NOOOOOOOOOOO. As someone with both D cup boobs and a general style that's migrated away from true lolita, this is an epic disappointment. I desperately wanted this as a skirt for more otome-ish coordinates and a more flattering fit.

Hope this is more relevant here than in the help thread. I have a big meet in about two weeks and I want to wear this new JSK, I'm going for a dark classic look, it's floral on black.
I don't have a blouse that matches currently, but the JSK has a bib and a Peter Pan collar so I think it'd look good with a shawl maybe, or some sort of bolero or cardigan?
Anyway, my point is where should I look for something that won't make my wallet cry and isn't too normie? Have you guys had more luck with stuff like this in vintage boutiques or something similar? I have coorded with outwear yet and I'm scared to fuck up. I'd order online but I need it to get here in time.
Apologies for complete newb

In situations like this I sketch out ideas of what could look nice, like draw the jsk+ bolero and jsk+shawl to get a basic idea, and then I start to hit thrift and vintage stores. I live in a big city, though, so finding classic-suitable blouses, shawls and cardigans is much easier for me than it is most places. True vintage shops rather than goodwill-style thrift stores might be your quickest, safest bet.

I want to jump in on this topic of buying vintage blouses.

I'm in Portland and would like to know if there are other Portland anons here who could tell me a bit about their experiences with thrift stores here?

I've only been to a couple but because of the popularity of thrifting here, both of the ones I went to had pretty high prices. I'm okay with this as I feel like I'd be okay with paying for the rest of my outfit to get it in time for a meet or a con.
But it'd be better if I could find slightly cheaper places. Last time I spent like $200 at a thrift store down town here.

I've been wondering, how realistic is it for a beginner to be able to pull off two different styles? I'm in love with those beautiful gothic/classic-gothic(?) prints and dresses like pic related, but I already have quite a bit of sweet going on in my wardrobe which would make it much easier to coordinate new pieces (and it's also a style that's really fun and I really enjoy). I just sometimes would like to wear something darker and more sophisticated, elegant looking, but it feels like at this point it would be too hard to delve into another sub-style.

I was lamenting with my friend over the lack of skirt the site has updated. I could rationalize being the skirt for the price and the fact that I could probably fit that way sooner then the jsks and I am in love with the darn print in every color way. It's annoying because I swear every other print Meta has done this year had two jsks, at least one OP, and a skirt but no the print I want the most they had to skimp out on. I swear I keep calling Meta the "Alcoholic Aunt of Lolita", and just like my real alcoholic aunt, meta has disappointed me.

maybe you should start from scratch, anon. Considering you are still new it shouldn't be that hard.
>decide if you want to build your wardrobe around a warmer colour palette (reds, greens, browns, saturated colors) or on a colder color palette (blues, pastels, desaturated colors)
>decide on 1 or 2 colors within your chosen color palette
>around these colours you will focus your main pieces
>buy blouses, shoes and bags in a common and basic style, suitable for gothic and sweet and which suit your color palette.
>craft your own accessories, simple head bows or fabric flower headpieces are easy to DIY
>if you got all the basics you can start to buy frilly boleros, parasols, outer wear and more specific items for each style, sweet and gothic
>toss the few pieces that don't match your new color palette and replace them with new matching items
>now that you accomplished a basic wardrobe you can think about adding a new color to your color palette or pieces that require unique styling

I have no idea if she does anything at Connecticon tea party wise, I've never gone to that con. Quite, especially if you're very selective about coordinating pieces like blouses and shoes. If yo're predominantly sweet, but want a couple of darker outfits, you really only need one black blouse, one pair of black shoes and 2-3 each of legwear and hair accessories to be able to go with a lot of gothic and dark classic pieces, and you could get that for under $200. Basically, if it's only going to be a sometimes thing there's no need to get too much stuff so it's really quite simple then if you find you like wearing the darker stuff you can build on that already solid base.

1. wait until you are in the airconditioned con center to put on a wig. It's fine if you look a little derpy outside, the important part is being comfortable and not overheating
2. have little spray mist bottles or fans. You might feel dumb using them but they're a real relief in hot weather
3. use a parasol or umbrella, the less sun hitting your head, the less hot you'll feel
4. bring the bag the wig came in if you really need to rip it off at some point, on that note bring a comb, extra pins etc

Anyways, it's pretty nice. Has good buttons and lace. Fabric quality is meh... I got it to make a quick sailor lolita coord for a water war event so I was looking for a dress I wouldn't mind ruining but the fabric is polyester so I doubt that the water will ruin it. Will be hell to wear in the hear though.

Is it wrong of me to want her to tone it down before joining the comm? I have no issue with people being sexual, but I'm afraid of her being ripped apart by some people in our local comm or even here. Some of them have not been too nice about it, so this is the basis for my worrying.

I just think what makes a lolita popular and a cosfamous type popular are two entirely different things. I just don't want to see her do a sexual approach to lolita. Her current cosplay style is doing uncomfortable sexy shots in con bedrooms. I don't think that'd translate well into lolita.

A very hard box in my check-in luggage. Make sure it's hard enough to withstand being knocked or kicked around. Put the bonnet inside, then stuff a few small, soft things around it -- your undies, socks, camisoles, blouses, hankerchiefs, overskirts, detachable sleeves, as long as it's soft and rolls up small, use it to pad out the empty space around bonnet so the bonnet itself has no space to move around in the box. You can scrunch up cooking foil to cover the flowers if you're worried about a stray sock hitting them and squishing them, usually padding the areas of the bonet without flowers should be enough to keep the bonnet stationery though.

Then tie the box up extra securely to make sure it doesn't open during transit, put it in your luggage.

It's only shitty and annoying if you have no idea what the fuck you're doing and try to put something together yourself. That chick on CoF just had no idea about either Indian or Chinese dress and just put something together that looked like shit. I also think 'inspired' is different from 'actual' - if you are worried about getting backlash if you tried to wear a real kimono and make a coord out of that (like that french girl that people always post as a good example of wa-lolita) this should be fine since, again, it's not a real kimono and it was something again, created by people from that culture and something that they specifically designed for a modern-day look (as opposed to someone from outside the culture splicing up a kimono to make it cute and having no idea what they're doing and just fucking it up)

A seller sold me a "Mary Magdalene" rose hair accessory and I just noticed that they actually had Victorian Maiden's Garland Corsage (S), which is extremely similar to Mary Magdalene's Rose Garland. I have already paid but the item hasn't been shipped out yet. I can see how the seller got the two confused since they look very similar (and I didn't check closely until just now) and the hair accessories are too small to have the brand label on the back side.

What's the best course of action to take now? I personally like MM more than VM, which is a part of reason how the item was found and bought in the first place. Should I inform the seller of the mistake in identification?
