larme kei is the type of fashion that pops up in larme magazine. it tends to be pretty girly and delicate, looks like himekaji because it has a lot of himekaji brands but it lacks the elaborate hair and make up.

well, it follows the trends that the larme magazine puts out, so it can be quirky. like, there's been more focus on red and black recently, which isn't himekaji at all.

it's still a baby compared to other styles, so as it evolves it should make more sense... i hope

Larme is not like himekaji. The have a few similarities but the looks are way different. Some brands can be used for both but it really depends how you style it.

Fairy kei can definitely get a little crazy, but if you look at the fairy kei general you'll see more toned down styles. Larme kei is pretty toned down and you can get away with sticking to pastels too.

It really depends on the silhouette you like.

Honestly, I think Larme kei should be considered the actual neo gyaru, it uses a lot gyaru elements but in a more accessible and toned down way while still retaining the quirkiness. Actual neo gyaru just looks like normie clothes with purple/silver hair.

Larme kei is really just cute clothes. The style is meant to be open to interpretation as to allow it to evolve with street trends. Larme kei can be himekaji, otome, lolita, etc. so long as it has the feeling of "larme", which is a dolly type of feeling with lots of frills and delicate girliness.
The reason why there is so much variety in here is because larme is based on just street trends. So long as something is trendy, it can be fit into larme through some way. That allows larme to have a large audience, since it's so open to interpretation.

> non of these would be called larme-kei if not worn by an Asian
Sadly accurate. Larme has a lot of basics outfits, which are basically HM and F21 styled items, which ironically are sometimes influenced by other jfashions. Because it has a lot of basic cuts and few defining prints, it's very easy to confine it to a certain type of wearer as an attempt to define the style.

There's a video where she is interviewed.
It's not translated but they both say it several times as she describes the styling and what it is.
Guess someone should subtitle it but I'm too lazy and I like to watch people mispronounce stuff and fumble around with their tentative (and incorrect) descriptions.
Want to know what the fashion is?
It's a marketing pitch between the publisher and these brands featured (advertised) in the magazine.
Is it cute? Yep.
Will it change as the magazine advertisers change? Yep.
Is it related to Nabokov's Lolita? Yep.
Want to style it? Read the magazine, it's cheap enough.
Good luck with that sizing though, these brands size closer to gyaru than lolita, as you'll find out.

I'm your exact height and age and wear himekaji and am adding some more larme looks to my current wardrobe.

Don't listen to the other anon, you can totally pull it off. Just remember the makeup styling really makes a lot of difference. Doesn't have to be anything but special, just make sure it looks fresh and youthful. I would suggest NOT going by most Western tutorials since they over emphasize contouring which just makes you look more mature (at least the way I've seen most makeup gurus do it). There's usually a makeup thread on here with Japanese magazine tutorials, just pick any of those.

Im gonna have to disagree with you guys about this. Ive looked through F21, h&m, and some other western brands several times in the past couple months and havent found very much that gives a larme kei feel.
Right now the 70s, minimalism, and boho are trending in the west so you're not gonna find alot of sweet girly stuff right now. Also silhouettes are either really tight or really loose. Larme style clothing also has little details you wont find over here, such as ruffles, bows, cutesy prints, etc.

Nabokov lolita is one element of Larme, but only the twee-est of tomboy elements worn in a winsome way.
More boobs were showing because the halter top is more bare, less Larme. The larger boobs should call for a bit more modest styling, if anything, to achieve the same look. OP photo has larger visible bust but the styling is very different.
Casual can still be 'polished'. I still maintain they are very different and Slums girl looks messy and does not represent a good Larme example in either picture.

I'll agree with you there, what I posted wasn't polished. It's from a movie, I don't think she was supposed to be. I just thought it looked similar, and that I'd post it here in case anyone was interested. But thanks

I'm not that photo poster but I think the western proportion/sizing is something that is going to be an issue we will have to successfully work around, not use as a critique. Most of us will not look like slender Japanese girls. But we can successfully wear Larme by compensating for some of the issues, by dressing for our body type and carefully watching fit, length and overall proportions. It's achievable.

I definitely think if you layered it over a frilly cutsew with sheer details, and play up the white/gray it could work. White thigh highs, and maybe those ginahm chunky sandals with cherries? Also the beret could be a lighter color, add bows, and hair needs to be styled poofier

>> No.8432926

Larme casuzl will still have detail, finished edges, makeup and styling that is put together but made to appear effortlessly casual. That's part of the charm. It's kind of like 'no makeup mskeup', having a full face on but appearing to not be made up much at all. What appear to be casually thrown together elements in Larme are actually a carefully balanced styling. That's part of the appeal. (And the challenge to do it well)

>>8433042
It's not really the fullness that's the problem, it's the length. I have really wide cheekbones but relatively close set eyes. It's not a kawaii combo with a full fringe. Thanks anyway though. I'm still gonna look 'cause Risa is kawaii af.

If it's somewhat sheer it will work. I've seen this cut of dress in Japanese magazines before, and they often layer a sheer top with puffy sleeves underneath to make it a little more modest. But yeah you can't put just anything underneath there has to be the right balance.
