not ugly.

Mate invest in a proper blouse before an underskirt
literally nobody cares about some knees unless you're 6'5", they'll be on about the pointy collared blouse that will look awkward under the jsk. I mean I don't mean to be rude but your priorities aren't in order here.
If you're not planning on reselling you could hand-stitch some nice torchon lace onto the bottom of the dress for less price, or make some sort of underskirt yourself.

I know my vision of lolita may not follow the rules. I just want to feel confortable and pretty after a loooong period where I kind of forgot to take care of myself. Hiding my knees for example is a way to feel more confortable.

No, brown shoes go just fine with navy! Well I think they do, this was just an ideal scenario sort of thing. Get some comfy brown shoes you can use for a long time. Honestly I'd save up and invest in a decent pair. In reality you only really need a brown and black pair of shoes to match everything.
I like matching my bag and shoes, so a brown satchel type thing could work. Or white is pretty versatile too. Brown would help bring in the flowers as well.

I did a thing of various ideas made of basic/ versatile pieces that could pretty much all be offbrand/ handmade if you want to work on more stuff some time.

You might be able to get the blouse collar to sit under the jsk, but I do agree a bolero is a safer option.

I'm more bothered by what I see as a mix of peach bows on the dress with pastel pinks in the wristcuff and bag, and what seems to be bright pink in the socks. I hope the socks are just oversaturated and their real life colour is less bright. I would replace the peach bows with pastel pink ones, but maybe that's me being nipicky.

It's a pretty cute coord otherwise.

I personally think the pink is nicer. For jewellery, what about a small gold toned pendant with a deer like >>8438596 has, and a ring to match?

>>8448046
I really don't like it, sorry, because I think the peachy pink and the bluer-toned pastel pinks are going to clash horribly - the print on the dress appears like it has very peachy pinks in the print as well as the background which really doesn't go with the other pinks, the blouse will sit awkwardly and the outfit will look unbalanced. The idea is really cute but just needs tweaking. I would keep the shoes and headbow, lose the wrist cuffs, socks, and bag go for a bolero over the dress in the same colour as the blouse, or if it's really hot rock the sundress/bare arms thing with a parasol (bridal shops are excellent for white/cream/beige parasols!) If you're rocking a summer look, short lace-topped ankle socks are considered acceptable and ideally would either match the beige-pink dress background colour or the shoes.
Sweets jewellery is very easy to find and can pick up the motifs in the dress - maybe the sax blue in the icecreams etc. would be a nicer third colour to use for your accessories, like rings/bracelet/necklace and then you can get cute icecream sundaes etc. Bag would be best as one of the two main colours, so your beigey pink again or the white.

>>8448196
Oof those black shoes are kinda hideous. Since you've got a lot going on at the neckline and wrists maybe just some nice silver-with-dress-coloured-gems bracelets that poke out from the sleeves, and ring to match. Also - mother-of-pearl on silver cameos could be nice.

As for the coord, I think it would be nice to use a lace/knit black legwear with gothic black shoes, since there's a lot of purple on the bottom. Using sheer-er black lace tights might help break up the heavy patterns.
I'd also use one of those fluffy moitie blouses in black.Even though it seems like a lot of black, the dress has so much purple that the black seems like the accent.

So I'm making a coord with the mermaid princess skirt I have. It's not a finished collage yet but I'd like some direction on what pieces I should look for. I'll be on the search for a pink blouse with short sleeves for my first coord with this skirt (I really like the wristcuffs with the seashells to not go ahead with this).

About the rest of the accessories though, which should I use or which should I not bother buying? For the shell hairclip, pink would work best right? At the bottom right, there's a crown I played around with and added pearls. Should I try using it for a more OTT coord or nah?

The two shoes at the bottom are in my wardrobe already. Which works best? (Sorry I'm not interested in buying new ones unless absolutely necessary).

And lastly, I'm stuck on legwear. I can use basic lace white tights with the coord, and I haven't found any other interesting legwear I could use, so I decided to try getting the matching OTKs. Should I get pink or offwhite? I'm not sure on either because the pinks look bright compared to the dusty pink of the skirt, but the offwhite may look off/be too creamy.

Sorry for all of this, I'm an indecisive person and I'd appreciate any input. Once I have a color scheme/direction to go in, I think I can work towards finishing this coord. Thank you again for any help I receive!

Cream sounds nice with dusty pink. If the pink of your shoes matches the skirt or blouse, go with them, if not gold is going to be better and can be picked up with a gold seashell bag. You need a pair of wine shoes to balance more coords with that bolero.
Also, get a brown bolero or blouse, brown and black together look horrible. Same with the chunky offwhite shoes in the ivory and lavender coord.
That fan bag is weird and WAY too bright for what you're doing.
If you're going to stay with an elegant IW-type style, get cream and ivory, rarely white. You seem to have a lot of different colors, here, which can be hard to coord. For buying, I would choose two or three colors (wine, brown, and ivory, from what you have here) and build from there.
The bottom coord is nice, if you have a brown purse that matches your oxfords.

Ok, it would really help if you had better lighting so I could see the colours properly but here goes:
Top left - the bag looks too sweet for an otherwise classic outfit. Which socks are you using? I can't tell if the dark pair are maroon or brown, and the light ones look like they could be too light as the whole top half of your outfit is very dark. Have you balanced the maroon in the bottom half at all?

The top right I like the feel of, but again it's a bit odd. The beret is fluffy and wintry and seems too heavy for a summery outfit, the shoes are weirdly sweet and seem quite a bright white.

Bottom left - ditch the fan bag and wear the shoes from top right

Centre bottom is just...too many colours, clashing styles and motifs. I'm sorry if you really like that heart bag but it isn't working with those outfits because you're styling the dresses in such a classic way in general

Really need some advice for making this outfit better. Pic is of the first time I wore the dress. I know the outfit needs improvement somehow but I've been struggling with the accessories. I was thinking of swapping the red beret for the black alice one, adding a relevant black bag, and the black shoes instead of the navy ones to bring out the black in the collar. But is that still too simple? I don't really do OTT, I like the casual lolita/otome style. Would the outfit be lacking without more accessories? If so, what kind? Would I be better keeping the red beret and going for red or navy shoes instead? Is the bag ok? And I found some lovely alice themed tights, but would they look too busy next to the dress print? Would a different wig suit the style better? All advice appreciated

I actually think this is pretty great, love the headdress choice. I don't think the shoes are going to work though, they're a much paler, almost beige-gold compared to your bag, socks and headdress. I know the jsk features different gold tones, but for the main accessories, unless they too contain multiple gold tones, you should stick to the same tone.

I think the blouse will work but you could go for something even more flowy I think, with a more obvious princess style sleeve. I also think off white would be a nice choice too. Because of the print you could probably make off-white or a more ivory/cream work.

I've seen that dress in person and it's not yellowy at all. Pic is from Elegy's lookbook.

That's assuming you're referring to the dress in your pic. If not, then yeah. Lacy socks or lace patterned tights are safe lolita staples IMO. Though make sure to be mindful of your legs. Ankle length socks aren't flattering on everyone.

First coord help! This is my first dress purchase and i'm trying to create a decent cord that is not OTT. Looking for suggestions for a bag, hair accessories and jewellery and possibly different tights/OTKs. Also just general concrit, want to make a nice first coord! Thanks gulls.

I like the coord, but I would coord it with white lace socks/tights instead. I'd also go for the pearl necklace instead of the cat one. Try to get some matching pearl bracelets and earrings, a classic hat à la Victorian Maiden or Triple Fortune, and it will be the most classy Cadre du Chat coord ever. Seriously though, I'd avoid going too much for a cat theme with this dress, it has been done a million times with this dress already, it would be so much nicer if the dress would just be coorded in a classic way without the million cat accessoires.

And a classic Loris bag like this one:

Ah anon you have been soooo helpful! I feel so much better that I seem to be on the right track and not a complete mess. I am for sure trying to go for a simple classic look and want to avoid doing overdone things so I will stay away from cat accents. Mainly i inculded that necklace to play off of the filigree in the dress and pick up a hint of bue in the bows on the cats. But I for sure think pearls are the way to go! I love your idea of pearl earrings also and simple pearl accessories throughout.

Pic related- What do you think of the tights? I like your idea of going with white but I was thinking of have tights that have a slight hint of gold to play of the gold in the dress and the ornate details? Also included is my dream AP bag I thought would go well with this coord cause of the pearl details that can play off the jewellery. Thought I really like that Loris one you linked and I have already balled out on the rest of the brand that it may be the more sensible route to go! Again thank you so much!

Be carefule anon, wearing bodyline waistbows on your head looks really stupid, unless you're actually going to deconstruct the bow and remake it first.
I'm not a fan of the cheap lace on the lacecuffs and you would do good to introduce a small pink accessory onto the bodice area of the dress, but otherwise it's alright for a first coord.

Today's my best friend's birthday and mine is coming at the end of the month, and we are trying to meet up and twin in pic related. This is what we have in our wardrobes so far, it's mostly a full set but we just completed it and want to try it out. The main concerns are the shoes (the tea party style are a shade darker than the boots) and bags. Green is considering white and Ivory is considering black.

In terms of hair, we have the same shade (dark brown) but green has a long bob and ivory's hip length. Should green go for a long blond wig for contrast or should ivory put it up so it looks visually shorter?

I think that blouse is a perfect choice because it looks just like the curtains on the print. I cant see very closely, but does the print also have pearls with a crystal teardrop right above the curtain? Perhaps you could make a necklace with that design. I think a beret is too casual for that blouse, since the blouse is more princessy while the beret is simply lady-like. If this coord is for the colder months, a white furry capelet would be really cute with it, and then I think thats when the beret would match, because it seems more chilly, and a princess could wear a hat when its chilly, no?

So I just purchased Bodyline Bear Ballon Dress and I don't wanna end up looking like an ita. Tbh, I hate the "matching" socks and tote bad (I bought it second hand).

I plan on using plain white thigh highs and black penny loafers. However, I need some advice on some headwear.

Is there any other headbow I can match this up with?

The blouses look virtually the same other than the sleeves. I think the mm one is only favorable because of the brown bow, but I think it would be better to choose one best suited for the weather in your area, or even better get both.
>>8487925
I saw a coord that used a peter pan collar shirt under this dress and it was cute as fuck and looked very intentional. I'd say look for some new socks first. If you're looking to go for the white blouse, I'd go for some that are white with black accents on the side like pic related (not music notes obviously but something) to balance the white. Or if you're not wearing the blouse, you could try to use black socks with white accents (which are more common). They're like $5-$20 and totally versatile.
I think cutting up the tote for a headbow is a great idea if you're going for an AP-style sweet look, but if you are, penny loafers won't cut it. You need some tea parties or at least recognizable "lolita" shoes. If you're looking for more of a cute grandma style, the penny loafers would be cute with a black beret with some coordinating pins, or an updo with a bulky headband or a few small bows clipped in.
Just remember that if you use a color on the bottom half of your coord, you need to use that color on the top half of the coord too. Esp white.

I think you're better off doing a piratey look with a solid colored dress or skirt, there's almost no way to make that print look nautical. Even if you don't have one, it's not like you can't get a decent on for <$60 and have a lot of uses for it. Probably be a better investment than that bag. I second the tejawhatever tights, probably in black, and a solid colored skirt in like a green, blue, or maybe even ivory, and it would fit the rest of the coord just fine.
>>8487193
I agree with everything the other anon said. If you're crafty, I think it would be fun to make a matching headdress with cat ears and curtain-y bits and jewels. Beware that neckline with the jsk, though, it might end up fitting weird.
It would also be cute to have a more casual outfit with the beret, using one of AP's older blouses like pic related, to give it more of a 2012 sweet lolita feel instead of a fancy hime feel. It would look more simple just coording it with white and lavender.

If you can find some jewellery that combines green and burgundy too it would be a lovely touch and add interest.
